Zweiwochenschrift. Hrsg. von Hans Leybold (Nr. 5 hrsg. von Franz Jung). 1. Jahrg., Hefte 1-5. [Alles Erschienene.]

Gegen literaturbehaftete Oberlehrer, kunstsinnige Kritiker, allgemeine Rundschauer. In summa: Gegen Zuständliches. Und fügte hinzu:Nichtschriftsteller heraus! Keine Literaten sollen gezüchtet werden. Da hatte man die Revolution! Da war sie. 20 Jahre alt war der Kerl. Sehr hurtig. Und paffte einfach drauf los.? (Die weissen Blätter. Jahrg. 2, Heft 4. S. 525.) - Die fünf Nummern enthalten u.a. Beiträge von Hugo Ball, Johannes R. Becher, Ernst Blass, Franz Blei, Max Brod, Leonhard Frank, Iwan Goll, Walter Hasenclever, Emmy Hennings, Kurt Hiller, Jakob van Hoddis, Richard Huelsenbeck, Franz Jung, Klabund, Else Lasker-Schüler, Alfred Lichtenstein, Erich Mühsam, Robert Musil, Karl Otten, Ludwig Rubiner, René Schickele. Nr. 1 an Rücken u. Seitenkanten mit kleinen dezenten Restaurierungen u. Buchhandelsstempel, Umschlag von Nr. 1 u. Nr. 4 mit schwachen Notizen in Blei. Insgesamt gut erhaltene Folge der seltenen Reihe. - Raabe, Zeitschriften 16. - Raabe, Kat. Marbach 25.3. - Jentsch 11. - Dietzel/Hügel 2498. - Schlawe S. 14f. - Dada global S. 88. - Verkauf 181. - Akademie der Künste, Kat. 154, II 55. - Fähnders 34 u. 300. - Bolliger VI, 12.

Sennets & Tuckets: A Bernstein Celebration.

Boston: The Boston Symphony Orchestra in Collaboration with David R. Godine, 1988. First edition of this work on Leonard Bernstein. Octavo, original cloth, original slipcase, illustrated. Inscribed by Leonard Bernstein on the half-title page, "For Mrs. Maria Cole Best always LB." The recipient, Maria Cole, was a jazz singer who performed with Count Basie and Duke Ellington in the 1940s and who was married to Nat King Cole for 17 years until his death in 1965. Bernstein and Cole were friends since the 1940s, seeing one another at Tanglewood each summer, where they both had homes and Bernstein conducted. A nice association. Fine in a fine slipcase. Edited by Steven Ledbetter. With other essays by John Rockwell, Andrew L. Pincus, Larry Stempel, Paul Hume, Steven Ledbetter, Michael Tilson Thomas and by Leonard Bernstein. Leonard Bernstein's association with Tanglewood began in 1940 when he attended the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home as a conducting student. He conducted his final concerts at Tanglewood shortly before his death in 1990.

        The Satanic Verses

Viking 1988 - Salman Rushdie (1988) ‘The Satanic Verses’, UK first edition, first printing, published by Viking. Signed by Rushdie on the title page where he also added a dedication ‘To Tolerance’. A defying remark to the fatwa which resulted in years-long hiding; a bitter experience which Rushdie later wrote down in his autobiography ‘Joseph Anton’. Condition: very fine. The book is tight, no lean and unread, corners sharp. An unfaded dust jacket (exceptionally scarce to find as most specimen display fading on the spine) which is not price clipped. The best copy we have ever seen. Rushdie won the Booker Prize in 1981 for ‘Midnight’s Children’. ‘Satanic Verses’ was shortlisted for the prize. A landmark novel that led to the infamous fatwa forcing Rushdie into years-long hiding. Salman is a hot candidate for the Nobel. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Visions of Adelaide. A Folio of Five Lithographs - Personal Visions of the City by Five Adelaide Artists. Commissioned by the Adelaide City Coucil. The Artists: Yvonne Boag, Keith Cowlam, Barbara Hanrahan, Dee Jones, Hossein Valamanesh. The Printer: Robert Jones of The Beehive Press. Michael Llewellyn-Smith, City Manager. Steve Condous, Lord Mayor

Adelaide, Adelaide City Council, 1988. Elephant folio, [iv] (title leaf and a leaf of biographical details of the artists and printer), and the five coloured lithographs (all printed rectos only). A limited edition portfolio (number 52 of only 60 published), with each lithograph - 'Printed on Magnani paper, 310 gsm' - signed and numbered by the respective artist. Titles are (in order of artist) 'Parklands, North Adelaide', 'Adelaide', 'Springtime in the Botanic Gardens', 'Street Stall', and Untitled. These portfolios were not made available for sale, and in the intervening 25 years, only a few examples of just two of the prints have made it into the sales records. Trove indicates that the portfolio is held only by the National Library of Australia and the State Library of SA (and the short print run is not noted in their catalogue entries).
