1984. Condition: Very Good. Excellent condition. No marks, writing or underling. Only imperfection is slight tear around the bottom staple. Check out this gem. This listing is for a rare 1984 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report. As has often been said, these Berkshire Hathaway annual reports, including the Chairman's Letter written by Warren Buffett, are pure solid gold loaded with investing wisdom. This copy is in excellent condition. No underlinings, marks or writing on it. The only imperfection is a slight tear around the bottom staple. You almost don't even see it. 64 total pages, which also includes the 1984 annual report letters from Charlie Munger. Makes a great addition to your Berkshire annual report collection. It probably goes without saying, but I only have this one '84 Berkshire annual report, so when it's gone, that's it. It's gone forever. Shipping is by USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation (in a box to protect it)... so you'll be holding your copy of the 1984 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report in your hands in just 2-3 business days. P.S. One last thought. It's important. As a serious collector I know once said, "When you come across a rare item, the time to buy it is when you see it, because you may never see it again.". Steinbeck, John; Stegner, Wallace (Afterword); Wikstrom, Karin
Carolyn and James Robertson, The Yolla Bolly Press, 1984. Wikstrom, Karin. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Copy "M", folio size, 60 pp., signed by Wallace Stegner and Karin Wikstrom. Fine. John Steinbeck (1902-1968), considered "a giant of American letters", was best known for his portrayals of families in California, often exploring themes of alienation and injustice through "everyman" characters (n. b., info from Wikipedia). "Flight" is a short story, originally published in the collection "The Long Valley", on the subject of manhood, as the protagonist Pepe strives to fill his father's place. While in town, he kills a man and must fllee, and his subsequent trials reveal that Pepe is not only "trying to live up to the foolish and romantic ideal of manhood common to his kind, but [is] one of the incarnations of Everyman pursuing the ideals that, foolish or not. . .in the end give him stature and dignity" (per the afterword). Wallace Stegner (1909-1993) provides an afterword for this edition. Stegner was often called "The Dean of Western Writers"; he was a member of the faculty at Stanford University and founded its creative writing program. The Stegner Fellowship program at Stanford was named in his honour, and he is a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in 1972 and the U.S. National Book Award in 1977. In the afterword, Stegner analyses the themes and characters in the story, in the context of Steinbeck's other work as well as the literary movement at the time. Included in this publication by The Yolla Bolly Press are woodcuts by Swedish artist Karin Wikstrom (b. 1959), who has c … [Click Below for Full Description]

ALFRED A KNOPF, 1984. letter has address change and marks, and spots, book has some wear and tear, faint musty smell. This book came from the collection of SUZY PARKER, top model of the 1950's the letter was inside the book HORST: His Work and His World 1984 1st edition was written by Horst's longtime partner, Valentine Nicholas Lawford Horst P. Horst (born Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann) was one of the towering figures of 20th century fashion photography. Best known for his work with Vogue--who called him "photography's alchemist"--Horst rose to prominence in Paris in the interwar years, publishing his first work with the magazine in 1931. In the decades that followed, Horst's experimentations with radical composition, nudity, double exposures, and other avant-garde techniques would produce some of the most iconic fashion images ever, likeMainbocher Corset and Lisa with Harp (both 1939). As The New York Times once described, "Horst tamed the avant-garde to serve fashion." Though associated most closely with fashion photography, Horst captured portraits of many of the 20th century's brightest luminaries, dabbling with influences as far-ranging as Surrealism and Romanticism. "I like taking photographs, because I like life," he once said. "And I love photographing people best of all, because most of all I love humanity." Suzy Parker was an American model and actress active from 1947 into the early 1960s. Her modeling career reached its zenith during the 1950s, when she appeared on the cover of dozens of magazines and in advertisements and movie and television roles. in the letter … [Click Below for Full Description]

