Kupreianov was a Soviet graphic artist born in 1894, in the Polish People’s Republic; died July 29, 1933, in Moscow. "In 1910, Kupreianov studied in St. Petersburg with A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva and in the workshops of D. N. Kardovskii and K. S. Petrov-Vodkin. He was a member of the Society of Easel Painters and the Four Arts group. From 1922 to 1930 he was a professor at the Moscow Vkhutemas-Vkhutein, and from 1930 to 1933 he taught at the Moscow Institute of Printing. Most of Kupreianov’s early works are wood engravings, such as Armored Cars (1918) and The Cruiser Aurora (1923), imbued with revolutionary romanticism. His drawings of the 1920’s and 1930’s on industrial subjects reflect a keen perception and a sense of the rhythm and joy of labor. Emotional immediacy and an expressive sketch are combined with a precise rendering of objects in the series Railroad Tracks (india ink, 1927, Tret’iakov Gallery) and Fishing Season (watercolor, 1930-31, Tret’iakov Gallery and the A. S. Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow). Kupreianov’s landscapes and interiors are marked by rich tonal variations, giving them a strikingly picturesque quality, and by a subtle mood. Kupreianov did the illustrations for Lunacharskii’s Bear’s Wedding (1924), Mayakovsky’s Fairy Tale About Petia, the Fatty, and About Sima, Who Is Much Thinner (1925), Gorky’s The Artamonovs, Mother, and The Town of Okurov (1931), and Fadeev’s The Rout (1932)." from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979).

Ten Scenes In The Last Ascent Of Mont Blanc Including Five Views From The Summit -- Dix Scenes Illustrant Mon Ascension Au Mont-Blanc En 1853

Editions Slatkine, Geneve - Paris 1980 - Quality 1980 reprint of the classic 1853 edition which has reached sale prices over $20,000 at auction. This reprint is limited to 300 numbered copies. This book measures 485mm tall x 325mm, and has pages [4] + 16 + [6] + 13 + 10 leaves of color plates with blank versos. The complete English text is present along with a complete translation of the text in French. The original 1853 edition was entirely in English (no French). The book was originally published with the illustrations in sepia over greyish background and not colored. Buyers had several examples hand-colored. This is a reproduction of one of the hand-colored examples. The 1853 original was issued in wrappers. This reproduction is bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering and gilt border front cover with a smaller reproduction of the front cover of the 1853 wrappers inset on the front. This is a complete reproduction minus the illustrated dedication leaf. For some unknown reason the publisher of this 1980 edition did not include a reproduction of the dedication leaf, possibly because it was missing from the one used to make the reproduction. Also, the size is slightly smaller than the 1853 original, about 7cm shorter. Fully complete examples of the book are rare, being like Pitschner's folio of Mont Blanc plates where often one or two or more plates have been extracted and framed for viewing. CONDITION: small bump upper outside cover corner tip; otherwise, very clean and fine condition. This edition was limited to 300 numbered copies. POSTAGE for this item to Europe is $44.55 by air mail. Surface mail to Europe is not available. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL ITEM BEING OFFERED Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Kaliflower, Volume Five

San Francisco: Free Print Shop 1980 - Very Good HC, no DJ. Beige cloth over boards, white stylized woman’s head with hair spelling 'Kaliflower' on front cover, the hair wrapping around spine onto back cover; gray laid paper end papers. Bright generally clean covers and spine have few small spots; firm, square corners; tightly bound; crisp, clean interior. Brilliant colorful images and print on every page. Starting in April of 1969, Sutter Street Commune in S.F., following Digger philosophy, began issuing a free intercommunal newspaper to area communes to ‘pass the dharma’, i.e., share information with other like-minded communards. For the next 3 years Kaliflower was distributed on a weekly basis, eventually to nearly 300 communes. This volume is drawn from some of those issues but also has some commentary about the making and growth of Kaliflower. As with everything this group produced, nothing is signed or attributed. One of the Sutter Street Commune founders was an experienced printer and the press work was high quality. This is a nicely bound, fine quality volume.         Document Koen (Document Park)

Tokyo: Seven Sha, 1980. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Fine/Fine. This is a first edition, first printing of Kohei Yoshiyuki\'s critically acclaimed Document Koen (Document Park) published by Seven Sha, Tokyo, Japan in 1980. Yoshiyuki was a young commercial photographer in Tokyo in the early 1970s when he and a colleague walked through Chuo Park in Shinjuku one night. He noticed a couple on the ground, and then one man creeping toward them, followed by another. I had my camera, but it was dark, he told the photographer Nobuyoshi Araki in a 1979 interview for a Japanese publication. Researching the technology in the era before infrared flash units, he found that Kodak made infrared flashbulbs. Mr. Yoshiyuki returned to the park, and to two others in Tokyo, through the 70s. He photographed heterosexual and homosexual couples engaged in sexual activity and the peeping toms who stalked them. Measuring approximately 11 x 8 inches, the book is bound in photographically illustrated wraps with a thin glassine dust jacket. Both the book and dust jacket are in FINE condition.

Two Holographic Poems. Metaphor: Like: = I [&] II

1980. A two-part poem penned by Gregory Corso for his friend Fred Martin, Managing Editor at New Directions. Apocryphally at least, Corso "writ out" the poem for Martin at a bibulous evening at one of New York's watering holes. In his time at New Directions, Martin worked with Corso, as well as Allen Ginsberg, Tennessee Williams, William Carlos Williams, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. "Metaphor" is a variation on Corso's poem "Piffle", published in 1980 -- the same year the poem was "writ out for Fred Martin." Shortly thereafter, following the assassination of John Lennon, the poem was reworked and retitled "For John Lennon." Corso's practice seems to have been constantly to re-write, revise, and recycle his poems, perhaps to fit the occasion.

"Ansicht des Moselthales oberhalb Trier, im Vordergrunde die Reste des römischen Amphitheaters."

. Lithographie, auf cremefarbenem Velin. Darstellungsgröße 34,2:44,7 cm, Blattgröße 55,2:60,5 cm. Literatur: Aus Nagler 2; E. Zahn: Joh. Anton Ramboux in Trier, Trier 1980, Nr. 19, Abb. S. 50; Ausst. Katalog: H. Robels: Johann Anton Ramboux. Maler und Konservator 1790-1866, Köln 1966, S. 10).
