These qualities in themselves signify courage because there were few - even among Minor's closest associates and friends - willing to deal seriously with such intangibles. Minor's mysticism, however, was neither occult nor sentimental. It was a search for intelligence that goes beyond the ordinary dimensions of daily life. In an unpublished manuscript written in 1969, the year this book was first issued, Minor wrote: Consciousness in photography comes out of an awakening to the interlocking interconnectedness of everything, from atoms to suns, space to time, light to dark, event to situation, man to Man, and Man to God." A superb fine clean bright and tight copy with one tiny bump to the top edge. Scarce.         Die Cosmographia des Claudius Ptolemaeus 1472/3

Besler and Johnson,, Zurich & New York 1982 - Superb facsimile of the Vatican's Ptolemy Cosmographia of 1472 Folio atlas (620 by 460mm), 135pp., [2] leaves, full colour facsimile reproduction of the Vatican Codex Urb. Lat. 277., full blind tooled calf with gilt centrepiece, brass centre and corner pieces, leather clasps. Superb facsimile of Ptolemy's Cosmographia, published by the Vatican. The original manuscript was commissioned by the Duke of Urbino in 1472/3, and came into the Vatican Library in 1657. In 1983 the Vatican Library published 550 facsimiles; 500 of which were meant for sale and fifty - each marked with a Roman numeral I-L - to be kept by the Library, for use as state gifts. The present copy is marked with the Roman numerals 'VII'. One such example was presented by Pope Benedict XVI to Christian Wulff, the President of Germany, during his Apostolic visit to Germany, on the 22nd September 2011. The press release that accompanied the gift gives a general history of the work:"This facsimile reproduces the manuscript containing the Latin translation of the Greek text (version "A") of the Geographia by Claudius Ptolemy (2nd century AD), performed by Iacopo Angeli da Scarperia (around 1360-1410). The title Cosmographia, which seemed the most appropriate to the author, was based on choices made by other Latin authors for similar works (the reasons why are explained in folio 2v).Together with other, similar specimens this magnificent manuscript documents the rediscovery and positive reappraisal during the Renaissance of Ptolemy's cartographic oeuvre, as a synthesis of Hellenistic culture and a recognised milestone in the representation of the earth, unique among its kind in terms of the wealth of theoretical and practical information it provides on the topic. The codex was transcribed in Florence in an elegant, humanist script by Hugues Commineau (Ugo Comminelli) de Mézières (see colophon folio 70r; in abridged form folio 122r), the same copyist of the splendid Bible of Urbino (Urb. Lat. 1-2). Pietro del Massaio and Francesco Rosselli were also involved in its production: both were well known as illuminators thanks to their workshops, which were specialised in the manufacture of maps and geographical works. The embellishment is valuable; this begins with the title page (folio 1v), which contains a sumptuously enframed reference to the title and the translator in gold on a blue background; the incipit of the translator's foreword (folio 2r) is decorated along the edges with gold and coloured borders comprised of flowers, putti with candelabras (also a recurrent motif in the initials of the text) and medallions, plus an illumination showing the translator presenting the work to Pope Alexander V (wrongly identified as Alexander III). The incipit of each book includes delightful initials painted in miniature; colourful frames embellish the introductory texts to the maps that follow. The text is divided into eight books. Book I (folios 3r-13r) explains the theoretical concept of 'geographia' and methods for designing maps; books II-VII (folios 13r-69r) contain information on the names of towns and cities, countries, regions and peoples of the world together with their coordinates; book VIII (folios 69r-70r) details the number of maps and provinces for each continent, and includes short descriptions and data on the main cities etc. These books are followed by the 27 maps traditionally ascribed to Ptolemy: the entire world as it was then known (folios 72v-73r), then 10 maps of Europe (folios 74v-92r; Germany is on folio 80r), 4 maps of Africa (92v-100r), 12 of Asia (100v-121r). Then come seven non-traditional maps or 'novae' (folios 122v-129r), and 10 city- and townscapes (folios 129v-135r). The sequence is determined by a practical cartographic criterion. The more than 8,000 locations named are entered in a grid of longitudes and latitudes, which Ptolemy is the first to use in the modern sense. The codex belonged to the library of Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino (14

Autograph Letter Signed ("Art + Francoise") to S. Clay Wilson with a Drawing by Spiegelman

      - Octavo. Letter to S. Clay Wilson. Undated but 1982. Folded for mailing, else fine. The left-hand side of the page consists of a Spiegelman drawing of a man with a head made from a sticker for his magazine *Raw*. The text of the letter in full: "Hi Wiltz Herewith Rawz. Going to Yurrp til Sept. 2. then Raw 4. If you wanna show us stuff that might be appropriate. deadline, September 10. Have a good summer. All the best, Art + Francoise." The drawing and full text of the letter are in the hand of Spiegelman, except for the signature of Francoise. In 1975 Spiegelman and Bill Griffin founded the comic *Arcade* which featured the work of artists like Wilson and R. Crumb. Spiegelman and his wife Francoise Mouly founded *Raw* in 1980, and though it was relatively short lived it was extremely influential.         Roland Deschain Cycle: Gunslinger; Drawing Three; Waste Lands; Wizard & Glass; Wolves Calla; Song Susannah; Dark Tower; Little Sister of Eluria; Wind Through Keyhole -12 Volumes - all # 433 -book I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII Plus Eluria ( Wastelands )

West Kingston, RI and Hampton Falls, NH: Donald M Grant, 1982, 1987, 1991, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2004, 2008, 2012, 1st Edition, 1st Printing for All, All are # 433 of the Signed, Slipcased Limited Editions - -----------12 volumes for the 9 book series, hardcovers, all are Fine copies in Fine dustjackets, these look new but close, close inspection MIGHT reveal TINY marks to a jacket but honestly these are incredibly sharp copies and virtually as issued, WIZARD, CALLA and TOWER are two-volume sets as issued ( thus 12 volumes for the 9 book series ), all books have been SIGNED by KING and the artist for that volume (although WIZARD, CALLA and TOWER have book ONE of each two-volume set signed and numbered only), all are # 433 of the limited editions, so all are signed and numbered with the same # -433, all housed in Near Fine/Fine slipcases, a couple of slipcases have a wee bit of very light rubbing and a bit of fading along edges from a bit of sunning, The Wind Through the Keyhole is still in shrinkwrap and is therefore Very Fine, this is the complete GUNSLINGER / ROLAND DESCHAIN series with the first 7 books comprising the bulk of the story, ELURIA contains a story about Roland and the Man in Black which pre-dates (in story, not publication) the GUNSLINGER (about 90 pages), as well ELURIA contains an expanded version of The GUNSLINGER, KING has written about this expanded edition ---"What I did want to do was to give newcomers to the tale of the Tower (and old readers who want to refresh their memories) a clearer start and a slightly easier entry into Roland’s world. I also wanted them to have a volume that more effectively foreshadowed coming events. "---, KEYHOLE is the newest addition to the cycle having been released in 2012, you are likely never to see another set like this offered, ---apparently RON HOWARD is going to film the Gunslinger as a movie which will be followed by a major television series production, a movie project that will surely result in a new round of interest in this extremely popular book series, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
