        Hustak och kyrktorn i Genua.

Akvarell. Signerad och daterad: "W. v. Gegerfelt / Genua 1890". 31,5 × 18 cm. Vacker akvarell med välbevarade färger. Proveniens: Beijers klassiska vårauktion, 25-27 april 1990 (katalog 40), nr 374 (utrop 20,000 kr.) - [ENGLISH: Roof tops and a bell tower, Genoa / Genova. Original watercolour by Swedish artist and "plein-air" painter Wilhelm von Gegerfelt (1844-1920), dated "Genua 1890". Very fine.]

Scrapbook of a Hispanic Exotic Dancer and Member of Transvestite Hotcha Hinton's Dance Troupe

np, 1990. Folio, string bound album with photographs, fliers and other material cellotaped in onto 49 of the pages (the rest of the pages are blank). The scrapbook of an exotic dancer who was a member of the influential tranvestite performer Hotcha Hinton's crew of dancers under the name Tequila; other stage names seem to have been Maracalu and Maraca Low. Of special note are a generic printed christmas card from the legendary transvestite dancer Hotcha Hinton, as well as three handbills for performances by Hotcha Hinton and her girls. There are a number of 8 x 10 glossy b/w prints of Tequila, as well as photographs of unknown people, and a great drawing and collage made for Tequila on her birthday from "Ronnie and Bobo". A TLS from one "I. Torres" to "Miss Crabal" recommends Maracalu for an upcoming Stag Party and is dated 1958. The album also contains autographs from performers such as the actor Jorge Sareli, the Mexican singer and actor Charro (Francisco) Avitia, Kelo Henderson, Chucho Aguirre, Negrito Nicolas, and others. The album appears to have been assembled at a later date from materials from the 50's through the 90's. An important collection of material relating to a long career in exotic dancing, with rare documentation of an influential transvestive led dance troupe about which little documentation remains - we've only handled one flyer from the troupe prior to discovering this scrapbook. The condition of the materials in ranges from good to near fine, with some of the materials showing extensive creasing and chipping.

        Archive of British Rave Flyers

A large collection of approximately 750 assorted flyers and postcards from British raves and nightclubs, primarily from the 1990s, from a wide range of venues throughout the UK including but not limited to Ormonds, Club Loco, The Depot, Rascals Nightclub, The Combo Club, Electric Ballroom, Broadway Boulevard, Stringfellows, The Academy, Splash, Popham Airfield, the T2 Aircraft Hangar, Camden Island Market, the Tasco Warehouse, Lydd International Airport, Cinecitta, Tokyo Jo's, and many other nightclubs, abandoned factories, and farms throughout England, with information on themes, ticket prices, and featured artists or DJs, including Paul Oakenfold, Boy George, Jumpin Jack Frost, Carl Brown, The Prodigy, and Carl Cox. Illustrated, often with colorful graphics. Varying sizes. Contents loose, housed in two archival boxes. Various cities, various dates, circa 1990-1996 (many flyers undated). This archive was assembled by a British ravegoer, and provides a rare first-hand documentation of the vibrant rave culture which existed in the UK in the 1990s. Stemming from the Acid House movement in the late 1980s, these raves were large-scale dance events with electronic music, which often took place in unauthorized venues. Illicit drug use was also usually a featured component. As such, the specific location of many of these raves was often not communicated to partygoers until the last minute, to avoid being broken up by the police. As the scene grew in popularity, nightclubs became the primary venues, but the underground scene remained a vital presence.

        Billy Bathgate

London: Peters Fraser and Dunlop. 1990. Stoppard's "Revised First Draft" screenplay for the film based on Doctorow's novel, released in theaters in 1991, directed by Robert Benton and starring Dustin Hoffman, Bruce Willis, Loren Dean, and Nicole Kidman. Included is a Paramount Pictures internal memo from the year before, summarizing the novel and weighing the challenges of bringing it to the screen, and concluding, "Despite the difficulties here, if a way can be found to bring Billy's journey to the screen with even some of its force and vision intact, this could make a compelling, classy, big film." Paramount, however, ultimately passed on the idea: the film was released, with a Stoppard screenplay, by Touchstone Pictures. The memo is stapled once and folded once; near fine, laid into the screenplay, which is bradbound in plain blue cardstock covers with a small abrasion on the front and a wrinkled corner on the back; near fine. The title is written on the spine and foredge. An interesting look at Hollywood's take on a classic literary novel, and a look at an early version of the film: difficulties in adapting the material to the screen -- as suggested in the Paramount memo -- led to changes in the storyline that caused Doctorow to distance himself from the film, and presumably contributed to the film's relatively poor critical reception and commercial success. Uncommon. First Edition. No Binding. Near Fine.

