William Beebe And Elswyth Thane
Most Likely NY, NY: 1984. *NOTE: the last photo shows an envelope which contained the items I currently have from Thane's estate. It is not included in this auction- it's only being shown for reference. Authors William Beebe And Elswyth Thane Holiday Card- Undated, Inscribed! 8-1/4" x 5-1/4" B&W litho printed on heavy (rigid) card stock. About EX condition overall with corner bumps. Extremely rare to begin with, and historically interesting for the inscription on the back from Beebe to Thane. The couple were likely separated at this time per usual, theirs was a marriage of convenience. So although this was their shared holiday card, she received one from him. Most likely printed in NY, NY where their main residence was. This card is very similar to another one I have from a different year which depicts the interior of their NYC residence. Impossible to speculate what their living situation was at this time, but fun to speculate- they either both lived in the spacious house in NYC, or he there and her at the farm in VT, or he abroad on some exotic expedition... I can make out most of the inscription, but the third line is open to interpretation. " Hiya Toots! You run your own concerns! I will [rebut hers?]. I will only be your humble ass't. Will " See pics to judge condition. This item comes from rescued items from Elswyth Thane's estate in Vermont (the farm) during her final month- July, 1984 (see envelope pic). The person who retrieved these items was likely a distant relative (or good friend) who lived here in Des Moines, IA where Thane lived as a girl in her teens. Foster, John; Lost Music Network
Olympia: Lost Music Network, 1979-1984. First Edition. Complete run in 26 issues covering the letters of the alphabet, with six issues of follow-up OPtion included. Stapled wraps, some in newspaper format. Very Good condition overall. Subscription card cut out of back cover of first issue. Toning, slight chipping, and brittleness to first 14 issues. A few small stains to covers. Stamps, postmarks and name/address on back covers. A few stray pen marks (very infrequent). Red Tone Poets 7" laid into issue V. Light wrinkling to T issue. OP created "indie" as a musical label. It spanned the entirety of music not on major labels during a time of mainstream conformity and a largely unsung proliferation of sub rosa styles and genres. People associated with the fanzine went on to found K Records, Sub Pop, and a bunch of other labels; create grunge; and generally redefine the idea of American youth culture. These issues are still a great resource for finding overlooked music from the early '80s. Very Good.

Woodstock: Charles Gatewood and Flash Productions, 1984. First Edition. Oblong quarto. Number 666 of 700 numbered copies; SIGNED by Gatewood. An unheralded work by a photographer best-known for his 1975 cult favorite, Sidetripping, a collaboration with William S. Burroughs, focused on dark, eccentric characters in the tradition of Diane Arbus. Yet, the subject matter and rendering of Wall Street would seem to have nothing in common with Gatewood's other work. With its formalized detail of a dark and shadowy Wall Street, photographed between 1971-1975, this book feels more like Harry Callahan or Aaron Siskind than Diane Arbus. In his excellent introduction, A.D. Coleman writes with uncanny prescience that: "Money is the real obscenity of our age: people will detail their most intimate sex acts before they'll reveal their salaries or net worth. If there's truth in that, then what Gatewood has delivered up here is a set of visual metaphors for that most secretive perversion: high finance." Near fine in wrappers. Center, 1984. First Edition. Wraps. 4to. Thirteen issues, one supplement. Side-stapled or perfect-bound; printed mimeo or offset. All about very good plus or better (with the exception of the final issue, with large triangular notch cut out of bottom half of front cover and penned note reading "Limited Edition - / This copy not for resale"). Otherwise, only light touches of edgewear, hints of soil. Impressive overall: clean, bright, crisp. Very good +. Full run of this important mimeo distinguished by its emphasis on prose, rather than poetry; CENTER also drew from a wider range of avant-garde art than was typical of its peers (theatre, dance, and music, particularly from the Cage/Fluxus/Mac Low axis). Philip Corner, Richard Kostelanetz, and Jackson Mac Low were some of the more frequent contributors, among many others (David Antin, Carolee Schneeman, and Genesis P-Orridge, to name a few), during a period which saw "a plethora of experimentation in modes hitherto unexplored," as Berge herself put it. She also noted that print runs ranged from 200 to 450 each. [Clay and Phillips 204-5]. [Attributes: First Edition]

