Ford Congratulates The Chairman Of The Commission On Government Procurement: "The Impact Of Government Contracts On The National Economy Is Immense. The Proficiency And Equity With Which Contracting Is Performed Has Much To Do With Whether That Impact Is Constructive Or Destructive"

TLS. 1pg. 7 ¼" x 10 ½". April 5, 1979. No place. A typed letter signed "Jerry Ford" as former President to Perkins McGuire. He communicated on his personal letterhead with a gold eagle at the top: "Please accept my regrets that I am unable to be with you on this special evening. As you know...far better than many...procurement ranks extremely high in importance among the functions of the Federal Government. The impact of government contracts on the national economy is immense. The proficiency and equity with which contracting is performed has much to do with whether that impact is constructive or destructive. These, of course, are among the issues with which you dealt so productively as Chairman of the Commission on Government Procurement. I am advised that the National Contract Management Association is devoting its energies to improving the competence of those engaged in public contracting and the effectiveness of its processes. It is very fitting, therefore, that the association has recognized the contributions of Herb Roback to the achievement of these goals by honoring his memory in this fashion. I have been told that Chet Holifield was selected last year by NCMA to received the first award and that you are receiving the second. I could not possibly think of two more worthy recipients. By these selections, the Herbert Roback Memorial Award has already taken on considerable significance. My heartiest congratulations to you, Perk. This is a well deserved and appropriate tribute for yet another of your numerous contributions to good government." McGuire, whom the letter is addressed to, served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Eisenhower, and was later appointed by President Nixon to be Chairman of the Commission on Government Procurement. The letter is in fine condition with two mailing folds and a slight stain above the text that affects nothing.

        Exercises II - Tumo/Detail (Body)

the artist, Hungary 1979 - Print. 255 x 288mm offset lithograph on paper. Entitled, signed & dated by Tibor in blue pencil. Photograph taken by Janos Veto. No edition size given. This is signed printed work from the artists Tumo II series of 1979. See for example p161 Image Whipping - Tibor Hajas Photo Works with Janos Veto, Research Institute for Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, 2004 - where a six part original photographic piece (Tumo II) with additions by the artist features this image. "To recall the life and works of Tibor Hajas is to commit trespass : disturb something which is definitely at rest, mutilate what is whole, classify that which is unclassifiable and, by labelling it as art, degrade what has for eternity become more than that. Hajas' achievement was surely unparalleled. Partly because - in contrast to so many other good artists - what he sought after from the start was absolute validity and irrevocability and partly because his works - despite their finite character - can still continue to give off flames which may easily scorch" (Laszlo Beke, Image Whipping - Tibor Hajas Photo Works with Janos Veto, Research Institute for Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, 2004 , inside back cover text. Very rare.Condition : near fine (minor unobtrusive bump to top right corner) [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Starart ("star Art") : The Limited Edition

Alberta, Canada: StarArt Productions Limited(1979). First Edition / First Printing. Fine in No Dust Jacket, As Issued. 239 pages. Collection of art by pop and rock music icons. One of the most beautiful art collections of its kind ever published in our time. Limited Slipcased Edition of 300 numbered and signed copies. Precedes and should not be confused with the regular trade edition. The Limited Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Debby Chesher: Oversize-volume format. Maroon leatherette boards with gilt titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Art by Joni Mitchell, John Mayall, Cat Stevens, Klaus Voormann, Ronnie Wood, and Commander Cody. Each artist contributes his or her own text. Interviews, Captions, and Supplementary Materials such as vintage photographs and preliminary sketches. Gilt page edges. Matching leatherette slipcase. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Canada to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its most collectible format, "Starart". The original art of six "Hall of Fame" pop and rock music figures. Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, and Ronnie Wood (of the Rolling Stones) are surely the most iconic. Still, the art of John Mayall, Klaus Voormann, and Commander Cody are eye-openers that complete the picture, as it were, of the time during the latter part of the 20th century when some musician/composers, lyricists, singers, and performers were also immensely talented, imaginative, and (especially in the case of Joni Mitchell) truly great visual artists. All of Mitchell's album covers showcase her delicately lyrical art, the perfect complement to her anthem-songs. One of her most ardent fan-collectors (as an artist, not just as a composer/performer) was Andy Warhol, and the originals fetch tens of thousands of dollars (if you can still find them). The styles run the gamut of contemporary art: Figurative, representational, semi-abstract, abstract, Folk Art, Pop Art, futuristic/science fiction/fantasy, art that is directly and affectingly inspired by music, art that fuses diverse influences, and art that hints at both sensuality and spirituality. An absolute "must-have" title for Joni Mitchell, pop/rock music, and contemporary art collectors. This copy is Number 17, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page, and it is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen by Joni Mitchell, John Mayall, Klaus Voormann, Ronnie Wood, and Commander Cody. It is also very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen on the title page by Debby Chesher. In a lovely gesture, Ronnie Wood also wrote a long inscription in black pen on Page 163, and inserted an original Polaroid self-portrait of himself and his baby boy. This title is a great art book. As far as we know, this is the only such copy of the Limited Slipcased Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: By the time of the book's publication, Cat Stevens had long converted to Islam (which prohibits his art and his music). A Note Insert is intact that says he could not sign the book as a result of his conversion. Copies available online have major flaws ("gently used"). Even more important: Authentic Joni Mitchell and Ronnie Wood signatures are nearly impossible to find these days. Here they are, in a Limited Edition book no less. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. Some of the greatest pop and rock music/artists of our time. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 096900530X.