        One Hundred Paintings

Livingston, Montana: Clark City Press, 1990. Hardcover. Very good/ . 25.5 x 27.5 cm, pp. 135. Signed and dated 1990 by Chatham on half title page, signed by Harrison, Waddington and Chatham on title page. Brown leather with gilt titling on upper board and spine, marbled endpapers. Includes two lithographs in front pocket: Winter I & II. Small (1/2 inch) scratch on upper board and slight corner wear is all that mars this otherwise fine copy. Publication coincided with Chatham's 30-year retrospective at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. This is the least common of three known editions (of uncertain order): one paperback, one numbered in linen with slipcase, and this one in leather. Preface by the late novelist and poet Jim Harrison is the first published appearance of that essay (Torrey and Orr). Other essays include "Reclaiming the Land" by Waddington, an arts writer and former director of the Steensland Gallery at St. Olaf College in Minnesota; and "Family, Art and Friends" by Chatham. Paintings are divided into California and Montana sections.

A.J.Casson and his wife Margaret chose 2 of their favourite Casson images of that year's work at the end of each year [thus thus called Casson's Cassons]. 2 volumes were created about 1989/1990 near the end of his life (died in 1992) each containing the identical 51 reproductions of these selected images. All were initialed by Mr. Casson and titled and identically numbered. These images were printed in editions of three hundred and some of Volume 1 & 2 (perhaps only 60 copies) were bound into a large coffee table book with full mahagony coloured leather binding and extensive text by Paul Duval. Each print was a plate in the book and had both a tissue in front of the print and cover page with a gold seal of Casson's head. Sadly, it seems many of these leather bound books were taken apart and the prints sold individually making the bound volume(s) quite rare now. 50 (of 51) signed and numbered lithographs, titles as follows: - White Pine - Old Mill Elora - Barns at Twelve Mile Lake - Whitney - Northern Barns - Lake of Two Rivers - Madawaska - Church of the St. Laurence O'Toole - Opeongo River - Cliffs Lake Maginaw - York River - Settler's Cabin - Fraser Bay - Still Morning - Palmer Rapids - Lumber Mill - Farm Near Vandorf - Lake Baptiste - McGarry Flats - Madawaska Valley - Long Lake - Bon Echo Rock - Lake Clarendon - Early Winter - Store in Bancroft - Whitefish Falls - Morning Light - Barns, McGarry Flats - Tiverton - Halfway Lake - Cloche Hills - Farm House - Near Quadrilla - Harvest Time - Old Barn - Conroy Marsh - Baptiste Lake - Combermere - Barry Bay - Old Maple - Kintail - Barn Near Quadrille - Lake Mazinaw - Boulter - Old Farm House - Frood Lake - Old Barn - Lake Willoughby - Barn on York River - Morning Mist - South Portage (missing) This book is on consignment with LDRB.

A New Song, A Common Life, A Light in The Window, These High Green Hills, Out to Canaan, In This Mountain, At Home In Mitford New York Times Best Sellers

