Kaum ein anderes Werk dieser Gattung weist eine solche Fülle an Bilderschmuck auf. - Der Herzog von Berry: Mäzen und größter Kunstsammler seiner Zeit, geboren 1340, war der Herzog von Berry. Sohn, Bruder und Onkel von drei französischen Königen. Durch diese verwandtschaftlichen Beziehungen und auch als regierender Herzog über einen bedeutenden Teil der französischen Kernlande besaß er eine Stellung, die ihm einen Platz in nächster Nähe der großen Fürsten seiner Zeit einräumte. Die Welt des Herzogs von Berry war eine Welt voller Kriege, Aufruhr und Unruhen: Krieg mit England, das große Schisma der Christenheit und blutige innere Kämpfe in Frankreich. Auch der Herzog wurde immer wieder in die politischen Geschehnisse verwickelt, obwohl er selbst ganz andere Interessen hatte. Der Duc de Berry war schon in jungen Jahren ein Förderer begabter Künstler seiner Zeit. Er gab Anregungen und vergab Aufträge, stellte finanzielle Mittel zur Verfügung und war ein leidenschaftlicher Kunstsammler und der größte Bibliophile des Mittelalters. Der künstlerische Wert seiner Handschriftensammlung übertraf bei Weitem alles, was andere Fürstenhäuser zu jener Zeit ihr eigen nannten. Der Herzog verstarb am 15. Juni 1416 im Alter von 75 Jahren. - Generationenübergreifendes Meisterwerk: Um 1372 gab der Herzog von Berry die PetitesHeures in Auftrag. Schließlich sollten insgesamt fünf Buchmaler an ihrer Ausgestaltung beteiligt sein. Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Künstlern war damals nichts Außergewöhnliches; aber diese fünf Buchmaler erreichten ein Ergebnis, wie man es kaum in einer Bilderhandschrift jener Zeit sieht. Zunächst wurde der große Jean Le Noir mit der Ausführung betraut, der seit 1340 die Buchmalerei in Frankreich bestimmte und, was für einen Künstler zu jener Zeit ungewöhnlich war, noch nach fast 40 Jahren künstlerische Höchstleistungen vollbrachte. Er schuf in der berühmten Maltradition des Jean Pucelle den Passionszyklus, das Einleitungsbild zu den Bußpsalmen und die Szenen aus dem Offizium Johannes des Täufers. Er hat aber auch viele der anderen Miniaturen entscheidend mitgeprägt. Denn obwohl sie von seinen Nachfolgern fertiggestellt wurden, lassen sie noch deutlich seine Kompositionsweise erkennen. Nach dem Tod des Jean Le Noir wurde die Arbeit an der Handschrift für einige Jahre unterbrochen. In einem zweiten Arbeitsabschnitt wurde der berühmte Jacquemart de Hesdin mit einigen Mitarbeitern, dem "Meister der Dreifaltigkeit" sowie dem sogenannten Pseudo-Jacquemart, beauftragt, das Werk zu vollenden, vermutlich zwischen 1385 und 1390. Um 1410, also lange nach der Fertigstellung der Handschrift, ließ der Herzog noch eine Miniatur durch einen der Brüder Limburg einfügen. Wegen dieser Unterbrechungen stellen die Petites Heures eines der wesentlichen Werke spätmittelalterlicher Buchmalerei am Wendepunkt zwischen der ausgehenden französischen Hofkunst des 14. Jahrhunderts und dem Beginn der Internationalen Gotik dar. - Bilder in vollendeter Schönheit und rekordverdächtiger Anzahl: Liebevoll bis ins kleinste Detail wurde jedes Blatt gestaltet. So entstand in diesem herrlichen Buch eine wahre Galerie von Bildern in einer Anzahl, die jedem Museum heute zur Ehre reichen würde. 119 Miniaturen finden sich in diesem außergewöhnlichen Werk. Die feinen Darstellungen dienten als kunstvolle visuelle Unterstützung, mit der die Buchmaler den Andachtstext zur Geltung brachten. Die Bilder bringen die großen Themen des christlichen Glaubens. Ihre Reihe beginnt mit den Miniaturen des Kalendariums und führt über das Marienleben und die Passion Christi zu den Szenen der vom Herzog besonders verehrten Heiligen. Reiche Ausstattung in Gold und Silber Die zahlreichen Darstellungen des Gönners selbst verleihen der Prachthandschrift einen weitgehend persönlichen Charakter. Es gibt viele Hinweise darauf, daß der Herzog dieses Stundenbuch auf seinen häufigen Reisen immer bei sich hatte. Der verschwenderische Buchschmuck setzt sich aus einer Vielzahl von Motiven zusammen: prächtigen Versinitialen auf fast jeder Seite, herrlichem Rankenwerk, unzähligen Vögeln und Schmetterlingen. Für die Ausschmückung der 119 Miniaturseiten wurde reichlich Gold und Silber verwendet denn nur das Beste war gut genug für die Ausschmückung des herzoglichen Stundenbuches. This was their 10th performance as Nirvana and the 3rd with Chad Channing on drums. Both pieces are in very good condition. The original handbill in black and white. The original artwork is a colour collage with pen and ink on paper (at some point the artwork has lost its Jesus). An exceptional and early piece of Nirvana history. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, the first year of eligibility. Provenance: Acquired from the show promoter and creator of the artwork who was also a member of the opening act MDL (Millions of Dead Lenninz). Colophon signed by the designer, printer & binder Joe D&#39;Ambrosio. It was printed using 14pt Della Robbia type on Rives BFK paper. Ingres marbled paper used for the box structure and endpapers. The front board creates a frame shaped like billowing sail. Behind it is French marbled paper with intersecting white cords used to suggest rigging ropes. (A Memoir of Book Design 1969-2000, page 106-107). This book is made from the limited edition plates created in 1973. In 1922, Duncan Gleason (1881-1959) created a series of copper etchings for the etched book Windjammers. Although the publisher planned 325 copies, probably not more than 100 pulls were made from the plates. No other editions or states of these etchings other than the 1973 edition printed at Triad Graphics in a limited edition of 25 numbered impressions. There are no signed or unnumbered impressions other than 10 publishers proofs which are so marked. The edition including the publishers proofs was done on Murillo paper using brown ink. There are a total of 50 trial proofs of various etchings done in black or brown ink and are marked as such. Each etching is impressed with the blind stamp of the Gallery Easel ( from the Certificate of the 1973 edition). Card from Lorson&#39;s Books & the certificate of the 1973 edition are laid-in. Case is somewhat faded on spine.

