Fifty Years Adrift [Deluxe, and only, edition]

Genesis Publications, 1984. Limited Numbered First Edition. Leather & Cloth Boards. Fine/No Jacket as Issued. A beautiful full leather Limited Numbered First Edition signed by former Beatle George Harrison and author Derek Taylor. Numbered 1026 of only 2,000 Limited Editions, the only edition of this book. Bound in brown half-calf and brown cloth; title in gilt letters on red background, gilt line decoration on the calf and front cover sailing-ship design; all page edges are gold gilt. All in fine unread condition in a matching brown cloth slipcase that is also in fine condition. This is Derek Taylor's colorful autobiography, packed with glorious pieces of memorabilia from his early days as a journalist, to his term as Beatles publicist and great friend and beyond. Written by Derek Taylor and edited and annotated by George Harrison, it is a lasting testament to the genius, wit and insight of two great men. An early working title had been 'And We All Shine On' but the title was finally taken from a Liverpudlian expression. FIFTY YEARS ADRIFT was the subject of glowing reviews including a fabulous one in The New York Times, while The Beatles Book Monthly described it as, 'Probably the best Beatles-related volume ever'. A beautiful set.

29 Plakate in teils mehrfarbigem Offsetdruck der Edition Staeck.

Göttingen, Steidl 1984-92. - Gr.-Folio. Lose. - 2. Doppelt genäht hält besser - Aids ist keine Strafe Gottes. - 3. Porträt Umweltminister Töpfer (CDU). - 4. Wir rufen die Jugend der Welt. - 5. Unfeine Behandlung nach Dr. h.c. Franz Josef Strauss. - 6. Umwelt schützen - den Kohl abwählen. - 7. Mann der Arbeit aufgewacht. - 8. In Niedersachsen läuft alles wie geschmiert - Ihre CDU. - 9. Die Sozis können eben nicht mit Geld umgehen. - 10. Die Robben sind tot. Der Nächste bitte! - 11. Die Bundesrepublik ist für mehr Demonstrationen. - 12. Schöne Aussichten. - 13. Das erste Gift. - 14. Berlin! Wir haben die Korruption wieder wählbar gemacht. - 15. F. J. Strauss kommt! - 16. An alle Mieter! Jetzt können Sie endlich wählen zwischen Mieterhöhung und Kündigung. - 17. Früh übt sich, wer als Held sterben will. - 18. Verteidigt die Republik. - 19. Wir Computer fordern Vollbeschäftigung. - 20. Ich bin der geistige Führer in diesem unseren krisengeschüttelten Land. - 21. Verteidigt die Kultur gegen Zensur - für Meinungsfreiheit. - 22.         Um Úrnat frá Björk - Handmade Original Book

A very rare Icelandic fairy tale and poetry book written and produced by Björk in 1984 when she was a teenager. 16 pp., folded paper with pictures and poetic text, with handwritten text and outlines printed in facsimile, extensively illustrated in original watercolor and colored pencils entirely in Björk's hand, this example also signed and inscribed by Björk on the first page in blue ink. Acquired directly by our consignor from Björk in downtown Reykjavík when she was a young girl selling these on the corner, just on the threshold of world stardom. The text is a story/poem of Björk's fantasy beings, some of whom later appeared in other of her texts. A few small stains to the cover and scattered small impressions to the pages, otherwise in fine condition. Other examples of this book, apparently existing in fewer than 100 copies total, each uniquely illustrated, were recently displayed in the 2015 Björk exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, NY. No copies recorded by Worldcat and none to our knowledge in the trade.

Specimens of Polynesian Tapa Assembled from Various Institutions and Private Collections

San Francisco: privately published, 1984. Folio folder comprising introductory text booklet of 40 pages, inventory list, botanical specimen sheet and illustrations followed by 33 tapa samples in individual loose letterpress folders; an excellent copy with original cloth and folding goatskin portfolio; errata, handling instructions and gloves included as issued. Rare limited edition of the most ambitious modern project to preserve historical tapa samples from across the Pacific in a deluxe privately-printed edition. The tapa samples were contributed by private collectors and institutions, including the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, the Alexander Brody collection in Switzerland and the estate of General Horatio Robley of Moko fame. Some of the tapa has illustrious provenance, such as material taken to England by Queen Emma of Hawaii in 1865. The geographical scope of the material assembled is astonishing, with specimens from Hawaii, Fiji, Futuna, Marquesas, Mangareva, Pitcairn Island, Rarotonga, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga. This is number 32 of a total of 95 copies; however, not all copies contain the same number of samples, unsurprising given the variable quantities of the antique tapa available for the project. Sets numbered 1 to 12 in the series contained 40 tapa samples each; those numbered 13-35 each contain 33 examples, and so on in descending order. As the list of subscribers indicates, most of the first twelve sets reside in institutional collections, making the most complete state of Severson's Specimens of Polynesian Tapa effectively unobtainable. Indeed, all states are rare and we are aware of only two other examples to have appeared on the market in the past two decades. Each of the tapa samples is housed in a separate folder with information relating to its provenance and history, including a photographic plate reproducing the sheet in its entirety prior to dissection. Aside from the salient historical importance of the portfolio, it is a beautiful example of recent letterpress printing, with all the various parts being entirely typeset by hand by Andrew Hoyem and printed on handmade Italian paper at the Arion Press in 1984.

It anticipates by five years some of his 1989 Central Atrium and Floor Plan & Section sketches for the striking, circle and square central tower design of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), his acclaimed first U.S. commission, final plans-1990, open to the public-1995. Fine condition.Accompanied by a photocopy of the letter which accompanied this document from Governor Clinton to Mr. A.L. Lockhart, Director, Arkansas Department of Correction, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The document, in part, ""Whereas Darryl W. Richley was duly presented under proper proceedings to the Circuit Court of Benton County, Arkansas, on a charge of Capital Murder, and, after being tried in that Court by a duly empaneled jury, was found guilty and his sentence and punishment fixed at death by electrocution; and Whereas the conviction having been appealed to the Supreme Court of Arkansas; and, upon review of this case, the judgment and sentence of the Circuit Court of Benton County, Arkansas, was affirmed…""Now, Therefore, I, Bill Clinton, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me by law as Governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby set June 29, 1984, between the hours of sunrise and sunset as the day and date upon which the Commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Correction will carry into effect the judgment and sentence of the Benton County Circuit Court by executing the said Darryl V. Richley at the place and in the manner prescribed by law…""Three men and a fourth defendant were tried together and convicted of killing a contractor, Donald Lehman, on January 9, 1981, in a robbery at his home in Rogers, Arkansas. At the time, Richley was 29 years old. All four were sentenced to death but the sentence for the fourth man, Michael Orndorff, was struck down in 1990; he was then sentenced to life in prison. The constitutionality of the joint trial was one of the issues argued during more than 12 years of appeals. After numerous appeals, including the U.S. Supreme Court which rejected arguments they were treated like ""hogs at a slaughter,"" on August 3, 1994, Darryl V. Richley, now 43, Hoyt Clines, 37, and James Holmes, 37, were each injected with a fatal mixture of chemicals. "
