Five large vinyl-covered photograph albums (each approximately 400 x 330 x 70 mm) containing approximately 2400 colour photographs of buildings in Adelaide (city and suburbs) and nearby country towns

Internal evidence suggests they were taken in the mid- to late-1990s by someone with a passion for South Australia's colonial architecture, from workman's cottage to squatter's castle, as well as the more commonly recorded churches and public buildings. Although this extensive gallery of our built environs is not yet twenty years old, it is already looking in parts like a revised edition of Michael Burden's 1983 classic work, 'Lost Adelaide'. The photographs (either 100 x 160 mm or 95 x 150 mm) are in very fine condition, easily removable from the album leaves (hopefully they are indeed 'acid free card with alkaline glue and polypropylene overlays'). The places depicted in each album are noted in order on adhesive labels on the front covers, there are many visual clues to what and where is pictured, and samples taken at random from each volume indicate that a percentage of the prints are captioned on the verso in ink, presumably by the photographer, who unfortunately remains anonymous. In addition, there are also approximately 185 reproductions of early black and white photographs, 35 commercial colour (postcard) photographs and 30 miscellaneous photographs (including a few of people, which may lead to the identity of the photographer).

Windy Point [Original Serigraph Signed and Numbered by Earl Biss]

Earl Biss, 1983. Limited Edition. Serigraph. Very good. Earl Biss, 1983. Limited Edition. Serigraph. "My paintings might suggest a harmony of man and nature, a combining of rigid line and free flowing spontaneity, bubbling with rich color with the disciplined design of the hard edge technique. I am not concerned with capturing the outward image of nature, but rather those powers or forces of nature which play such an important part or basis for the way things are. A concept of reality drawn from spontaneous abstractions, and controlled with the subtlety I wield as the creator." -Earl Biss, 1995. Earl Biss. Original serigraph. Measures 31 inches by 28 inches. Signed by Biss in upper right corner; numbered, titled and dated along lower edge (also has artist blind-stamp near date). There is a 1 ¼ inch tear at the left edge. Overall very good.

The Colour Of Magic (Signed By Colin Smythe)

The First UK Printing published by Colin Smythe (Gerrards Cross) in 1983. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition. Original green covers with gilt tiling to the spine. A little fading to the spine, corners and upper edges in places. Mild pushing at the spine ends. A slight lean is present. Textblock is lightly toned and spotted but the pages remain clean. There is a little easing of the hinge at the title page with just the beginning of exposure of some of the webbing. The binding remains tight. There is a previous owner's bookplate (unfilled) to the front upper end paper (see images). One corner of this bookplate has slightly lifted and there is underneath, evidence of a previous owner's inscription in green ink. There are NO stamps, erasures or other markings to suggest that this has ever been a library copy. Two WRAPPERs are present for this title. Both are originals and are in Very Good condition with edge-wear , rubbing and a little loss at the spine ends. Some creasing and a few closed tears are present (see images). Both have a little staining to the verso which is just about discernible to the upper rear cover of one of the wrappers (the one with the additional blurb). Both wrappers are unpriced. Both wrappers are protected in removable Brodart archival covers. The book has been signed on the the title page by Colin Smythe (the Publisher). The book was typeset in the UK, but printed in the USA through St Martin's Press, as at that time printing costs were cheaper there than in the UK. There were only just over 500 copies printed (with 400 copies of these thought to have ended up in libraries). Colin Smythe did not like the blurb St Martin's Press printed on the front flap of the wrappers and so most copies were covered over by a blurb more to his liking. One of the two wrappers present with this copy has the blurb present whilst the other is the much scarcer wrapper which escaped this process. A very scarce title - the first in the 'Discworld' series. We have not handled a copy with such attributes before especially with the signature of Colin Smythe. Collectible. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Nashville, Tennessee: O.T.O, 1983. First Thus . Soft cover. Near Fine. Being the Oriflame Vol. VI, No. 3...originally conceived as a series of letters answering questions from beginners on Magick, mysticism, the work of occult orders, the techniques of the Masters, & the philosophy of Thelema." Orig. published in 1954 by Karl J. Germer, Crowley's successor (he had died in 1947) as Outer Head of the O.T.O. (Society Ordo Templi Orientis International), Germer died mysteriously in 1962, naming Marcelo Motta as his successor, though he did not learn of his status for 11 years, during which time Crowley's works were "shamelessly pirated" by Francis Regardie. The present volume represents the Original uncut version of this book, with 15,000 words that had been excised completely restored. It also contains commentary by Motta, as well as an essay, "Intelligence Services are Not Intelligent,'' which details the history of the O.T.O. since its founder's death & various attempts (eg, by the CIA & the Vatican) to destroy the Order. Published on 22 Dec. 1983, it is the First Printing of this new unexpurgated edition (First, Thus), & the condition is Fantastic!         Michael Jackson and Freddie Starr. The Brits. 08/02/1983.

