A superb copy in the price-clipped dust jacket. First edition, first printing of one of Gould's most famous and controversial books. Here he analyses craniometry and IQ testing to point out the unconscious biases and a priori assumptions built into much "scientific" research. Though researchers recently made the case that Gould was incorrect about one aspect of the book's argument, it still stands as an important indictment of biological determinism and a lucid reminder that those engaged in research of any type must be aware of their own privilege and biases. A superb copy, rare in such beautiful condition.

Deitch animated and directed the 1987 cartoon adaptation of Sendak's, classic children's picture book: In the Night Kitchen. The film faithfully preserved Sendak's classic illustrations, with Peter Schickele's narration, and original musical compositions. Produced by Weston Woods for Scholastic in 1973. The plot of this book: Mickey falls asleep and dreams of falling into the "night kitchen," where he is nearly baked into a cake, makes a plane out of bread, and flies off to get milk. A collectible piece of Sendak memorabilia.

Intricately cut from one sheet of paper. Few separations and light water stains. Housed in mahogany frame. It is accompanied by a silk punch paper sampler bookmark depicting a rose and the name John Ripley. The punch work measures 2 1/4? x 5?. The bookmark was found in the family Bible, 1857. Also includes a polished stock visiting card and embossed envelope addressed to John Ripley Esq. Accompanying the material is a note card signed by J. H. Houser Jr., describing the materials. This is all accompanied by a typewritten genealogy of John Putnam, 1580-1662 and his wife Priscilla Gould.

Portrait d'artiste, d'anonyme, de fou, d'abattoir ou d'arbre : Marc Trivier a photographié chaque sujet avec la même intensité interrogative. Toutes réalisées dans le même format carré, élémentaire et clos, sans retouche ni recadrage, les photographies semblent moins mettre en scène un sujet - célèbre ou inconnu, élu ou déchu, vivant ou mort - qu'interroger une présence. «Ce qui m'intéressait, ce n'était pas de photographier simplement un corps ou un visage, mais cette situation particulière qui est quelqu'un en train de faire la photo de quelqu'un d'autre.» En confrontant les portraits d'artistes à leur correspondant altéré, Trivier dévêt l'oeuvre de ses effets et dévoile l'énigmatique nudité du corps photographique. Toccando e preziosa dedica autografa firmata dall'autore a sua sorella Margherita incollato su una scheda sulla prima guardia: "Caro Marg, questo libro non è un libro, ma se lo metti in quei giorni bui, il mio fedele, la mia profondo affetto. Maurice ". Busta recante l'indirizzo di Marguerite Blanchot scritta da suo fratello Maurice incollato a pagina occhietto. Marguerite Blanchot, celebre organista Cattedrale di Chalon, è rimasto tutta la sua vita nella casa di famiglia con la madre e la zia. "E diventerà gradualmente, per la famiglia, come la memoria delle origini." Molto vicino a Maurice, che corrispondeva regolarmente con lo scrittore che lo riflette un grande riconoscimento per la sua dedizione alla loro madre impotente. Se intenso affetto Blanchot per sua madre e sua sorella brilla in dediche di essa, non sappiamo quasi nulla della loro relazione. Nel solo saggio biografico su Blanchot, Christophe Bident rivela, però: "Marguerite Maurice Blanchot adorato fratello molto orgoglioso di lui, (...) che annette grande importanza alle sue idee politiche (...) Ha letto un sacco (.... .) hanno telefonato corrispondeva. Una distanza, hanno condiviso la stessa autorità naturale, la stessa preoccupazione di discrezione ". Maurice." Enveloppe portant l'adresse de Marguerite Blanchot rédigée par son frère Maurice encollée sur la page de faux-titre.Marguerite Blanchot, organiste de renom à la cathédrale de Chalon, demeura toute sa vie dans la maison familiale, avec sa mère et sa tante. "Elle deviendra peu à peu, pour la famille, comme la mémoire des origines." Très proche de Maurice, elle correspond régulièrement avec l'écrivain qui lui témoigne une grande reconnaissance pour son dévouement envers leur mère impotente. Si l'intense affection de Blanchot pour sa mère et sa soeur transparait dans les dédicaces de celui-ci, on ne sait presque rien de leurs relations. Dans l'unique essai biographique sur Blanchot, Christophe Bident nous révèle cependant : "Marguerite Blanchot vénérait son frère Maurice. Très fière de lui, (...) elle attachait une grande importance à ses idées politiques (...). Elle lisait beaucoup (...) Ils se téléphonaient, correspondaient. A distance, ils partageaient la même autorité naturelle, le même souci de discrétion." Blanchot lui adresse en effet de nombreux ouvrages provenant de sa bibliothèque, maintenant avec elle un lien intellectuel continu. Une trace de pliure marginale en pied du premier plat. Agréable exemplaire.