About The Author:Born Janice Meredith Wilson in 1937, Jan Karon was raised on a farm near Lenoir, North Carolina. Jan knew at a very early age that she wanted to be a writer. She penned her first novel when she was 10 years old, the same year she won a short-story contest organized by the local high school. At 18, Jan began working as a receptionist for a Charlotte, N.C. advertising agency. She advanced in the company after leaving samples of her writing on the desk of her boss, who eventually noticed her talent. Jan went on to have a highly successful career in the field, winning awards for ad agencies from Charlotte to San Francisco. In time, she became a creative vice president at the high-profile McKinney & Silver. While there, she won the prestigious Stephen Kelly Award, with which the Magazine Publishers of America honor the year's best print campaign.During her years in advertising, Jan kept alive her childhood ambition to be an author. At the age of 50, she left her career in advertising and moved to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, to pursue that dream. After struggling—and failing—to get a novel underway, Jan awoke one night with a mental image of an Episcopal priest walking down a village street. She grew curious and started writing about a character she named Father Tim Kavanagh. Soon, Jan was publishing weekly installments about Father Tim in her local newspaper, The Blowing Rocket, which saw its circulation double as a result. "The installment plan certainly worked for Mr. Dickens", says Jan.The installments became Jan's first Mitford novel, At Home in Mitford. That book has since been reprinted more than eighty times and was nominated three times (1996, 1997, and 1998) for an ABBY (American Booksellers Book of the Year Award), which honors titles that bookstore owners most enjoy recommending to customers. A New Song won the Christy and Gold Medallion awards for outstanding contemporary fiction in 2000. A Common Life, In This Mountain, and Shepherd's Abiding have also won Gold Medallion awards. Since the publication of Out to Canaan, Jan's books have ridden high atop the New York Times bestseller list, frequently landing at #1.Jan has also published two Christmas-themed books based on the Mitford series, The Mitford Snowmen and Esther's Gift, as well as Jan Karon's Mitford Cookbook and Kitchen Reader. Other Mitford books include Patches of Godlight: A Compilation of Wit and Wisdomand A Continual Feast: Words of Comfort and Celebration. In addition, Jan has written two children's books, Miss Fannie's Hat andJeremy: The Tale of an Honest Bunny, and an illustrated book for all ages, The Trellis and the Seed. For readers interested in Cynthia's legendary cat books, Jan presents Violet Comes to Stay and Violet Goes to the Country.Jan says her character-driven work seeks to give readers a large, extended family to call their own.Jan's daughter, Candace Freeland, is a successful wedding photographer in Hawaii. You can see her work in the portrait of her mom on the back cover of Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good.Offered are 7 Books In Her Series.

        Manuscript and Correspondence Archive

[c. 1990s] - Writings by the noted mystery writer (and poet), who is, among many other things, the author of the story, and later the novel, that were the basis for the well-reviewed film Drive. The materials here belonged to Sallis' friend Robert Skinner, of Xavier University Library, himself also the author of a highly praised series of mystery novels. A notable association, made all the more so by the fact that both Sallis and Skinner have written mystery series that feature non-white protagonists -- Sallis an African-American, Lew Griffin; and Skinner a Creole, Wesley Farrell, who has been passing for white -- and they also each have written books on Chester Himes, the expatriate African-American mystery writer whose novels laid the foundation for mystery series featuring black detectives with his books that featured Harlem cops "Coffin" Ed Johnson and "Gravedigger" Jones. Sallis wrote a Himes biography and Skinner edited a book of interviews and compiled a bibliography. The Sallis archive includes: * the typescript (printout) of "George Pelecanos," which was published as the introduction to the 1999 St. Martin's paperback edition of Pelecanos' The Big Blowdown. With a few minor changes between this version and the published one. 4 pages. * the typescript (printout) of "Introduction," published in the 1994 Avalon paperback edition of Chester Himes's A Case of Rape. 7 pages. * the typescript (printout) of "Career Moves." 4 pages. Six vignettes about looking for work. Published in Potato Tree, 2007. * the typescript (printout) of "Day's Heat." Fiction. 20 pages (plus a blank, numbered 21st page), 4170 words. Published in Sallis' collection A City Equal to My Desire, 2000. * the typescript (printout) of "Uncles and Fireflies." An essay that pays tribute to his uncle; possibly unpublished. 4 pages. * the typescripts (printouts) of three poems, one page each: "Dawn in the Country's Still Heart," "Our Drive into the Country's Still Heart," and "Reading the World." * a typed letter signed to Robert Skinner, dated August 27, 1992. Touches on his own writing and on Skinner's work on Himes's unfinished novel Plan B (which Sallis calls Plan A). With mailing envelope. * a holiday invitation, 1993, hand-addressed; a signed birthday card, undated, with envelope; an autograph postcard signed, 1995, from New York; a signed holiday card, undated; a signed holiday card, with added sentiment, 1995, with envelope; a signed holiday card, 1997, with envelope. * a flyer announcing the publication party of Sallis' Black Hornet, a Lew Griffin novel; a flyer for a 1995 Sallis reading, which prints his poem "Art of Biography"; an unused promotional postcard featuring the cover art for Moth, another Lew Griffin novel; photocopy of a promotional flyer from No Exit Press, with mailing envelope; 3 promotional flyers from 1997; a 1999 printout of Iain Sinclair's review of Sallis' Eye of the Cricket, again a Lew Griffin novel, from Waterstones website. * approximately 75 pages of printouts of emails from Sallis to Skinner, May 1996 to October 1997 (plus one page from 1999), and one printed email signed, 2000, that Sallis had to mail when it kept bouncing back to him. With envelope. All items fine. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
