William Tillyer lithograph for Chicago International Art Exposition

Bernard Jacobson, London 1985 - A William Tillyer colour lithograph printed in colour on thick hand made paper. I think paper has been especially made for this edition as it is shaped for the image and has a uneven edge. This lithograph is signed in pencil by the artist and comes from a small edition size of 50 copies, this being numbered 14. This image was used for the Chicago International Art Exposition poster in 1985, which was held at Navy Pier. The lithograph was published by Bernard Jacobson Gallery, London. At present the print is framed and it has a small dampstain, not in the print, but on the backing to the far right corner. See photograph. The item will be posted out of frame unless discussed otherwise.Size 74 x 53cmIn 1984, William Tillyer traveled extensively throughout South Western America making watercolours and worked on the Bridge Mesh paintings and the Esk Bridge series of etchings. It was in 1985 that Tillyer had a solo show at Roger Ramsay Gallery, Chicago. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

An excellent, collector's-quality copy: clean, tight, square, and bright. All tips are sharp. The textblock is immaculate; no reading wear and no previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a mylar sleeve, appears as new; the original price (11.95) is intact. SIGNED and dated (1988) by the author -- without further inscription -- on the ffep. "The title poem of this collection, Seamus Heaney's first after 'Field Work' (1979), is set on an island that has been a site of pilgrimage in Ireland for over a thousand years. Heaney's pilgrim is on an inner journey and proceeds through a series of dream encounters which lead him back into the world that formed him, and then forward to face the crises of the present. It is preceded by a section of richly meditative lyrics and leads naturally into a third group of poems, in which the poet's voice is at one with the voice of the legendary Sweeney, a king of Ulster whose story Heaney translated from the Irish." Inscribed by Elie Wiesel on the half-title page (in addition to the facsimile signature on the cover). Night offers much more than a litany of the daily terrors, everyday perversions, and rampant sadism at Auschwitz and Buchenwald; it also eloquently addresses many of the philosophical as well as personal questions implicit in any serious consideration of what the Holocaust was, what it meant, and what its legacy is and will be. .