Signed by the author's mother to the half-title, "May 3, 1981 - Appreciation and Regards from John Kennedy Toole's Mother, Thelma Ducoing Toole, to Dear Peter and Margaret Watson". A monument to sloth, rant and contempt, a behemoth of fat, flatulence and furious suspicion of anything modern - this is Ignatius J. Reilly of New Orleans, noble crusader against a world of dunces. The ordinary folk of New Orleans seem to think he is unhinged. Ignatius ignores them, heaving his vast bulk through the city's fleshpots in a noble crusade against vice, modernity and ignorance. But his momma has a nasty surprise in store for him: Ignatius must get a job. Undaunted, he uses his new-found employment to further his mission - and now he has a pirate costume and a hot-dog cart to do it with... John Kennedy Toole's cult novel wasn't published until ten years after his suicide, and only then after the persistent efforts of his mother Thelma Ducoing Toole who finally persuaded the author Walker Percy to read it. Percy recognised a cult classic and it soon received the recognition it deserved winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1981. Condition: This paperback copy has creased covers and some browning to the text. It is in basically good shape, the front cover having creases and folds to all edges, and some corner curling. The spine is creased where read, and the back cover has some creasing but to a lesser extent. The inner binding is secure with no loose pages. Thelma Ducoing Toole's inscription is clear and in very good order. A very scarce title to find signed in any capacity. . Signed by The Author's Mother. First Edition Thus. Paperback. Good.

Additionally signed at later dates by Marc Lawrence, Buddy Rogers, Ginger Rogers, and Beverly Roberts. The presentation label in this copy bears the name of Carl Karnig Mahakian (1926-2015), whose film and television credits include The Manchurian Candidate, The Brady Bunch, and Miami Vice. In 1936, a co-operative service for actors, agents, and casting directors was conceived by Donald Gledhill, then Executive Secretary of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Nurtured in following years by Darryl Zanuck, the Academy Players Directory was regarded as the "bible of the industry" well into the modern era. This unique publication reproduces the first Players Directory and was only available through the Academy. Laid in are copies of the original solicitation letter from the publisher, the prospectus, and the order form. Quarto. Original slate blue buckram binding, with silver titles.         Christopher Pratt

      Toronto: Quintus Press, 1981. Limited edition of 279 signed copies. Hardcover. Very good. 209 p. 34 x 37 cm. 15 b&w figures, author's self-portrait, 81 tipped-in colour plates. Leather spine with beige cloth boards. Spine faded. In matching cloth slipcase with light wear. Signed by the artist and essayists. Silkscreen print not included. When Christopher Pratt first entered Mount Allison University in 1953 it was in pre-medicine. But after being encouraged to paint by Lawren Harris and Alex Colville, Pratt turned his attention to fine arts. Summer work as a construction surveyor at the American Naval Base at Argentia explains the precise measuring found in his paintings. In 1961, Pratt accepted the position of curator at the newly opened Memorial University Art Gallery in St. John's. He remained at the gallery for two and a half years before deciding to concentrate on his painting full-time. The result has been a prolific number of iconic clapboard houses and boats on the seashore as well as more unsettling images like building demolitions and bleak landscapes. Though some of his images supply a feeling of calm, others seem to convey the sharp, northeast winds of Newfoundland.