Charles Bukowski
Stockton, California: 1984. Fine. This Special Issue of Wormwood Review is entirely Bukowski. His drawings are printed on the cover. However this copy is one of the special 70 that have been signed by Charles Bukowski. He signed this copy and also drew a picture of a little man, his bottle and a dog. PLEASE NOTE the facsimile Bukowski signature on the facing page (on the white paper) is printed, not original. The bold black signature on the inside cover, on the orange is ORIGINAL. As are the drawings. This is a Bukowski book, an "A" item and is listed in Krumhansl as #91 (page 107). So I'm a slight bit confused. Horses don't bet on people and he doesn't either would that mean horses do bet on horses? OK then! I need a bit more coffee. In any case this is a beautiful copy and these signed/limited Wormwood Bukowski's are tough to find. Yes I did see another one of this issue on eBay so you decide which has the better drawing. International shipping is expensive because on higher price items I must have tracking so they don't make it cheap. Not to slam the U.S. Post Office but if they made everything wonderful we might never have gotten Bukowski in the first place. But be assured, I DO NOT make any money on postage. eBay puts on a 10% surcharge on postage. [Attributes: First Edition]

BARONI, Vittore
Agenzia Neoista Italiana / Vittore Baroni, 1984. first Edition. Envelope (10.25'' x 7.5'' approx.) containing 31 separate items: assorted xeroxed zines, cut-out collages, postcards, drawings, and paintings, ranging in size from 8.5'' x 11'' to less than one inch. Three multi-page items housed in plastic wrappers, apparently never opened. Materials include paper of various weights and colors, one color photograph, and one table napkin. In envelope as originally mailed to The Alternative Press of Detroit. Numbered 80/100. Near fine. Rare Neoist mail art and zine assemblage. Neoism - equal parts parodic art movement and subcultural affiliation - drew electic inspiration from the Fluxus, Dada, conceptual art, and Language poetry movements, reaching a peak of activity in the early 1980s followed by schism and decline. This collection is one of a long-running series of limited-edition mailings organized by Baroni beginning in the late '70s: "This tourist portfolio commemorates the first international flight to Akademgorod (the Promised Land of Neoism) as organized in January 84 by Agenzia Neoista Italiana." Contributors include Jurgen Olbrich, Clemente Padin, Henning Mittendorf, Emilio Morandi, David Zack, Carlo Pittore, Boris Wanowitch, Eva Lake, Ginny Lloyd, Al Ackerman, Pete Horobin, and "Monty Cantsin;" the latter was an "open pop star" identity initiated by Istvan Kantor and used freely and widely by various Neoist artists, as were later iterations "Karen Eliot" and "Luthor Blisset." OCLC locates no holdings. Rare. [Attributes: First Edition]

Tom Clancy
Annapolis, MD: 1984. This is the ARC/Uncorrected Proof for The Hunt for Red October, Naval Institute Press, fist published in Oct, 1984. I have read that only 500 ARC/Proofs were printed and the first production run was only 5,000. 5,000. Signed on a bookplate laid in. The book is in Fine condition for its age, square and tight, and appears to be gently read but well taken care of. The plain Red (almost Burgundy) wraps are in beautiful condition, almost pristine. The pages and edges are clean and bright with no markings. It comes from a smoke-free home. There is an owner's Book Plate on the inside of the front wrap. Normally it is covered by the front flap and thus essentially invisible. The name has been blacked out but it is readable in a good light. A Book Plate signed by Clancy has been laid in for the new owner to do as they please with it. The special Dust Jacket, similar to the production DJ but made specially for the Proof, has the diagonal 'COMING THIS FALL!' yellow band and is in very good condition. The edges show wear and tear especially at the top and bottom of the spine, mainly because the DJ is larger than the book which has caused some crimping at the edges. There is a very small area of pink staining on the front flap but it has not bled through. It also appears that for some reason a 1/2" section running the width of the back flap has been purposely and cleanly removed. There are three clear pieces of tape on the inside of the jacket at the top and bottom of the spine and at the fold of the back flap where the section was removed. While I have not tried to … [Click Below for Full Description]