A rare find in this condition. Synopsis The Butter Battle Book is a rhyming story written by Dr. Seuss. It was published by Random House Books for Young Readers on January 12, 1984. It is an anti-war story; specifically, a parable about arms races in general, mutuallyassured destruction and nuclear weapons in particular. The Butter Battle Book was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. This book was written during the Cold War era, and reflects the concerns of the time, especially the perceived possibility that all life on Earth could be destroyed in a nuclear war. It can also be seen as a satirical work, with its depiction of a deadly war based on a senseless conflict over something as trivial as a breakfast food. The concept of a war based on toast is similar to the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu in Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, which was nominally based on the correct end to crack an egg once soft boiled. ---------- About the Author---------- Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904 - 1991) was an American writer, poet, and cartoonist. Miller, Arthur; Baskin, Leonard (Illustrator)
The Limited Editions Club [printed by the Wild Carrot, 1984. Baskin, Leonard. Limited Edition. Leather. no. 351 of 1500, quarto size, 167 pp., signed by both Arthur Miller and Leonard Baskin, with LEC Newsletter and invitation to publication party. Fine. Arthur Asher Miller (1915-2005) was seminal figure in twentieth-century American Theatre. In Miller's more than thirty plays, which won him a Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony Awards, he put in question "death and betrayal and injustice and how we are to account for this little life of ours." For nearly six decades, Miller created characters that wrestle with power conflicts, personal and social responsibility, the repercussions of past actions, and the twin poles of guilt and hope (n.b., info from The National Endowment for the Humanities website). Leonard Baskin (1922-2000) was an artistic genius whose works almost defy categorization. Eminent in sculpting, illustration, printmaking and also as a typographer and printer, he pursued multiple art forms all of which have, as an underlying thread, social consciousness and a high regard for humanity (n.b., above information from the website of the Galerie St. Etienne). Mr. Baskin founded The Gehenna Press in 1942 while at Yale University, taking his inspiration from William Blake's example as both a poet and an artist/bookmaker. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound by Gray Parrot in full rust-brown Nigerian goatskin with gilt lettering on the spine, with five tissue-guarded etchings by Leonard Baskin; printed by the Wild Carrot Letterpress, set in American and English monotype Bulmer on mould … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bound in handmade Rugg Road Wrappers hand-sewn by Po Crest Robinson. 6-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches; unpaginated (32) pages. Limited to 250 copies numbered and signed by Alan James Robinson. This is copy #31. Illustrated with eleven wood engravings printed directly from the block. The paper is Rives Lightweight, french-fold. Printed letterpress in red and black by Harold McGrath. The prospectus, printed in two colors, features two wood engravings. Laid-into this copy are 4 additional prints from the Black Cat, signed and numbered 9/200, by Alan James Robinson. These I purchased separately from Mr. Robinson after buying the book directly from the Press in 1984. There is a fifth engraving that is attached permanently to the lid, this unsigned, unnumbered. Here is one of Poe's most macabre tales, beautifully printed and illustrated. It tells the story of a good kitty gone bad. But this kitty has cause, valid cause for revenge: his master has lost his grip on reality and gone mad, obsessing on his black cat and visiting various tortures on said cat. But cat will mew and have his day--and wh … [Click Below for Full Description]

Lichtenstein, Roy. (1923-1997)
1984. FIRST EDITION, ONE OF ONLY 100 COPIES SIGNED BY LICHTENSTEINThe complete suite, comprising 24 offset lithographs printed in colors on Coronado Opaque SST Cover paper, signed in blue felt tip pen, dated and numbered on inside of portfolio (there were also 2500 bound copies), loose as issued, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York, printed by Meriden-Stinehour Press, Meriden, CT, in excellent condition, with introductory essay and list of images, all housed in grey cloth covered clamshell portfolio with red letterpress title. Light soiling to box, else fine. 7 1/2 x 10 1/4in each sheet; 8 1/4 x 10 7/8 x 7/8in overall.Although known primarily for large, bold works, Roy Lichtenstein "always worked from meticulous, finished sketches. During a distinguished career of almost three decades, he has seldom deviated from the practice of using these sketches to generate paintings, prints, and sculpture in ongoing, and discrete, series. "The twenty-four drawings in this sketchbook are 'all landscapes, figures, and houses, but they are essentially landscapes.' Photography
np, 1984. 74 color polaroids, 3 1/2 x 4 1/4", housed in a comemrcial plastic sleeve album. A remarkable series, consisting mostly of portraits of attendees to the convention in Dallas, Texas. The anonymous photographer had a keen eye for detail, and a good handful of the snapshots are small masterpieces. Includes shots of a pro-marijuana attendee, Guardian Angels, the John 3:16 guy with the rainbow wig, policemen, and at least one protester. Very good with some scattered light wear and soiling.

First edition of this work which analyzes the Reagan Administration's attempts to greatly reduce taxes, regulations, and government spending and suggests practical changes. Octavo, original half cloth. Signed by both Milton and Rose Friedman on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. The Friedmans describe the ''tyranny of the status quo'' as a political inertia characterized by ''an iron triangle of beneficiaries, politicians, and bureaucrats.'' It amounts to a democratic version of European conservatism, in which special interests strive to maintain positions of privilege. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
