        Terrors (Signed by Stephen King)

Playboy Paperbacks 1982 - New York City, New York: Playboy Paperbacks (1982). Terrors by Charles L. Grant. Soft cover. pp. 224. First Edition. First Printing. Warmly Inscribed By Stephen King, Charles L. Grant, and Alan Ryan in Month of Publication To Family Friend. Contains World's First Appearance Of Stephen King's "Survivor Type" Book Condition: Near-Fine in illustrated wrappers with slight 2" crease on cover. Unread Collector's Grade Copy. Necon: July, 1982 At the Third Annual Camp Necon (Northeastern Writers' Conference), Stephen King was the Roastee Victim, Jill Bauman was the Artist Guest of Honor, and Alan Ryan was the Master of Ceremonies. Steve was sitting at Don Grant's table in the Book Room, which was starting to become the thing of legends. Don was preparing to publish his King limited "The Gunslinger", and to kill two birds with one stone, Steve was signing the signature sheets while talking to attendees. It was here that he graciously handed #1 to Dick and Jeanie (owners of this particular book), as they were all friends with each other, and since Dick ran the Book Room Exhibit at the time. "Survivor Type" is a short story by Stephen King, that was first seen in print in this edition. It was later collected in King's 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew". It tells the story of a disgraced surgeon stranded on a deserted island with no food and only a handful of supplies. He must go to great lengths to stay alive for rescue that may never come. "As far as short stories are concerned, I like the grisly ones the best. However, the story "Survivor Type" goes a little bit too far, even for me. - Stephen King In 2012, Director Billy Hanson released a short, 30 minute film to rave reviews.         Traité de l'acupuncture, ou zin-king des Chinois et des Japonais; ouvrage destiné a faire connaître la valeur médicale de cette opération, et a donner les documens nécessaires pour la pratiquer.Paris, Crevot (back of half-title: De Lebel), 1825. 8vo. Modern paper boards, green title-label on spine.

      - Wellcome, p. 347; cf. Garrison & Morton 6374.14; Waller 1982. First edition of the French translation of Churchill's Treatise on Acupuncturation, the first English monograph on acupuncture, first published in 1821. The ancient practice of acupuncture gained devotees among French doctors beginning with Dujardin in 1774, after French missionaries had learned about it in China and Japan. Churchill's account aroused a wider interest in the practice, and the French translation by R. Charbonnier, was perhaps even more influential than the English original. With a contemporary owner's inscription on title-page. A minor restoration to the upper margin of the half-title and a small marginal water stain on the first 6 leaves. Overall a good copy of one of the earliest western accounts of acupuncture.

Each part limited to 226 copies of which these are one of 200 numbered copies (numbers 124, 117 and 114 respectively) each signed by King. A presentation set, each booklet having a warm signed inscription by King to Michelle [i.e. Michele] Slung with the second volume inscription quite lengthy.
