[Playscript]: I Remember Mama: The Musical

New York: (Alexander H. Cohen and Hildy Parks) / Rodgers and Hammerstein. [1979] / 1981. First. Playscript. Mimeographed leaves printed rectos only, screw bound into embossed black wrappers. Very near fine. Rodgers and Hammerstein label on first leaf noting that this copy has been revised for their production company in 1981. This musical, the last to be composed by Richard Rodgers (who died in 1979), is an adaptation of the comic play that Rodgers and Hammerstein produced in 1944. That in turn was adapted from Kathryn Forbes's novel Mama's Bank Account, and was the basis for the 1948 George Stevens film with Irene Dunne as Mama. This musical version featured music by Rodgers and lyrics by Martin Charnin. Laid in is a master property list, and a letter from a Rodgers and Hammerstein executive to a set designer offering $1000 for him to design sets for the play. .

        Prince Valiant

      - Original pen and ink comic strip, 7 boxed illustrations, on one page, measuring approximately 16 x 20 inches. The mock-up artwork, which has text pasted below each original drawing, is dated October 14, 1979, strip number 2227, and signed by the distinguished artist John Cullen Murphy, who had begun to assist the retiring Hal Foster in 1971. The strip depicts Prince Valiant doing battle with "a large, loud, red-faced knight," Karran, who is inebriated. Valiant takes mercy and tumbles him gently from the saddle. International praise has been heaped up Foster and Murphy. For instance, Edward, the Duke of Windsor, considered the Prince Valiant comic strip the "greatest contribution to English literature in the past hundred years." A unique piece, matted and framed.         The Lord Of The Rings: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING; THE TWO TOWERS; THE RETURN OF THE KING

Allen & Unwin London 1979 - This is the thoroughly grown up edition with all three volumes in one book. The India paper used is as most bibles are printed; very fine paper that is also tough. Thus all three volumes are conveniently included in one handy sized book. The book is foil blocked on the black buckram cover, the text block edges are nicely blue spattered, and the glassine wrapper adds protection inside the handsome box. The paper label on the bo=x is in black and red, and it makes a handsome collectable. The De Luxe edition proved to be popular, and this is its seventh impression. As with most copies the thin paper does crease easily and this copy has a slightly creased title page. The spine is brightly gilt. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Yompor Po'Non (Amuesha New Testament - Bible)

Wycliffe Bible Translators 1979 - This New Testament is written in the Amuesha language. Language (an Arawakan language) is also known as Yanesha' and Amisha. Size: 8mo - over 7 3/4" - 9 3/4" tall. 865 pp. No significant flaws. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 pounds.         The Operas of Benjamin Britten: The Complete Librettos Illustrated with Designs of the First Productions

Hamish Hamilton, London 1979 - RARE, POSSIBLY UNIQUE COPY OF THIS INDISPENSABLE WORK. This standard work will probably never be printed again, and certainly not with such lavish care. It is a wonderful labour of love, and contains all the libretti of every Britten opera. Contributors include Peter Pears, Janet Baker, Eric Crozier, Basil Coleman, Colin Graham, Hans Keller, John Piper, Myfanwy Piper and Andrew Porter. It also comes with a unique set of extras - a VERY RARE signed autographed message from Britten, saying 'With best wishes, Benjamin Britten 1963' written on a piece of lined notepaper, along with a handwritten note from the person who obtained it; an original photograph of Britten from his record company archive; and a signed original lithographic print of a Britten portrait by the artist Peter Kettle, produced for an exhibition at Sussex University. This set is a fine tribute to a great creative genius of British music, who remains the only British composer of the 20th Century whose every opera is now firmly established in the international opera repertoire. This is a very special, probably unique, collectors group of items, suitable for an archive or library purchase. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