A sequence of five haiku by the Scottish poet Kenneth White who lives in France and has written verses in English and in French. Each page has the English verse, followed by the French verse set in italic; the recto of each page is Bertrand Bracaval&#39;s silkscreen. Inspired by the ancient monuments of Greece, the Acropolis, Delphi, etc. The haiku catch the starkness of the Greek landscape, as do the stone-like triangles in Bracaval&#39;s square silkscreens. The French artist has also set the type. Bracaval has been awarded many prizes through nearly four decades beginning with the Prix Lafont in 1967 and most recently the Prix Robert Beltz in 2002. His works are continually exhibited and are held in such public collections as the Centre George Pompidou, British Library, and the Boston Athenaeum.

The front board creates a frame shaped like billowing sail. Behind it is French marbled paper with intersecting white cords used to suggest rigging ropes. (A Memoir of Book Design 1969-2000, page 106-107). This book is made from the limited edition plates created in 1973. In 1922, Duncan Gleason (1881-1959) created a series of copper etchings for the etched book Windjammers. Although the publisher planned 325 copies, probably not more than 100 pulls were made from the plates. No other editions or states of these etchings other than the 1973 edition printed at Triad Graphics in a limited edition of 25 numbered impressions. There are no signed or unnumbered impressions other than 10 publishers proofs which are so marked. The edition including the publishers proofs was done on Murillo paper using brown ink. There are a total of 50 trial proofs of various etchings done in black or brown ink and are marked as such. Each etching is impressed with the blind stamp of the Gallery Easel ( from the Certificate of the 1973 edition). Card from Lorson's Books & the certificate of the 1973 edition are laid-in. Case is somewhat faded on spine.

      London: Black Spring Press, 1988. Hardcover. Very good. First Edition.158pp+ index. Tiny closed tear to the top of the front panel, otherwise fine in a near fine jacket. . Signed and dated in the year of publication by Cave on the title page. Cave's first book, a collection of all the lyrics he had written for his fist band The Birthday Party and his subsequent project The Bad Seeds along with some short prose pieces and fourteen plays thrown in for good measure. Relatively early work from a man whose stature has continued to grow as his music has matured.
