        Upon Some Midnight's Clear

David Godine, Boston 1985 - The first edition, published in 1985 by David Godine. A beautiful copy - both book and dust jacket are fine. This copy bears a lenghty and wonderful inscription from Constantine in which he references his attendance at the same writing program as Andre Dubus. The wry and self-deprecating inscription closes with ' Once, in a moment alive with electrical genius, he came out of the building as I went in.' As with all early era Balzic's, quite uncommon signed. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

The Bone People - SIGNED + BAND

Hodder and Stoughton 1985 - A first edition, first printing, published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1985. This is the second issue which is smaller in size to the first issue and has the flash on the wrapper stating, 'Shortlisted for the Booker Prize 1985'. The book has been signed and inscribed by the author to the ffep (and located, stating Orario). The book is very good only and has wear to the boards and a small black dot to the base of the page edge – no other inscriptions. In a near fine clipped wrapper which is a little sunned on the spine. Complete with the Booker Shortlist band. Hulme's success with this title had a negative effect on her state of mind and she became reclusive. Signed copies of this title in any form are extremely rare and virtually unknown. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

The Plant: Part Three (First Galley)

Philtrum Press 1985 - Bangor, Maine: Philtrum Press (1985). The Plant: Part Three by Stephen King. Unbound sheets. pp. 32 + 1. Rare "First Galley" Of Part Three. Only Extant First Galley Copy Annotated by Michael Alpert (Designer). Page Condition: Fine. 7.5" x 25". 32 pages plus extra marked-up colophon page by Designer to Stinehour Press. HISTORY ¿The Plant¿ was published privately by Philtrum Press starting in November 1982 and was created as an epistolary novel ¿in-progress to be distributed among friends of the King family as a Christmas greeting, in lieu of a more traditional card. They were never offered for sale to the general public. Part One was sent out in December 1982, Part Two the following year and Part Three in 1985, with ¿The Eyes of the Dragon¿ (another Philtrum Press production) substituted in 1984. While originally intended to be a longer piece, it was ended prematurely due to the fact that Steve thought it was too much like the film Little Shop of Horrors, which premiered in 1986. GALLEY PROOF For each of the three years, Michael Alpert (designer) was responsible for printing 226 copies (200 numbered and 26 lettered) that were to be signed by Steve. In the course of completing the required copies, Stinehour Press would send Michael "Galleys" that he would mark up with corrections/changes that were necessary to meet Steve's intended vision for the project. After the Galleys were complete, Stinehour would print "Proofs" on the Italian Fabriano Ingres paper so that Michael and Steve could see how the finished book will look. When the Proofs were approved, the print run would commence. The Galleys were the first pass on this project, and the First Galley would separate all the necessary fonts that the book utilized, with the correct line spacing. This particular Galley offered here is said First Run. The colophon page shows the necessary corrections that Michael stipulated that Stinehour incorporate on the Second Galley, including adding necessary fonts, removing the sentence that said that Michael Alpert would be hand-sewing the books in Bangor, Maine since Part Three was bound with glue, unlike Part One and Two. Furthermore, since neither Part One or Part Two had a spine that could accommodate the title, author and publisher information, Part Three was the first time that Michael had to choose the spacing and location of said details. He makes a note to switch the location of "The Plant" and "Stephen King". Very rare, this is the only known First Galley copy in existence. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Przeciw z?u, przeciw przemocy. Wystawa dedykowana pamieci Ks. Jerzego Popieluszki. [Against evil, against violence. An Exhibition to Commemorate the Memory of Fr. Jerzy Popie?uszko.]

[Poland] 1985 - Original collage. Printed and mounted on newspaper. ca. 425 × 300 mm. Get-Stankiewicz collage, with the title of the 1985 collective exhibition dedicated to the memory of Jerzy Popie?uszko, the priest murdered by the Polish secret police. Printed on the first page of "Trybuna Ludu" the communist daily newspaper of Poland. Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz (b. 1942) is a Polish graphic artist and sculptor. During the 1980s he was associated with the Solidarno?ci (Solidarity) and created poster- and other designs for the movement. The Roman Catholic priest Jerzy Popie?uszko (1947-1984) was also linked to the oppositional Solidarity and in his sermons, he agitated against the Communist politics and motivated the people to protest. The security service of the communist state tried to silence him in many ways unsuccessfully, and eventually, they set up a car accident to kill him. Get-Stankiewicz created this piece, to commemorate the memory of Popie?uszko, the red figure carrying the cross in the white background, emerging from the red soil or banner, the two colors and the composition is an allusion to the Polish flag. The paper yellowed due to aging. Chipped, probably while cut by the artist. The mounted print is in fine condition. Overall in very good condition. Original collage. Printed and mounted on newspaper.

Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West

New York: Random House. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1985. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Coming from the personal library of Ed Abbey is an association copy of Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian"; inscribed by McCarthy to Ed Abbey, "For Ed With all best wishes Your friend Cormac." A very good copy with original dust jacket and red, half cloth binding. Dust jacket has light creasing at top edge, a quarter inch tear at the top of the spine and light toning to inside flaps; boards have light sunning and foxing to top edge, and light wear to bottom, right corner; rear pastedown has three leaves pasted to back board; text block is clean and binding is tight. Research and experience handling McCarthy's works reveals that he rarely inscribed books, this inscribed copy being very rare. Although the relationship between Ed Abbey and Cormac McCarthy is unknown, the inscription shows a level of familiarity, and the association between two of the most influential writers of the 20th and 21st centuries is remarkable. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 337 pp; Signed by Author .

        Ender's Game

Tor, 1985. Hardback. Very Good/Fine(Ex-Lib). First edition hardback, an externally clean Ex-Library copy, with endpaper lift from being glued to the backside of the Mylar dust jacket protector, pocket removal on FFE, and discard stamp on title page, otherwise VG with slight spine lean and slight wear at heel, in a Fine Mylar-protected dust jacket. Formerly my own personal copy. Far and away the most difficult domestic Hugo and Nebula winner of recent vintage; you'd have to go back to Lord of Light in 1968 to find a domestic Hugo & Nebula winner that goes for more. The last Ex-Library copy I had I sold for $495, and this is much nicer.
