        The Stand

New York: Doubleday(1978). 1st edition/1st printing. Stated First Edition, with the proper T39 code at the lower gutter of the last text page. SIGNED and inscribed by the author on the front end page: 'For Dan, Best, Stephen King 8/22/80'. Fine book: unread and 'very' tight, straight, clean, unworn binding edges and corners, the gilt on the spine is bright and sharp, and the spine itself has none of the concavity or creasing you normally find with this very thick book when it has been read. The page edges are clean, binding corners sharp. The only thing I can find wrong with it at all is that the cloth at the upper spine end has a bit of flexibility to it but isn't limp or crushed. The Fine dustjacket has had 'no' restoration; it is price intact, crisp, clean and unfaded with no chips or tears; it does have an almost unnoticeable very thin vertical fold line to the front flap. This book is most of King fans' favorite, and rightly so. It is a superbly written book about an after-the-apocalypse world when a plague escapes a government lab and kills most of the population, and of the fight between good and evil among the survivors in the U.S. Filmed as a multi-part mini-series for TV. Reissued in 1990 containing the few hundred pages that the publisher made King shorten the book by in 1978. Collector's copy.; 8-7/16" x 5-3/4"; 823 pages; Signed by Author, 10, 20, 24, F/F

LES LIVRES DE L'ENFER. Bibliographie critique des ouvrages erotiques dans leurs differentes editions du XVIe siecle a nos jours

      C. Coulet & A. Faure, Paris 1978 - 8vo. 839pp. Preface, bibliography, list of books in "l'enfer'", index. No. 79 of 100 copies on Inges paper; this is a single-volume edition, possibly a private binding. Although ostensibly a detailed catalogue of the extensive erotica holdings of the Bibliotheque Nationale, the French national library, this work is in fact a good deal more, including full bibliographical information of the erotic books of Pia's own collection and those of his friends. A very important reference work indeed. Decorated blue leather in slipcase. Gilt. Light rubbing along titles, corners sharp and internally very tight. Very good. [Attributes: First Edition]

History of the Indian Tribes of North America

Volair Ltd., Kent 1978 - 2 vol. 8vo; tan leather dec in gilt; spine with 5 raised bands, gilt dec and title; aeg; moire eps; vols enclosed in brown cloth cov. slipcase. The volumes appear never to have been opened; enclosed in vol.1 is a letter from Volair Ltd and a loose bookplate showing this as set 3728 of a total printing of 5,000; pp. xxvii, 470, vii, 534, 4. This is a rare octavo reprint of the famous work orig. published by the authors in 1836, 1838, and 1844 as a folio in 3 volumes. The plates are considered to be among the greatest done of indians and are brilliantly colored. Unfortunately, early editions are quite scarce and extremely expensive, many volumes having been broken for the large plates which go for many thousands of dollars individually. The plates are faithfully reproduced in this set, although 8vo rather than folio, and certainly not as bright as the originals. This set, in itself, is scarce, and becoming more valuable with time.
