Toole, John Kennedy
Baton Rouge, Louisiana: Louisiana State University Press, 1980. First edition. True first printing in correct, first issue jacket. A Near Fine copy of the book in like dust jacket. Boards slightly bowed (as often), but generally an excellent copy. Dust jacket unfaded on the spine, but with a small tear on the top of the front panel otherwise very Nearly Fine. Correctly priced $12.95 and without the Chicago Sun-Times review on the rear panel (as required). A major work of American literature, the novel depicts the satirical adventures of Ignatius J. Reilly as he saunters around New Orleans, looking for work and railing against modern culture. The book was written in the early 1960s, but wasn't published until 1980, 11 years after Toole's suicide, when the author's mother took the manuscript to Walker Percy and essentially forced him to read it. "There was no getting out of it; only one hope remained--that I could read a few pages and that they would be bad enough for me, in good conscience, to read no farther... In this case I read on. And on. First with the sinking feeling that it was not bad enough to quit, then with a prickle of interest, then a growing excitement, and finally an incredulity: surely it was not possible that it was so good." Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1981. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket.

WOLMAN, GIL.
[Paris (The Artist), 1980].. (64)pp. Most prof. illus. Tabloid folio. Self-wraps. Signatures loose, as issued. Wolman’s second livre d’artiste, published in the same year as “L’homme séparé.” “In October 1979, he exhibited all 64 plates of ‘Duhring, Duhring,’ an appropriation of Engels’ ‘Anti-Dühring’ text, from which he excerpted a few words--nouns, individually enclosed in transparency mounts and arranged at regular intervals on the separate images of the heads of miscellaneous characters. In passing, they included Isou, mixed with Brezhnev and heads drawn by Wolman, thus defined by the noun associated with them, except that the photos recurred in a changed order and with different words. Once again, Wolman produced this large coloured wall fresco and a black-and-white version on cheap paper; a book with a tabloid or punk fanzine look about it, quite the opposite of the small edition of 150 of ‘L’homme séparé.’ Keen for the book to be widely distributed, he printed an edition of 5,000. Nearly all these copies were destroyed in the act of arson committed on 28 November 1980 i the Galerie Speiss warehouse, where ‘L’arbre séparé’ was also in storage. Paradoxically the work that had been promised a wide distribution would once again be ‘underground’” (Acquaviva/Mar). Very slightly browned at spine; a fine copy.

This broadside was made while he was the poet-in-residence at UC Santa Cruz, during a time when he was doing a great deal of small press work. ___DESCRIPTION: Broadside printed on vellum, two illuminated and hand-colored initials, with a hand-illuminated maple leaf border, 45 lines of text, 18" by 14", signed to the recto by Everson, hand written limitation/colophon to verso, additionally inscribed by Everson to verso: "For (Roy/Ray?), William Everson, Nov 1, 1981, Los Angeles", limited edition, letter 'U' of 26 lettered copies. ___CONDITION: Fine, the vellum clean, the colours and gilt bright and unrubbed, totally free of edgewear and soiling; on the verso at the top two corners are two old pieces of cloth tape, p … [Click Below for Full Description]

Baumann, Gustave
William & Victoria Dailey, Los Angeles, CA, 1980. Yellow boards covered with black wood block print. Pastedown label on cover and spine. Boards are clean with slight wear at edges of spine. Boards are slightly bowed, but binding is square and tight. Very light soiling to top edge of text block, but interior is clean. Cream dust jacket with light brown wood block print. Very light soiling to rear edges of dust jacket. Hand-printed by Patrick Reagh from Gustave Baumann's original blocks in an edition of 250, this volume is numbered 48. This edition from William & Victoria Dailey is a gorgeously designed reprint of the very rare 1939 original. The green decorative endpapers feature Gustave Baumann woodcuts not used in the original publication; they are seen here for the first time. German-born Gustave Baumann was an influential American printmaker and key figure in the color woodcut revival. This series of prints, based upon pictographs found in Frijoles Canyon (within Bandolier National Monument) , illustrate the deep love and respect that Baumann felt for the Southwest. They clearly represent the pictographs, while still showing Baumann's hand. Primarily single-color, there are three tri-color prints included, including a monumental four-page fold-out image. The prints and images are further contextualized by lyrical essays from both Baumann and preeminent archaeologist Alfred Vincent Kidder. ; Book; Wood block print; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 22 pp [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

London: Hammer Film Productions / Rank Organisation, The, 1980. Souvenir version of the Shooting script for the 1971 film, circa 1980s. The specially bound volume contains the entire script, preceded by a facsimile of the standard British style front script wrapper (with a die-cut title window), several production photos of the twins, the original British Quad poster by Hammer's legendary house artist Tom Chantrell, an X-rated preproduction British poster design by Chantrell (documented but never used), the Spanish poster, and (this is our favorite part) an image of the VHS box. INSCRIBED on the various images in round-robin fashion by leading actresses Mary and Madeleine Collinson, Isobel Black, Damien Thomas, and legendary Hammer poster artist Tom Chantrell. Based on the 1872 vampire novella "Carmilla" by Sheridan Le Fanu, and the third and final film in Hammer's "Karnstein Trilogy" which includes, "The Vampire Lovers" and "Lust for a Vampire". In October 1970 the films producer, Harry Fine, saw Madeleine and Mary Collinson as the first identical twins centerfold feature of "Playboy" and in his pursuit to cast the twins changed the film's original title, "Vampire Virgins," to "Twins of Evil." Madeleine was a self proclaimed horror fan and thus would play opposite her sister as the 'evil' twin. The twins had been modeling only a short while in London since moving from their home in Malta and their English was at such a level their voices were dubbed. Set in Victorian Germany, shot on location in Buckinghamshire, UK and Centralni Filmski Studio Kosutnjak … [Click Below for Full Description]

ANONYME
s.l.: Par l'auteur, 1980. Fine. Par l'auteur, s.l. 1980, 22x22cm sur papier Ilford 30x40cm, une feuille. - Large original photographic portrait in black and white directed and shot by Marc Trivier. Unsigned silver print, like most of Trivier's works. Unique proof drawn by the artist. Photographs of artists, madmen, trees or slaughterhouses, Marc Trivier approaches all these subjects with a look as precise as intense. ""In its cosmogony, every thing, every being, vegetable, animal or human, deserves the same respect. For all are confronted with the same law of brass: loneliness. (Luc Desbenoit) The beauty that emanates from his photos comes from this nudity. There is no editing or cropping. We find in his work the same square format that traps our eyes in photographs where the makeup of color is rejected for an incisive black and white. Since all artificiality has disappeared, we are not dealing with the staging of a subject but with a presence exacerbated by the radiant and singular light, witness of a moment of life and not of pose. It is this light, linked to and obsessed with Trivier's medium, that gives his works the aura that makes them so present: ""Of thirty-five years of photographic practice, of obsessions, it is perhaps that which remains: a singular mode of recording of the burning of light, declined from one image to another, in a succession propositions that are similar and yet each is as singular as the fraction of time to which it refers. (Marc Trivier) Warhol, Foucault, Beckett, Dubuffet ... the greatest writers and artists have posed for Trivier. At the … [Click Below for Full Description]