[160] pp. Profusely illustrated throughout, including eleven full-page color illustrations, some of which are double-page.One of twenty copies signed in pencil on the title-page by Ralph Thompson and specially bound by Zaehnsdorf in quarter brown morocco, ruled in gilt, over tan cloth boards. Vellum tips. Spine ruled and lettered in gilt with two raised bands and with the Zaehnsdorf monogram in gilt at the foot of the spine. Top edge gilt. A fine copy. Housed in the original tan cloth slipcase. "This book was first published in 1970. I was fortunate to make this safari in East Africa before the Federation broke up and the different countries went their separate ways. It is, of course, still possible to see the parks mentioned in the book. This new edition is published in a format which, it is hoped, will be much more convenient to handle. It should therefore be easier to examine the pen drawings, and it is these which I regard as the kernel of the book. Although some of the colour plates are now shown as single-page ‘details’ only, it is to be hoped that this more manageable format will make the new Artist’s Safari a welcome successor to the first edition" (verso of half-title).

The Key To Midnight - Uncorrected Proof

Pocket 1979 - ADVANCE UNCORRECTED PROOF (also commonly referred to as Advance Reading Copy, Advance Readers Edition or "ARC"), large (larger than the published pb) trade pb format with plain wrapper cover, printed in very small quantities several months before the trade pb release (book was used by editors/book reviewers in advance of hardcover publication). VERY VERY RARE PROOF - ANY PROOFS OF DEAN KOONTZ'S BOOKS FROM THE 1970s SIMPLY DO NOT COME UP FOR SALE - THIS IS ONLY THE 2ND PROOF OF THIS BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR SALE. Book appears unread with pages that are white with sharp corners, no creased page corners, nice tight spine with no spine lean, no internal hinge splits, no former owner's markings or used bookstore stamps/stickers inside (author's name/book title was written on the otherwise blank spine), no scotch tape marks or other discoloration to endpapers, no wear to covers, creases at cover corners, no rubbing or soiling to covers, no bumped corners, no wear tO spine tips. Overall a FINE- book of a rare advance state (predating the pb trade edition) Dean Koontz first printing proof book. While the Koontz post-Putnam proofs (after 1993) are fairly common (like Dark Rivers, Intensity, and Sole Survivor), Koontz's Putman era proofs are quite scarce and rarely come up for sale as most are in the hands of collectors. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Dean Koontz 1st printing hardcover/paperback/magazine appearances up for sale. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

        16 Black Flag Flyers

California. [1979-1982]. First. Sixteen original flyers for the American punk rock band Black Flag, various sizes, in very good to near fine condition with some tape abrasions, slight creasing, and tiny chips from removed staples. Eleven of the flyers are confirmed as having artwork by Raymond Pettibon. Black Flag, widely regarded as one of the first hardcore punk bands, was formed in 1976 by its only continuous member, guitarist Greg Ginn. They were innovators of the West Coast punk sound and were influential in the counterculture of punk both in the U.S. and overseas. From 1981-1984 they were fronted by singer Henry Rollins, arguably their most notorious member. Raymond Pettibon, a highly collected American artist, is noted for his comic-like drawings, ink on paper, and his association with Black Flag and the mid-1970s to late 1980s punk scene. Pettibon, Ginn's younger brother, started as a bass player for the band. He suggested the band's name (changed from the original name, Panic, in late 1978) and also designed their logo of vertical bars, with which the band gained notoriety by spray painting it all around the Los Angeles area. Pettibon was also the unofficial artist for Ginn's record label, SST Records, which released influential recordings from other alternative bands such as the Minutemen, Husker Du, the Meat Puppets, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr. Details of the collection available upon request. .

A few months later, November 2, 1979, Jacques Mesrine was shot to death by the anti-gang police force of the chief of police Broussard. Here Mesrine makes fun of the police officer, showing he bears the same beard as Broussard's one, using precisely this particular desguise to escape him. As in a game. A childish mortal game. Fine. Provenance: the photographer. Reference: MESRINE, Photographies et légendes par Alain BIZOS, Texte Gilles MILLET, E/P/A-Hachette Livre, Paris, 2008. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]
