Capote, Truman (writer); Lester Persky (producer)
United Artists, New York, 1980. Story script for an unproduced film based on the novella "Hand-Carved Coffins" by Truman Capote, originally published in his 1980 story collection "Music for Chameleons." An exact match to the published text in the novella, and credited on the title page to United Artists, thus clearly printed for their use and ultimately unproduced. One of Capote's most controversial stories, a supposedly nonfictional account of a series of murders in the American Midwest in which the victims were killed by rattlesnakes, after having been mailed small wooden coffins as a warning. Stylistically very much a followup to his most successful novel "In Cold Blood." During his lifetime, Capote divulged as little information as possible about the case, insisting that he had told more of the specifics to producer Lester Persky after he had purchased the rights to the film. This was later refuted by Peter and Leni Gillman in their 1992 "Sunday Times Magazine" article "HOAX: Secrets that Truman Capote took to the grave." The Gillmans found that a similar case had indeed occurred but that Capote had taken significant liberties, using the case as only a starting point and then blending fact and fiction to create "Handcarved Coffins." Set in Nebraska. Burgandy titled Studio Duplicating Service wrappers. Title page present, with copy No. 6 noted in holograph ink, credits for writer Truman Capote and producer Lester Persky. 101 leaves, with last page of text numbered 100. Mimeograph, rectos only. HEINECKEN, Robert
Chicago: A Chicago Book, 1980. Oblong (5.25 x 8 inches). Color reproductions of six of Heinecken's SX-70 Polaroid images of couples; the text on lined paper mimicing index cards. Spiral bound. LIMITED FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER RALPH GIBSON on the title, and with Gibson's ex-libris stamp on inner front wrapper. Laid-in is a mimeo note from Heinecken dated April 1980: "Enclosed as a gift for you is a small book I recently completed. As you proudly show the book to your friends, colleagues and parents you could mention that they can find their own copy in their mailbox by sending me $10.00 / If this package did not protect the book, please let me know. / The numbered [crossed out] edition for sale is 500 and approximately another 100 like yours are floating around." A wonderful association copy, as Gibson is noted for his own exceptional series of photobooks, having created over 40 of his own. Heinecken was a leading conceptual photographer of his generation, calling himself at times a "paraphotographer" because so many of his works were made without a camera and through appropriation. A near-fine copy with a few creases to front wrapper.

Taschen, 1980. New Unread Condition in Original Publisher's Box. While in my warehouse, I recently recently stumbled across a copy of the long sold out limited edition of R. Crumb's Sex Obsessions! A Beautiful signed volume, including a special color print from Robert Crumb! From an edition of 1000. They have little to do with the standard procreative urge, Mr. Crumb admits. He has also said he finds nothing more boring than someone else's sexual obsessions, and yet through his long career the world's most famous underground cartoonist has felt compelled to include his own sex fantasies in his art. He explains it as a compulsive catharsis, while fans call R. Crumb's erotic fantasies the Master at his best. Now Crumb has selected his most intimately revealing comic strips and single page drawings to create a 258 page encyclopedic trip through his sexual psyche. All images were created between 1980 and 2006, and all strips are hand-colored for a lush vibrancy never seen in his comic books. In total the book features 14 complete stories, including My Troubles With Women, If I Were a King, A Bitchin' Bod, and How To Have Fun With a Strong Girl, as well as 60 single page drawings. The artist admits it's a little scary to see his most fevered obsessions collected end to end like this, but fans will find Robert Crumb's Sex Obsessions a fascinating peek inside an often tortured, always brilliantly talented mind, as well as an unparalleled collector's item. This signed limited edition of 1,000 copies is a work of art in itself, with every part of the book --front and back covers, sp … [Click Below for Full Description]

Nixon, Richard
1980. Richard Nixon-ALS with initials on personal stationery. Written to Bob Nesen on July 19, 1980 following the 1980 Republican National Convention: “You looked great on T.V. when you cast California’s votes for Reagan and Bush. It’s a winning ticket”. He signs it with his usual initials. Nixon’s handwriting and initials are slightly larger than normal—possibly to make the brief three sentence letter appear longer by filling the entire page. It is an attractive handwritten example referencing the campaign and his two successors to the White House. Nesen was an influential Republican leader in California who Nixon appointed to be Assistant Sec. of the Navy and Reagan would appoint as Ambassador to Australia.

