        The Talisman

Viking, New York 1984 - The Donald M. Grant edition, published in a limitation of 1200 copies, appears with some frequency, albeit at a cost commensurate with the care put into its production. Copies of the first trade edition signed by both King and Straub are exceedingly uncommon. This copy was inscribed on the 4th of August 1986 by Straub and on September 2, 1986 by King. Straub has written ' for William Kennedy. Thank you for your wonderful and appreciated comments, you're the sort of reader we're grateful to have. ' Below this inscription, King has written ' for William Kennedy. Thanks - and welcome to the territories.' A bright unread copy of the first, with just light bumps to upper corners. The jacket is flawless, but for a rubbed spot whether the upper spine joins the front panel. A distinctive copy of a singularly successful collaborative effort. The first edition, published by Viking in 1984. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

He became a monk at a young age, and at some time left Arabia to dwell with monks in Persia. He was consecrated Bishop of Nineveh (and is therefore sometimes called St Isaac of Nineveh), but after five months received permission to return to solitude; he spent many years far south of Nineveh in the mountainous region of Beit Huzaye, and lastly at the Monastery of Rabban Shabur. He wrote his renowned and God inspired Ascetical Homilies toward the end of his long life of monastic struggle, about the end of the seventh century. *** The fame of his Homilies grew quickly, and about 100 years after their composition they were translated from Syriac into Greek by two monks of the Monastery of Mar Sabbas in Palestine, from which they spread throughout the monasteries of the Roman Empire and became a guide to all generations thereafter.

Contemporary brown morocco presentation binding, titles and ruling to spine and upper board and top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. In the original brown cloth slipcase. A fine copy. Of Unicornes Hornes was first published as Chapter XXIII in Browne's PSEUDODOXIA EPDEMICA in 1646. It was "corrected and much enlarged by the author" in 1650, and the Cheloniidea Pressâ?? production incorporates this latter text. Fine.

The etching was pulled by Lynn Rogan of the Printmaking Workshop. The four additional illustrations were printed on Misu paper at The Meriden Gravure Company. The title page calligraphy is by Jerry Kelly. All copies were signed by both Mamet and Koren on the colophon. Bound in orange cloth stamped in frog-green, hand-made endpapers by Gerard Charriere. Mamet, a leading American playwright and Pulitzer Prize winner, has given the reader a witty and touching play which is perfectly represented by Koren's familiar hairy monster people usually gracing the pages of "The New Yorker Magazine."         MIAMI BLUES - UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY, INSCRIBED BY ELMORE LEONARD

St. Martin's Press, New York 1984 - Octavo; dark yellow wrappers printed in black; 190pp. Inscribed by Leonard on the half-title page: "To Ian Clark / from a friend of Chas. Willeford / Elmore Leonard." Trifle wear to extremities, slight upward life to front wrapper, with faint spotting to rear wrapper; Very Good+ to Near Fine. Scarce uncorrected proof copy of Willeford's first Hoke Moseley novel. Though Willeford's career started in the late 1940's, fame came to him later in life, and that fame was brought about by the publication of 'Miami Blues.' Among the highest advance praise for his novel came from Elmore Leonard, who wrote: "Willeford, writing with quiet authority, has the ability to make his situations, scenes, dialogue, sound absolutely real. No one writes a better crime novel than Charles Willeford." A uniquely-inscribed copy by one of Willeford's earliest advocates, and the only proof copy we have seen for this title. Basis for the 1990 George Armitage film starring Alec Baldwin, Fred Ward, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

        Viaggio in Italia

Alessandria: Il Quadrante, 1984. Prima edizione (First Edition). broch con risvolti (soft covers with flaps). Ottimo (Fine). 8vo. Volume pubblicato in occasione della mostra alla Pinacoteca Provinciale di Bari del 1984. Fotografie a colori di Barbieri, Basilico, Battistella, Castella, Cavazzuti, Chiaramonte, Cresci, Fossati, Garzia, Guidi, Ghirri, Hill, Jodice, Leone, Nori, Sartorello, Tinelli, Tuliozi, Ventura, White. Aggiungo. Non solo in Italia. Da molti anni" (A.C. Quintavalle)

        The Road to Serfdom

Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1984. The 40th Anniversary of the economist's classic work. Signed by F.A. Hayek. One of 200 signed numbered copies. Octavo, full morocco. Gilt titles and tooling to the spine, front and rear panels with double-line gilt ruled borders, all edges gilt. In fine condition without wear. Hayek has written one of the most important books of our generation. It restates for our time the issue between liberty and authority with the power and rigor of reasoning that John Stuart Mill stated …in his great essay, 'On Liberty'" (Hazlitt, 82). [I]n my opinion it is a grand book. . . . Morally and philosophically I find myself in agreement with virtually the whole of it: and not only in agreement with it, but in deeply moved agreement" (John Maynard Keynes). The Road To Serfdom placed fourth on the list of the 100 best non-fiction books of the twentieth century by National Review magazine.
