        PSEUDODOXIA EPIDEMICA: UNICORNES HORNES

. (Easthampton, MA): Cheloniidae Press, 1984. Small 4to. (9 ¾" x 7"). Number 11 of 60 copies of the Deluxe Edition. Illustrated with 16 wood engravings by Alan James Robinson, and signed by him. Hand bound at Gray Parrotâ??s bindery in quarter vellum and laid in a custom gilt-lettered quarter vellum tray-case. Printed by Harold P. McGrath at Hampshire Typothetae on obsolete Whatman Paper, Blue-White Laid 1962. The frontispiece is an etching of Sir Thomas Browne. The Deluxe Edition contains a chemise housing an extra suite of the engravings and the etching, each SIGNED and numbered by Robinson. Prospectus laid in.Browneâ??s work was intended to demonstrate that one need not look to the mythical unicorn to find horned animals, since many exist in nature. Robinsonâ??s wood engravings illustrate examples of such animals including four legged beasts, insects, and fish. Of Unicornes Hornes was first published as Chapter XXIII in Browne's PSEUDODOXIA EPDEMICA in 1646. It was "corrected and much enlarged by the author" in 1650, and the Cheloniidea Pressâ?? production incorporates this latter text. Fine.

MIAMI BLUES - UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY, INSCRIBED BY ELMORE LEONARD

St. Martin's Press, New York 1984 - Octavo; dark yellow wrappers printed in black; 190pp. Inscribed by Leonard on the half-title page: "To Ian Clark / from a friend of Chas. Willeford / Elmore Leonard." Trifle wear to extremities, slight upward life to front wrapper, with faint spotting to rear wrapper; Very Good+ to Near Fine. Scarce uncorrected proof copy of Willeford's first Hoke Moseley novel. Though Willeford's career started in the late 1940's, fame came to him later in life, and that fame was brought about by the publication of 'Miami Blues.' Among the highest advance praise for his novel came from Elmore Leonard, who wrote: "Willeford, writing with quiet authority, has the ability to make his situations, scenes, dialogue, sound absolutely real. No one writes a better crime novel than Charles Willeford." A uniquely-inscribed copy by one of Willeford's earliest advocates, and the only proof copy we have seen for this title. Basis for the 1990 George Armitage film starring Alec Baldwin, Fred Ward, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

        Viaggio in Italia

Alessandria: Il Quadrante, 1984. Prima edizione (First Edition). broch con risvolti (soft covers with flaps). Ottimo (Fine). 8vo. Volume pubblicato in occasione della mostra alla Pinacoteca Provinciale di Bari del 1984. Fotografie a colori di Barbieri, Basilico, Battistella, Castella, Cavazzuti, Chiaramonte, Cresci, Fossati, Garzia, Guidi, Ghirri, Hill, Jodice, Leone, Nori, Sartorello, Tinelli, Tuliozi, Ventura, White. Aggiungo. Non solo in Italia. Da molti anni" (A.C. Quintavalle)

Hayek has written one of the most important books of our generation. [I]n my opinion it is a grand book. . . . Morally and philosophically I find myself in agreement with virtually the whole of it: and not only in agreement with it, but in deeply moved agreement" (John Maynard Keynes). The Road To Serfdom placed fourth on the list of the 100 best non-fiction books of the twentieth century by National Review magazine.

        The Long Wave Cycle

Richardson & Snyder, New York 1984 - Hardcover, Black cloth with silver title to spine, English Version, translated by Guy Daniels, Introduction by Julian M. Snyder. Book Condition: Near Fine, only slightest hint of any use, no marks externally or internally. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good, (in Mylar), front and back panels are tanned, but price intact, one small tear (3/8") to front cover near bottom edge, two small tears (1/2") on back cover near top edge, 2 small tears (3/8" & 1/2") on back cover near bottom edge, otherwise clean and protected. Contents: Nikolai Kondratieff is the father of the long wave economic cycle. He suggested that during a period of fifty years there would be (1) a decade of depression (2) thirty years of technical innovation (3) ten years of economic uncertainty, as growth forces of the past subside. Kondratieff came to believe in the 54-year cycle. His major work, published in 1925, forms the core of this book. His charts have been redrawn to conform to the originals of the Russian edition. Kondratieff's statistical tables are included in their entirety. Published in 1984, THE LONG WAVE CYCLE is the first translation from the original Russian text to appear in the world. Arthur Davis, a Nobel Laureate, cited Kondratieff in his acceptance speech, warning that economists should remember his admonition that no trend last forever. In 1922-1928, Nikolai Kondratieff published several papers dealing , in varying degrees of depth, with the question of long economic cycles. The most basic of these was an essay called "Long Economic Cycles," which was published in the journal Voprosy konyunktury (Problems of Economic Conditions, Vol.1, No.1, 1925). On February 6, 1926, it was read as a paper at the Economics Institute of the Russian Association of Social Science Research Institutes. In 1928, it was reprinted in a book published by that institute under the title "Long Economic Cycles, by N.D. Kondratieff and D.I. Oparin. (Oparin was listed as co-author because, along with briefer comments by other Soviet economists, a good part of the book is given to his critique of Kondratieff's theory.) The text is taken from that book. Unfortunately, Josef Stalin did not care for Kondratieff's theories as they were seen as criticism of his intentions for the Soviet Economy. In 1930, Stalin had Kondratieff arrested and sent to a Soviet Labor Camp where he later received the death penalty in 1938. 138 pages. Very Scarce in this condition. Collectible.