Association copy, warmly inscribed in the year of publication by the author on the title page in the year of publication, "Betty, please add this to what has become a sizable shelf for which your own responsibility (in so many respects) is far more your philosophy. With my compliments Jim Buchanan Blacksburg November 1980." Also, signed by the co-author, "with love Geoffrey Brennan." The recipient, Betty Tillman was James M. Buchanan's assistant of 46 years, the second person Buchanan phoned on October 16, 1986 (after his wife, Ann) when he learned he had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics (see Buchanan, 'Notes on Nobelity,' in Better than Plowing: And Other Personal Essays, University of Chicago Press 1992). 1980. Condition: Like New. Excellent condition. Front and back covers are in great shape. No marks, writing or underling inside the report itself. Are you a huge Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger fan? If you are, this report is like a delightful walk down memory lane. This listing is for a super rare 1980 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report. As has often been said, these Berkshire Hathaway annual reports, including the Chairman's Letter written by Warren Buffett, are pure solid gold loaded with investing wisdom. This one is different however. It's so old the address on the back cover isn't Kiewit Plaza in Omaha as we're accustomed to seeing, but 97 Cove Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This copy is used but in excellent condition. The front and back covers are in great shape. Inside the report is totally clean with no underlinings, marks or writing on it. No bends and staples are solid! Your best chance to find a copy better than this is probably sitting in a vault in Kiewit Plaza! 56 total pages, which also includes the 1980 annual report letters from Charlie Munger for Blue Chips Stamps (read up on See's Candies, Buffalo Evening News, Precision Steel and Pinkerton's!) and Louis Vincenti for Wesco Financial. Makes an incredible addition to your Berkshire annual report collection. PLUS... as a wonderful bonus, you also get with your 1980 Berkshire Hathaway annual report the Notice of Annual Meeting of Stockholders (the meeting was held at the offices of National Indemnity on Harney Street in Omaha), and two quarterly interim reports, one dated October 3, 1981 and the othe … [Click Below for Full Description]

Ziff Davis / Ultimate Publishing, New York / Flushing, New York, 1980. Magazines. Digests (12mos). Perfectbound in illustrated wrappers. Overall very good with moderate wear, some toning and contemporary tape reinforcement to the spine ends of the early issues. A nearly complete 29-year run of *Fantastic* totaling 174 issues (lacking 35) of this anthology introduced as a companion publication to *Amazing Stories*. Early issues feature a mix of fantasy and science fiction with contributions from many well-regarded writers such as Isaac Asimov, Robert Bloch, Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Shirley Jackson, Cornell Woolrich, Evelyn Waugh, and B. Traven. Due to the over saturated digest market sales fell and with it the magazine's budget for top-tier talent. The magazine switched gear by dropping the fantasy genre in lieu of science fiction often nurturing young writers hungry for work. The result was a number of first published works by writers such as Ursula K. Le Guin ("April in Paris" 9/68) and Piers Anthony ("Possible to Rue" 4/63), along with many early stories from Ian McEwan ("Solid Geometry"), James Tiptree, Jr. ("Fault") and Dean Koontz's ("Soft Come the Dragons"). In act both Tiptree and Koontz first professional sale was to *Fantastic*, though the magazine's slow publication schedule result in both coming out after other stories were published. A wonderful nearly complete run of this important and influential science-fiction anthology. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

[L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E]: [Mass Transit Poets]: [LANG, Doug]
Washington DC: [ca. 1975-1980]. 25 audio cassettes, representing approximately as many hours and some 40+ readers. Generally very good overall. A preliminary digitization of all recordings is available. WITH: over 65 original flyers for these and other readings in the Folio Series, as well as around DC. Flyers generally near fine. All housed together in archival box. "What created such excitement and incredible energy during the 1970s in Washington was the fact that recognition and validation did not require endorsements from the established literary world. It was available through our own resources" (Doug Lang, "DC in the 1970s"). While the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E communities in New York City and San Francisco during the 1970s may be better known, Washington D.C. had a thriving scene as well - anchored in the latter half of the decade by Doug Lang's reading series at Folio Books. The so-called "Mass Transit" poets (which included Terence Winch, Tina Darraugh, Tim Dlugos, Michael Lally, Phyllis Rosenzweig, and Diane Ward) were in many ways the third outpost (after NYC and the Bay Area) of the movement. As Ann Vickery has written in LEAVING LINES OF GENDER: A Feminist Genealogy of Language Writing (Wesleyan, 2000): "Language writing emerged out of quite distinct community formations in San Francisco, New York, and Washington." Lang, who managed the Dupoint Circle shop, hosted his series from approximately Jan. 1976 to June 1978 and booked a variety of regional poets (Winch, Lally, Ward, Rosenzweig, P. Inman, Chris Mason, Kirby Malone, Anselm Hollo, Bernard Welt), typically paired wi … [Click Below for Full Description]

HAMILTON, Richard
Etching and aquatint, 1980, on Rives BFK, signed and numbered from the edition of 100, printed at Studio Crommelynck, Paris, published by Waddington Graphics, London, sheet 58.4 × 38.1 cm. The title is from a song of the 1960s by The Kinks. The image is from a fashion photograph Hamilton found in a dustbin and kept for future use. It is a highly effective evocation of the 1960's style, and at the same time a visual metaphor for the concept of style itself and the modes of representation by which style is conveyed.
