1982. Condition: Very Good. AUTHOR : PHILIP K. DICK TITLE : THE TRANSMIGRATION OF TIMOTHY ARCHER Publisher : Timescape / Simon and Schuster, 1982 These are the author's galleys of the first edition of this excellent novel by Philip K. Dick, which is the last one that he completed before his death in March 1982. The novel was published two months later, in May 1982. The unbound sheets measure 8.5" x 14" and have been folded in half. Twenty sheets are missing, perhaps because the author made corrections and then mailed them back to the publisher. Included are the letter from the publisher to the author and the original mailing envelope. Accompanying these galleys is the carbon copy of a two-page typed letter from Dick to Russell Galen, his agent at the Scott Meredith Literary Agency. This letter does not appear in The Selected Letters of Philip K. Dick. Because this is the copy that Dick retained for his files, the letter is not signed. In the letter, Dick lists multiple corrections to be made to his manuscript. I have not attempted to confirm whether the corrections enumerated by Dick in his letter correspond to the missing galley sheets because I did not want to handle the galleys to the degree necessary. It may be that the corrections refer to the page numbers of the manuscript rather than of these galleys. Also included is the sender's copy of the Express Mail shipping label used to send the selected pages for the corrections to Galen, which Dick retained together with his copy of the cover letter. The shipping label has been printed in Dick's hand. If you have any questi … [Click Below for Full Description]

JACOBI, Lotte; Cornell Capa, intro.
Countryman Press, 1982. First Edition. Slim octavo (21.5cm.); original plain card wrappers in photo-illustrated dust jacket; 47pp.; chiefly photographic illus. throughout. Inscribed and signed on title page: "For George / Best / Lotte / December 1982." Together with two original photographic postcards of Einstein, both captioned "Prof. Albert Einstein" and signed by Jacobi in image with short autograph notes signed to Wald on versos. Photographs presumably taken on the same day, ca. 1950, as Einstein is sporting the same deeply unbottoned white polo shirt. The first image shows Einstein standing in a small sailboat, just the arm and nose of a female companion visible to the left of him. The second image is a close-up portrait of Einstein in white sunhat and pipe. Book inscription and both postcards addressed to George Wald, who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1967 for his work with pigments in the retina and advancements made in the study of vision. The process, which began in 1978, of conceptualizing, developing, and creating The Plain of Smokes, has been described by many, including its author, as the true definition of the word "collaboration." Mudd and Price continually motivated revision in each other's work, resulting in a thought-provoking visualization of the dialogue between two artists. Arabesque Books asked Gary Lichtenstein of SOMA Fine Art Press in San Francisco to print Price's multilayered paintings featuring pencil, gouache, watercolor, and india ink for the book" (Mana Contemporary exhibit). Jose Saramago
Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1982. Advance reading copy by Nobel Prize winning author, his first novel to appear in US. Near Fine condition. SIGNED on the half title page by Jose Saramago. The New York Times Book Review has said that Baltasar and Blimunda "[m]uch reverberates in memory after reading this enchanting novel, but most of all the love story which soars over the rest of the action like a flute above a heavy orchestra. Mr. Saramago, a writer of sharp intelligence, keeps this love story under strict control, free of pathos or sentimentality. It is of, and on, the earth." Indeed, "Saramago has produced a novel that is deeply imbedded in the history of his land yet moves in mystical realms. It is a romance and an adventure, a rumination on royalty and religion in 18th century Portugal and a bitterly ironic comment on the uses of power" (Walter Goodman, The New York Times).
