        Amazon Parrots.

London: Rodolphe d'Erlanger/The Basilisk Press, 1983. - LOW, Rosemary - BUTTERWORTH, Elizabeth. Amazon Parrots. London: Rodolphe d'Erlanger/The Basilisk Press, 1983. Folio (17 x 13 6/8 inches). Frontispiece and 27 EXCEPTIONALLY FINE color plates, tipped-in, after paintings by Butterworth, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with an original hand-coloured etching by Butterworth, matted and loosely inserted. Original red silk over boards; preserved in a black cloth clamshell box with printed paper label on the spine (box a bit dusty). AS NEW. LIMITED EDITION, number 31 of 100 numbered copies signed by the author and illustrator, accompanied by an original hand-coloured etching by Butterworth, of a total edition of 515. Rosemary Low is one of the world's premier experts on the care and conservation of parrots. Elizabeth Butterworth "is not the first British artist to succeed in capturing on paper the brilliant plumage of Macaws, but with Edward Lear she must be considered one of the best. Certainly she is without rival this century. Her success stems partly from intense powers of observation and party from an encyclopaedic knowledge of her subject. She has bred Macaws, looked after them, fed them and listened to their noisy antics from the first call of the morning to the last shriek at night. She has sketched them in the privacy of her back garden and in their natural state in the rain forests of South America. She has examined the skins of dead birds in natural history museums in London and New York and she could tell you the number of feathers in a tail and the size of a beak to the nearest millimetre. "It is this attention to detail combined with powers of observation that lifts her prints, watercolours and drawings from plain description into the realms of high art. Although she belongs to a distinguished ornithological tradition in which British artists like John Gould and Archibald Thorburn have excelled, she seems closer to a watercolourist like Edward Lear who can be appreciated as an artist on his own level and whose work appeals to collectors who do not know a Macaw from a Toucan. Her realism has surreal or super-real quality, and it is this aspect of her work which caught the eye of critics and curators on both sides of the Atlantic (and in Australia) and which has led to her work being exhibited alongside that by other contemporary artists in prestigious shows in New York, including the survey of contemporary art held at the Museum of Modern Art in 1984" (Elizabeth Butterworth online).         Five large vinyl-covered photograph albums (each approximately 400 x 330 x 70 mm) containing approximately 2400 colour photographs of buildings in Adelaide (city and suburbs) and nearby country towns

      - Internal evidence suggests they were taken in the mid- to late-1990s by someone with a passion for South Australia's colonial architecture, from workman's cottage to squatter's castle, as well as the more commonly recorded churches and public buildings. Although this extensive gallery of our built environs is not yet twenty years old, it is already looking in parts like a revised edition of Michael Burden's 1983 classic work, 'Lost Adelaide'. The photographs (either 100 x 160 mm or 95 x 150 mm) are in very fine condition, easily removable from the album leaves (hopefully they are 'acid free card with alkaline glue and polypropylene overlays'). The places depicted in each album are noted in order on adhesive labels on the front covers, there are many visual clues to what and where is pictured, and samples taken at random from each volume indicate that a percentage of the prints are captioned on the verso in ink, presumably by the photographer, who unfortunately remains anonymous. In addition, there are also approximately 185 reproductions of early black and white photographs, 35 commercial colour (postcard) photographs and 30 miscellaneous photographs (including a few of people, which may lead to the identity of the photographer).         In the Spirit of Crazy Horse