745 x 520mm. Giclée Print using Archival pigment inks on Hahnemüle Fine Art Pearl 285gsm paper. Limited edition of 10 numbered copies signed by the photographer. Alan Davidson is a press photographer based in London for more than 30 years, Alan has photographed the rich, the famous, the before-they-were-famous to those that have fallen from grace. Going through his vast archive, with new treasures found within the old brown manilla envelopes, reads like a who's who of the great and good (and the very bad) of London society. Cinema stars rub shoulders with pop stars, royalty with politicians. Working from the late 1960s to the present day Alan remembers the days before celebrities became surrounded by 30 young publicists and before there were 50 photographers at every event you went to, allowing him to take intimate and relaxed portraits, unlike the anodyne syndicated press shots of today.

        Ryukyu Kobujutsu Vol. 1 (Jookan)

Inbunden bok. Tredje upplagan uppl. 1983. 596 s. Inbunden. Mycket gott skick.

Hollywood Africans in front of the Chinese Theater with Footprints of Movie Stars

      - 23-Colour Screenprint, 1983/2015, on 4-ply Museum Board, edition of 60, published by Flatiron Editions. The release marks the first edition authorized by the estate since 2005, Edition of 60, The posthumous release is stamped and signed by Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux, the artist's sisters and administrators of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the full sheet, 38 ½ x 84 inches (97.79 x 213.36 cm). The edition of 60, which is related to the widely known 1983 artwork Hollywood Africans, owned by the Whitney Museum of American Art, depicts Basquiat with friends, the artists Toxic and Rammellzee. The subject of the work memorializes a time when all three artists were in Los Angeles during Basquiat's second exhibition at the Larry Gagosian Gallery. The work, a commentary on the stereotyping and marginalizing of African Americans in the entertainment industry, led them to coin the term and refer to themselves as the "Hollywood Africans." Equal parts poet and painter, Basquiat challenged the art world binary of high and low, merging European and "primitive" through a neo-expressionist, painterly style that is nearly impossible to categorize. The posthumous release is stamped and signed by Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux, the artist's sisters and administrators of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 22, 1960. He began his career making street art composed of enigmatic writings on buildings and walls in downtown Manhattan in the late 1970s. His work quickly rose to the spotlight, and by the early 1980s he gained the attention and acclaim of galleries and museums internationally. In what is often classified as a neoexpressionist style, Basquiat drew on social and political themes like systematic racism, identity politics and commodity culture. The artist died at the age of 27 on August 12, 1988 in his studio on Great Jones Street in New York City. Major exhibitions include "Jean-Michel Basquiat: Paintings 1981–1984," Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh (1984; traveled to Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, through 1985); Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover (1987, 1989); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (1993; traveled to Menil Collection, Houston; Des Moines Art Center, Iowa; and Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, Alabama, through 1994); "Basquiat," Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York (2005; traveled to Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through 2006); and Fondation Beyeler, Basel, Switzerland (2010; traveled to Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris); and "Now is the Time" at the Art Gallery of Ontario (2015; traveled to the Guggenheim Bilbao in 2015).
