Tom Clancy
Annapolis, MD: 1984. This is the ARC/Uncorrected Proof for The Hunt for Red October, Naval Institute Press, fist published in Oct, 1984. I have read that only 500 ARC/Proofs were printed and the first production run was only 5,000. 5,000. Signed on a bookplate laid in. The book is in Fine condition for its age, square and tight, and appears to be gently read but well taken care of. The plain Red (almost Burgundy) wraps are in beautiful condition, almost pristine. The pages and edges are clean and bright with no markings. It comes from a smoke-free home. There is an owner's Book Plate on the inside of the front wrap. Normally it is covered by the front flap and thus essentially invisible. The name has been blacked out but it is readable in a good light. A Book Plate signed by Clancy has been laid in for the new owner to do as they please with it. The special Dust Jacket, similar to the production DJ but made specially for the Proof, has the diagonal 'COMING THIS FALL!' yellow band and is in very good condition. The edges show wear and tear especially at the top and bottom of the spine, mainly because the DJ is larger than the book which has caused some crimping at the edges. There is a very small area of pink staining on the front flap but it has not bled through. It also appears that for some reason a 1/2" section running the width of the back flap has been purposely and cleanly removed. There are three clear pieces of tape on the inside of the jacket at the top and bottom of the spine and at the fold of the back flap where the section was removed. While I have not tried to … [Click Below for Full Description]

The novel mixes political allegory, metaphysics and a touchingly beautiful lesbian love story. Told in a desultory, opiated prose. Guillermo Wagner Granzio
1984. Condition: Fine condition. 9 x 12". Original color tile of portrait of John Steinbeck given to the Catherian L. & Robert O. Mc Mahan Foundation in recognition of its generous contribution to the large Monterey Mural which is mounted on the exterior wall of the Monterey Conference Center. These recognition tiles, apparently each one unique, are uncommon and the only one we've handled. Guillermo Wagner Granizo was born in San Francisco in 1923. He spent his boyhood years in Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua where he began to appreciate ceramics and the freedom of expression of non-traditional art. Granizo devoted all of his energies to the rendering of ceramic tile murals and mosaics with special attention to the creative uses of color glazes. In the late 70's he began an extraordinary career transformation as a ceramic tile muralist, historian and fine artist. Many of his works are on public display in many cities in California, the U.S. and the world. In 1984, the City of Monterey installed one of Granizo's large murals depicting the rich history of the Monterey Peninsula including native Rumsen Indians who lived there thousands of years ago and continues with the historical documentation of many events of the area. Also included is Father Junipero Serra who founded the mission in Monterey, the Spanish attacking in the early 1800's and the historical developments that took place there up until 1983. Near the upper right had corner of the mural, Granizo depicts three men in a hot air balloon (Bing Crosby, Samuel Morse (Del Monte) and John Steinbeck). Granizo included the … [Click Below for Full Description]

With essays by Jan van der Marck and Charlotta Kotik. Morellet has signed his name over his printed name on that page and has then inked out a portion of the word "Sysytems" and used the remaining letters as part of his brief inscription There is some sticky remains from a small sticker shadow on the title page, otherwise this is a handsome very good or better copy. Koretsky, Victor; Sokolov, Vladimir
Order of Lenin printing house "Red Proletarian". Moscow: Order of Lenin printing house "Red Proletarian", 1984. Loose_leaf. 26 1/2" X 18 1/2". A striking 1984 Russian Cold War poster designed by one of the most highly regarded Soviet propaganda artists, Victor Koretsky. The poster communicates a profound anti-American sentiment and was created as a response to Ronald Reagan's push to begin manufacturing chemical weapons again, the production of which had been suspended after the Vietnam war. It attempts to expose what they regarded as the hypocrisy of a nation holding itself up as a beacon of human rights, while disregarding the Nuremberg laws on chemical war. The text at the top translates to "No to Chemical Weapons!" while a gas-masked man with dollar signs for eyes and an American flag helmet pours poison into a glass jar with a disturbing pile of skulls behind it. Towards the bottom, the Russian translates to: "The USA is allocating 10 billion dollars to the program for chemical rearmament." Overall very good with minor edgewear and some creases and faint toning. An interesting example of Koretsky's work, which is now nearly synonymous with mid-to-late 20th century Soviet agit-prop style. None in OCLC. This item is oversize and will require additional postage for international orders. Very good. Item #3724.
