Max The Mouse who Made the Met

      - This is an early home-made book by an eighteen year old (or 17) Tom Yakutis, who went on to a highly successful career as an animator. His later credits include Popeye (1978 - 1981), Challenge of the SuperFriends, and many stints as director, designer, or artist on episodes of such beloved cartoons as the Jetsens, the Flintstones, etc. He began his career at Disney and worked at many of the major animation studios subsequently, including Hanna and Barbera, Warner Brothers, etc. Already in this illustrated manuscript we can see the polish of his renderings, with the mice and human characters endowed with real expressiveness. The short text is not really commensurate with the quality of the illustrations, and from the many misspellings we might wonder whether Mr. Yakutis was dyslexic. The story flows crudely, but thankfully, the drawings delight and more than compensate. The setting of this mouse tale at the Met is also interesting. There is an element of humor in the tiny creature living in so grand a place, and then upending it. At the time the Met loomed larger in the American landscape as a temple of high culture, and it was a time when top singers there had a presence in popular culture as well, with singers such as Rise Stevens, Laurence Tibbett, Lily Pons, Jamila Novotna, etc. enjoying significant movie careers in popular movies.

        Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Alfred A. Knopf, New York - SIGNED and dedicated by Dahl in blue felt pen directly to the front end paper (not a bookplate or card pasted in) PLUS a hand typed SIGNED letter on his Gypsy House headed paper, dated Oct 1978. I am unsure of the exact version of the book this is, possibly 3rd state? As it has 4 lines in the colophon on the final page; the boards are cream with a chocolate brown cloth spine and green endpapers. However the Oompa-lumpas are still African unlike the later versions. An inscription on the end paper has been rubbed out but is still just visible. I have collected Dahl books for years (many are signed) and I am now selling them all. "Alexander Street" Original Lithograph, signed, numbered, and dated by Howard Hodgkin. Professionally cloth-matted and vintage brass-framed at the time of publication in 1978. The latter reproduces the lithograph on Page 75 as Catalogue Raisonne #44. Text description follows: "Lithograph from three zinc plates printed in emerald green, red brown, and grey with hand colouring in yellow watercolour and red gouache. On Velin Arches mould-made paper (300 gsm). Signed and dated 78 in pencil, lower centre. Numbered in pencil, lower left. Published by Bernard Jacobson Ltd London 1978. Image and sheet: 340 X 612 mm (13.25 X 24.18 inches) " ("Howard Hodgkin Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne"). "Enthusiasm for Howard Hodgkin among art critics, historians, art collectors, and the general public has never been greater. He stands confirmed as a Master of the hesitant, truant nature of life and emotion, an artist whose great achievement is to have created equivalents in art for the textures of memory itself" (Publisher's blurb). "Our greatest colorist since Matisse" (Susan Sontag). An absolute "must-have" work of art for Howard Hodgkin collectors. This "Alexander Street" original lithograph is Number 67/90, very neatly and discreetly indicated as such in pencil on recto (lower left), and very neatly, discreetly, and beautifully signed and dated in pencil on recto (lower center) by the artist: "Hodgkin 78". As far as we know, this is the only such print available online, is elegantly cloth-matted and brass-framed, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare editioned and signed print thus. 1 original lithograph. The greatest British abstract artist of our time. A fine collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER HOWARD HODGKIN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).

        The Stand

New York: Doubleday(1978). 1st edition/1st printing. Stated First Edition, with the proper T39 code at the lower gutter of the last text page. SIGNED and inscribed by the author on the front end page: 'For Dan, Best, Stephen King 8/22/80'. Fine book: unread and 'very' tight, straight, clean, unworn binding edges and corners, the gilt on the spine is bright and sharp, and the spine itself has none of the concavity or creasing you normally find with this very thick book when it has been read. The page edges are clean, binding corners sharp. The only thing I can find wrong with it at all is that the cloth at the upper spine end has a bit of flexibility to it but isn't limp or crushed. The Fine dustjacket has had 'no' restoration; it is price intact, crisp, clean and unfaded with no chips or tears; it does have an almost unnoticeable very thin vertical fold line to the front flap. This book is most of King fans' favorite, and rightly so. It is a superbly written book about an after-the-apocalypse world when a plague escapes a government lab and kills most of the population, and of the fight between good and evil among the survivors in the U.S. Filmed as a multi-part mini-series for TV. Reissued in 1990 containing the few hundred pages that the publisher made King shorten the book by in 1978. Collector's copy.; 8-7/16" x 5-3/4"; 823 pages; Signed by Author, 10, 20, 24, F/F