(n.p.): (n.d.). (1983). A samizdat edition of his controversial and suppressed book about the confrontation between American Indian activists and the FBI in the early Seventies at Pine Ridge Reservation near Wounded Knee that left two federal agents and one Indian dead, and resulted in AIM activist Leonard Peltier being imprisoned for life, convicted of the agents' murder in a case that Matthiessen describes as rife with government malfeasance. Matthiessen, his publisher, and even some bookstores who had stocked the book were the targets of lawsuits brought by two government officials who claimed they were slandered by the hard-hitting book, which made no bones about its advocacy of the Indians' case. Until a landmark Supreme Court decision upholding Matthiessen's (and Viking's) First Amendment rights, the book was shelved with remaining copies of it being pulped; paperback publication, as well as foreign publication, were blocked for nearly a decade. A significant volume, both for the incendiary nature of its content, as well as the First Amendment battle surrounding its publication and suppression. Pirated during the nine years that the book was unavailable through normal channels. Plain white printed wrappers, with just the title and author indicated; comb-bound in an acetate cover. This copy is from the library of Peter Matthiessen. A significant edition of an important book in the history of First Amendment cases. Fine. First Edition. Softcover.

1983 LAST STARFIGHTER Original Draft SCREENPLAY - FILM EDITOR'S COPY - Seth ROGEN & SPIELBERG want REMAKE RIGHTS

1983 - THE LAST STARFIGHTER - ORIGINAL DRAFT SCREENPLAY dated April 8, 1983. The FILM EDITOR'S COPY, with White, Yellow, Blue, Pink, and Green Pages (a "Rainbow" Draft) with pages revised on 4/18, 5/2, 5/9 and 5/23/83. THE LAST STARFIGHTER was one of the first films to make extensive use of CGI animation (Computer Generated Imagery) and has become a very INFLUENTIAL CULT FILM. Both SETH ROGEN and STEVEN SPIELBERG have been trying to acquire rights to remake the film. The screenplay is by JONATHAN BETUEL, who holds all rights. The film was Directed by Nick Castle. It stars Lance Guest, Dan O'Herlihy, and Robert Preston (the Music Man) in his final film role. ***COPY of the FILM'S EDITOR, CARROLL TIMOTHY O'MEARA, 1943-2007. His SIGNATURE "Tim OMeara" is on the front cover. His name is also written at the top of each of the first colored pages (page 2, yellow; page 4, blue; page 5 pink; page 64A, green). I am not certain if Tim O'Meara's name on the colored pages is also his signature, or if his name was written there by a film production member in order that the various revised pages be delivered directly to him. Below his name on the green page 64A is written "today", perhaps indicated that this revised page had to be immediately rushed to him. There are some handwritten marks and notations on pages 46-48 that are presumably in Tim O'Meara's hand. This script came from the estate of Timothy O'Meara.*** Blue heavy stock paper covers, printed title on the front cover, three hole punched, bound with 3 brass brads. The first page, the title page, is YELLOW. It shows various revision dates and states that the script is the property of LORIMAR and that copying and reproduction is prohibited. The inner pages are photocopied on 8.5x11" paper (photocopying was, and still is, how original copies of a shooting script were quickly produced and distributed to film producers, directors, editors and others involved in a motion picture production), pages are printed on one side only and 3-hole punched at their left margin, 130 pages plus some "A" and "B" pages (e.g. 64, 64A) plus the title page. The pages are white, yellow, blue, pink and green, with the colored pages all having a revised date printed at the top of the page. There are 30 BLUE PAGES, revised 4/18/83; 41 PINK PAGES, revised 5/2/83; 22 YELLOW PAGES, revised 5/9/83; and ONE GREEN PAGE, revised 5/23/83; the remaining pages are white. On the rear page edges (the spine) is hand-written "STARFIGHTER". VERY GOOD condition, the covers have tears around their 3 punched holes, are pulling from the brass brads, and have some creases from handling, but remain bright and solid; internally, the upper corner of the last page is torn off, not affecting text, otherwise the pages are complete, bright, clean and clear. THE LAST STARFIGHTER is an influential cult classic. Both Seth Rogen and Steven Spielberg, among others, have tried repeatedly to acquire the rights to either remake the film or make a sequel. To this point the screenwriter, Jonathan Betuel, who holds the film rights, has refused. (Google Search: Steven Spielberg "The Last Starfighter"; or Google Search: Seth Rogen "The Last Starfighter").
