Handwritten Manuscript Journal of B.L. Bari Kennedy [Poems] circa 1984

1984 - Sacramento, 1984. Handwritten Manuscript Journal of B.L. Kennedy poems. Journal is a black leather-clad general-purpose notebook with "Scorpio" device and lettering in gilt on the cover, also metallic lavender imprinting, and is in about VG condition with bumped corners and spine ends and a hinge crack. Unpaginated, but contains 57 pages in ink, in Kennedy's somewhat floral hand. A collection of handwritten poems and notes by Sacramento counterculture poet and live arts events organizer B.L. "Bari" Kennedy, winner of a Sacramento Lifetime Achievement Award. Never one to shy from muckraking or pot-stirring of any sort, the energetic and charismatic Kennedy here penned thirty-three poems, all in January of 1984, including the handwritten form of the humorous and controversial "My Cock Goes To Hollywood", which outraged readers of the Sutterton News when it appeared there later in 1984. His rather neo-Kerouacian finesse at slightly philosophically softened counterculturalism, developed from his passion for live-performed cafe poetry and expressed in a conceit of humor-mellowed angst, is evident throughout these pieces, which include several dedicated poems, plenty of dry humor and a number of higher-than-PG-13 rated efforts as well. Accompanied by a copy of the April, 1984 Sacramento Magazine, in which he is the subject of a feature article, "Poetry's P.T.Barnum" (in recognition of his tireless and creative promotion of poetry). Magazine is in near fine condition. A nice companion piece to the separately-listed collection of first editions of D.R. Wagner poetry chapbooks, several of which are warmly inscribed to Kennedy, the two having been very close companions. L18 [Attributes: Hard Cover]

The Far Side of the World.

London: Collins 1984 - 1st ed. Fine copy in fine jacket. Publication of this title was delayed because of the publisher's decision to re-brand the series in a uniform edition with new jacket artwork. The delay so caused forced the book to be re-priced whilst still in the warehouse. Thus original 'as issued' copies are all price clipped with the publisher's new price sticker to front label of the jacket. A superior copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Collins. London.,1984 - FIRST EDITION. 8vo. The tenth novel in O'Brian's Aubrey and Maturin series. Pages margins are browned as is common with this book, otherwise a fine tight copy in publishers dark green boards with gilt lettering and publishers device to the spine. In the original full colour illustrated dustwrapper with the publishers price clip and new circular gold price(9.95) sticker to the inner flap. It appears the publisher had a change of mind regarding the price either at the time of publication, or very shortly after as few copies with the original, lower, price exist. There is a minor production fault where the original laminate has wrinkled along the front hinge, otherwise a near fine example of the dustwrapper with just a hint of fadig to the red spine, only noticable when studied closely. Generally a nice, clean and bright copy.: [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Coracle Press, London 1984 - 190 x 143 mm, hardback handmade artist's book by the Palestinian-born artist. Printed in a very low edition of 30 copies, this copy being the display copy, signed by the artist. Cover features gold letterpress text, with matte gold endpapers. Contents feature the artist's miniature gelatin prints (golden) on black card pages with grey borders, with handwritten captions by the artist in black ink, including the rear colophon which states 'display copy Verdi Yahooda 1984'.       New York G. P. Putnam’s Sons 1984 - First Putnam edition. With the two page map of Arrakis. 8vo, publisher’s original blue cloth over blue boards, the spine lettered in gilt, in the original dustjacket. 517 pp. A fine copy indeed, very bright, the jacket with virtually no wear and only trivial signs of age. FIRST EDITION AND THE FIRST BOOK IN HERBERT’S EPIC SERIES, AND ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS SCIENCE FICTION NOVELS OF ALL TIME. This finely produced Putnam edition attests to the near cult-like popularity that Frank Herbert had found with his complex story since its original publication in 1965. The story of Paul Atreides on the desert planet Arrakis had become one of the most famous and best selling novels of the genre. In 1975, it was voted by Science Fiction readers as the greatest novel ever, over such classics as LORD OF THE RINGS, 1984, STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND, and etc. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Sweeney Astray

Farrar Straus Giroux New York 1984 - SIGNED ACROSS THE TITLE PAGE with some vigour. A rare signed example of the American first printing, in a protected jacket. A great, some would say very great, utterly clear and comprehensible version of the 17th Century Irish text. Thought to have been composed even earlier in the 9th Century, this ravishing version takes the reader into an enchanted story world. Magnificent Heaney, writing at the top of his game, is something to treasure. This copy has the stamp of a former owner, and it is a used copy, but it is not abused. The jacket is not faded, and the smart binding has no bashed corners. There are two indentations on the back cover board, but it should bother nobody too much. This is truly a rare signed Heaney, and given the greatness of the content it is worth consideration by the serious collector. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Nathalie Sarraute - François. Photographies Originales.

- HYMAN,TRINA SCHART. ORIGINAL ART FROM CHRISTMAS POEMS a book of poems selected by Myra Cohn Livingston and published by Holiday House in 1984. The piece offered here is a charming double-page spread appearing on pages 24 and 25 of the book. The image measures 16" wide x 9" high and is nicely matted. The scene is viewed through a window from the inside, executed in pen and ink with a wash. A fanciful gingerbread house sits on a snowy mountain. A teddy bear peers over the hill. In front of the house are 5 little children playing with a cleverly drawn acorn-man. This is a lovely, detailed piece.
