Seriagraphs rest in illustrated red wraps portfolio with folding flaps. Printed list of plates ( * see below), publisher's information as well as number of copy (22) in handwriting on outer flap. Printed artwork on portfolio cover from 1921 titled "Militärischer Film (1921)." Each plate on handmade paper with deckled edge, protected by loose tissue-guard. Seriagraphs are after early woodcuts (1920s) by Arntz. As a politically engaged graphic artist and designer, Gerd Arntz portrayed the world and his views through wood and linoleum cuts. In the 1920s, he conveyed his vision on social wrongs and the rise of Nazism in his work. The Viennese scientist Otto Neurath ask the artist to design the symbols for the ISOTYPE (International System of Typographic Picture Education). In 1930s Vienna, Arntz and Neurath sought to enlighten its society and help them develop their education as well-informed citizens. Scarce, signed portfolio showing work by one of the finest artists in German Modernism.       1979-1991. In the early 1980s, Burroughs collaborated with S. Clay Wilson on the German editions of Cities of the Red Night [Die Stadte der Roten Nacht, Frankfurt: Zweitausendeins, 1982] and The Wild Boys [Die Wilden Boys, Frankfurt: Zweitausendeins, 1980]. This archive includes: • correspondence related to this and other collaborations between Burroughs and Wilson, as follows: from 1979 to 1982, six items from the publisher to Wilson; from 1979 to 1985, three items from Burroughs' associate James Grauerholz to Wilson; and from 1985 to 1995, eleven items from Burroughs to Wilson. The earlier items, from the publisher and from Grauerholz, generally solicit drawings, convey approval for ideas, and give progress updates. The later items, from Burroughs himself (one typed note signed; four autograph postcards signed; six autograph cards signed), are more personal, frequently conveying gratitude for a gift or appreciation of Wilson's work. In one, Burroughs (according to a pencil note by Wilson, he is referring to The Chequered Demon) says "vintage Clay Wilson hilarious, horrible disgusting as life itself...Its fine its swell itsa gawdy taste of Hell." In another, in a card picturing a unicorn, Burroughs asks, "Did you see the Barnum & Bailey unicorn? I suspect it to be a goat." Several of the cards are holiday cards, and in one Burroughs wishes "All the best for 1986 and the time remaining to us all." In the last two items, Burroughs thanks Wilson for, respectively, the Graham Greene stories and for a cat book. He also complains about the heat: "Over 100 now for a week. Can't do anything but sit in my air conditioned house." This last card is signed "Bill Burroughs." All of the Burroughs' correspondence items (excepting the postcards) have envelopes; one of the postcards is near fine; the others are fine; many depict Burroughs' artwork. • three original pen-and-ink S. Clay Wilson illustrations for the German edition of Cities of the Red Night. Wilson was one of the group of artists who gained exposure in the underground comix of the 1960s counterculture. After R. Crumb, he is probably the best known of that group, and his images are almost certainly the most extreme: all of the underground comic artists sought to break barriers and defy convention, and Wilson's images are densely packed and full of overt sex and violence to a nearly unthinkable degree. In this he was very much like Burroughs, whose verbal imagery sought to shatter all barriers, preconceptions and hypocrisies; the collaboration between the two of them seems in retrospect to have been inevitable. These drawings were displayed at the Los Angeles County Art Museum in the show "Ports of Entry: William Burroughs and the Arts," which sought to convey the influence Burroughs has had on visual arts. Extraordinary images, and probably the best illustrations ever of Burroughs' writings. Burroughs himself appears as a character in one of the images. Two of the images are 5-1/4" x 9", the third is 5-1/4" x 10"; all three are matted and framed to approximately 16" x 19". Also together with the original layout and lettering for the title page of the book: three hand-lettered sheets and one printed sheet. • a trial edition of the German edition of The Wild Boys, rejected by Wilson, who was displeased with the endpapers, signed by Wilson; Wilson's own copy, bound in Niger goat and snakeskin, signed by Wilson and inscribed by Burroughs to Wilson. and the first German edition, signed by Burroughs and Wilson. Wilson's copy is fine in a custom folding chemise; the other tow have a bit of edge-rubbing and are otherwise fine in the publisher's slipcases. • the German edition of Cities of the Red Night, signed by Burroughs and Wilson. Fine in slipcase. ¶ A unique archive of an exceptional collaboration.

