        White Shroud. Poems 1980–1985

New York: Harper & Row,, 1986. Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine gilt, design to upper board in blind, brown endpapers. With the dust jacket. An excellent copy in the dust jacket. First edition, first printing. A fine association copy inscribed by the author on the title page and with an unusually accomplished original pen drawing as a frontispiece, "for Stephen Spender from Allen Ginsberg 3/12/87 AH Seton Hill". Ginsberg and Spender are connected through their mutual hero Auden a relationship indicative of Ginsberg's unique position as a kind of fulcrum of 20th century poetry. The Telegraph obituary of Ginsberg reports that after a period of many years during which he had abandoned his art, "Stephen Spender began to write poetry again after encountering his work".

Children of Light [Inscribed Association Copy]

NY: Knopf. 1986. The uncorrected proof copy of the first American edition of his fourth novel. This is Stone's Hollywood novel -- an eerie tale of an actor/screenwriter and a psychotic, drug-dependent actress, with echoes of both King Lear and Kate Chopin's The Awakening, both of which are also among the plot elements. A harsh look at the underside of Hollywood's glamour, written after Stone had had two less-than-satisfying experiences with the Hollywood adaptations of his first two books, A Hall of Mirrors and Dog Soldiers, filmed respectively as WUSA and Who'll Stop the Rain? Inscribed by Stone to another National Book Award-winning writer and his wife: "For ___ & ___ with admiration and respect -- my deepest esteem/ Robert Stone." Some dustiness and rubbing to covers, with a bit of spine-fading; very good in wrappers, in custom folding chemise and slipcase. A very nice association copy. . First Edition. Softcover.

        HANNE DARBOVEN " Histoire de la culture " 1980/1983 " 24 CHANTS "

Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris - Paris 1986. 1 Volume/1. -- Très bon état -- Broché cousu . Format oblong 24 x 32,4 cm ( 1295 gr ).

Tucson, AZ: Nazraeli Press, 2013. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Tucson, AZ: Nazraeli Press, 2013. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 54 pages. Retrospective collection of photographs. One of the most beautiful photography books of our time. Deluxe Clamshell Box Edition of 25 numbered and signed copies. Published simultaneously and should not be confused with the First Limited Edition. They have the same ISBN. An austerely elegant production by Mark Steinmetz and Chris Pichler: Oversize-volume format. Salmon cloth boards with photographic reproduction pasted on the front board&#39;s center and maroon titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and brief Introduction by Mark Steinmetz. 11 X 14 inch silver-gelatin print encased in its own protective plastic sleeve and laid into the box. Matching salmon cloth clamshell box with photographic reproduction pasted on the cover. Printed on thick, uncoated Japanese stock paper using Nazraeli Press&#39; "Daido black" patented ink to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Mark Steinmetz&#39;s homage to Paris. Yet another photography book on Paris? Yes, exquisitely so, as Steinmetz shows us his most lyrically beautiful and personal work to date. "Paris was where his mother was born and raised, giving Steinmetz a special connection to and familiarity with the city. In the streets, parks, and along the Seine, Steinmetz plays with the conventions of the Paris photographic tradition from Atget to Kertesz. The work is Classical, but with a Modern feel that both updates the tradition and follows the path Steinmetz has set with his other books" (Publisher&#39;s blurb). Steinmetz&#39;s unique affinity for children (who dominate both his "South" Trilogy and "Summertime") and birds, two of the most vulnerable living beings, is in full view here. P is for Paris, and for Mark Steinmetz, Paris = People, Place, and Pigeons. An absolute "must-have" edition for Mark Steinmetz and Paris photography book collectors. <b><i> This copy is one of the Deluxe Clamshell Box Edition, and it is very prominently and beautifully signed in the artist&#39;s black charcoal pencil on the title page by Mark Steinmetz. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. It comes with an 11 X 14 inch silver-gelatin print that is encased in its own protective plastic sleeve and laid into the box. The print is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully numbered, titled, dated, and signed in pencil on verso by the photographer: "Mark Steinmetz Paris 1986 12/25". This title will become a contemporary photography classic. This is one of very few copies of the Deluxe Clamshell Box Edition still available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Like Steinmetz&#39;s other books, its value will not only keep but go up quickly over time. A rare signed copy thus. </b></i> 43 duotone plates, 1 original silver-gelatin print. Mark Steinmetz&#39;s "South" Trilogy is now widely regarded as one of the greatest photographic projects of our time. One of the most brilliant living photographers. A flawless collectible copy.         A Perfect Spy [*SIGNED*]

London: Hodder & Stoughton. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. 1986. 1st U.K. edition. Hardcover. 0-340-38784-X . [nice copy, with just a touch of wear to book and jacket]. SIGNED "John le Carré" on the title page, and additionally INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the dedication page, beneath the printed dedication: "and for ______, / a prince, whether / crowned or not, / and a beloved / old chum ----" / David." The most autobiographical of the author&#39;s espionage novels, following his protagonist from boyhood into his career as a spy. Personally inscribed and "double-signed" (i.e. with both names) copies of le Carré&#39;s books are uncommon. There are those who would have you believe that a merely-signed -- I will not use that f-word -- and un-inscribed copy is "more collectible" (purely a matter of opinion) and "more valuable" (utter rot). Personally I am toying with the idea of a pricing system that will charge for lengthy personal inscriptions on a pro rata per-word basis; fortunately for you, however, I have not yet worked out all the kinks of this system, and this book can still be had at its current price, which might well look like a terrific bargain in another year or so.

(ALVENG, DAG). Alveng, Dag & Susan Kismaric. ASYLUM: PHOTOGRAPHS BY DAG ALVENG - AN EXTRAORDINARY SIGNED ASSOCIATION COPY. Signed Presentation Copy from the Photographer. Oslo, NORWAY: Koks Forlag & Preus Fotomuseum, 1986. First Edition. 4to. Boards in Printed Dust Jacket. Photography Monograph. Near Fine/Good. np (60pp), 26 duotone illustrations. Designed by Per Maning. Text in English and Norwegian. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. "Asylum" is noted Oslo-based photographer Dag Alveng&#39;s haunting look at a Norwegian Mental Institution as evidenced by its interiors and objects - devoid of its residents. It features beautifully reproduced black and white plates whose halftone negatives were prepared by the esteemed Richard Benson. An internally bright, most handsome copy of the exceedingly uncommon 1986 first edition (cited on page 298 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger&#39;s "The Photobook: A History Volume II") bearing the SIGNED PRESENTATION "For Holly / Love, Dag" in ink on the title page whose notoriously fragile printed vellum dust jacket shows chips, closed tears, and paper loss to the front panel, and has adhered in spots to the glue-impregnated covers along the front and rear panels, as is typical. The inscription is to the much-loved late New York collector turned gallerist Holly Solomon, who gave the photographer his second US exhibition in 1993, and from whose library we acquired this significant tome directly. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.