        Gordon Matta-Clark : One for All - All for One. Eine Ausstellung Zur Unterstutzüng De "Fonds Gordon Matta-Clark - Zentrum Für Zeitgenössische Kunst Antwerpen"

      Städtischen Kunsthalle Düsseldorf / ICC, Düsseldorf / Antwerpen 1979 - Text: German. De Amerikaanse kunstenaar Gordon Matta-Clark (1943-78), van opleiding architect, gebruikte de stedelijke omgeving, meer bepaald de gebouwen, als materiaal. Hij bewerkte leegstaande panden onder andere door er fragmenten uit weg te snijden. Met zijn ingrepen transformeerde hij architectuur tot sculptuur, hij legde de ziel van een gebouw bloot: to convert a place in a state of mind. In 1977 werd Matta-Clark door Flor Bex uitgenodigd voor een tentoonstelling in het I.C.C. Hij kreeg de gelegenheid om een leegstaand pand aan de Ernest Van Dijckkaai te bewerken, vlakbij het Steen. Ter ere van de vierhonderdste verjaardag van de Antwerpse barokschilder Rubens noemde de kunstenaar dit werk &#145;Office Baroque&#146;. Kort na zijn dood in 1978 stelde Flor Bex voor om als hommage aan de kunstenaar het Office Baroque te bewaren en het als kern te integreren in een op de omgevende percelen nieuw te bouwen museum voor hedendaagse kunst. Dit idee werd positief onthaald en de Stichting Gordon Matta-Clark werd opgericht om de nodige fondsen te werven. Talrijke kunstenaars uit binnen- en buitenland schonken een werk in een poging het Office Baroque veilig te stellen of, indien dat zou mislukken, om als basiscollectie te dienen voor het nieuwe museum voor hedendaagse kunst dat er, zo waren de voorstanders overtuigd, nu hoe dan ook zou komen. Ondanks de inspanningen van velen werd het Office Baroque, het enige overgebleven architecturaal-sculpturaal werk van Gordon Matta-Clark na diens dood, op een zucht van de definitieve overeenkomst gesloopt.         The Big Green Book - RARE UK FIRST PRINTING

      Kestrel Books London 1979 - Possibly a unique copy of this charming book. Maurice Sendak has signed and dated this on the page after the title page, where his superb first drawing appears. This was published in the USA in 1962 but it was not issued in the UK until 1979. This is the first printing thus. Maurice Sendak signed this at Glyndebourne when he was working on the set and costumes for an opera. Scarce children's book title by Robert Graves with superb b&w illustrations by Sendak. Very scarce signed Sendak book. The book is fine, but the dustjacket has been clipped, probably at the publishers, because a tiny corrected sticker on the front flap of the jacket says 'Kestrel £3.95'. Jacket now protected, and apart from the clipped price is otherwise Fine. The signature is dated May 82. Possibly unique as a signed copy by Maurice Sendak.         Hand Cast and Photos (from The Bandaged Poets Series)

      1979. Plaster cast of William S. Burroughs&#39;s right hand created by Caroline Gosselin as part of her Bandaged Poets Series with several accompanying photographs taken by Gerard Malanga of the casting process, Burroughs holding the finished hand, and of Gregory Corso. The unsigned hand is 5" x 2.75" x 7" with a rectangular base and is assembled from two separate molds of the front and back of Burroughs&#39;s hand which were then affixed together. Fine with a touch of toning from being handled. Accompanied by four original photographic prints of Burroughs holding the hand, each a different size: 13.75" x 11", 9.75" x 8", 7" x 5.5", and 7" x 5". All are fine except one which has been cut down from a larger photo and has a somewhat ragged top and foredge, near fine. Also included is a long, narrow photo strip measuring 63" x 3.5" with 36 separate images: twenty-four of Burroughs&#39;s hand being cast; four of Burroughs holding the hand (but different from the larger images); and eight of Gregory Corso, presumably present when the cast was made, sitting by a window. The strip is Signed on the verso: "Gerard Malanga &#39;79" with "739" stamped nearby, though there is some reason to believe the photographs, (or at least a few) were taken by Ira Cohen who helped conceive of the series and married Gosselin in 1981. Supposedly only two copies of the cast were made; the other is reportedly at the Beinecke Library at Yale. .
