Original Poster: "Fight Homelessness - Support Huntley Street Squatters"

[London: S.i., 1978]. Poster produced by the Huntley Street Squatters, who were located at 1-9 Huntley Street in Bloomsbury. In addition to being the center of the London Squatters Union, the Huntley Street squat was home to more than 150 squatters and 32 children who occupied the building in 1977-78. The mansion block, owned by Camden and Islington Health Authority, had lain empty for two years, and quickly became a focus for the squatters' movement in London. Led by Piers Corbyn, the squatters set up a café, hosted festivals, and even set up an office which helped to re-house the homeless. After 17 months, 300 police officers with bulldozers converged upon the building and evicted all who lived there. A rare poster; no examples in the trade (2014), not listed in OCLC, with the only example found by us held at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam. A4. Original photo-lithographed poster, with image printed black on white stock and text silkscreened in red ink at lower edge; measures 45cm x 57cm (17.75" x 22.25"). Light wear and shallow creasing to upper right margin (roughly 4"), with a dash of red ink on verso; Very Good+ to Near Fine.

Each letter is only 0.145mm high. Together with the original piece of type that was used to print the Lord’s Prayer. In a note written on the back of the type’s glassine envelope, Morris writes that he had to stop and clean out the type after each impression, but the end result is quite legible when viewed under 10x magnification. No. V-109 is the only miniature book printed at Bird & Bull and the first time that a Bird & Bull checklist appeared in print. Very fine in a deluxe binding by Gray Parrot of gilt-stamped black morocco with an onlaid "V" in gray. The endpapers are purple paste-paper made by Henry Morris.         Classics of The Macabre

London: Victor Gollancz, Ltd., 1978 Illustrated by Michael Foreman. Limited edition of 250 numbered copies. Signed by Du Maurier and Foreman on the limitation page. Publisher's red cloth, spine lettered in gilt, all edges gilt, pictorial gradient red to lilac endpapers with an illustration of birds in flight in black; in the publisher's blue-gray cloth slipcase, with an illustration by Foreman laid onto the front panel. About fine, with a hint of wear to the extremities, small faint spot to the rear board, else fine; slipcase with a hint of wear and a few minor scuffs, else fine. A bright and pleasing copy. Classics of the Macabre is a collection of six of Du Maurier's short stories, including "Don't Look Now," "The Apple Tree," "Blue Lenses," "The Alibi," and "Not After Midnight." Additionally, this volume contains "The Birds," which notably served as the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 film of the same name. Du Maurier prefaces the collection: "I have always been fascinated by the unexplained, the darker side of life. I have a strong sense of the things that lie beyond our day-by-day perception and experience. It is, perhaps, an extension of this feeling that makes me live through the characters that I create." Indeed, Du Maurier's vivid imagery and eloquent descriptions make these stories beautiful in spite of their grisly themes. Accordingly, the vibrant watercolor illustrations by Michael Foreman, a renowned children's illustrator, complement these stories splendidly.. Illus. by Foreman, Michael. Signed by Author. Limited. Hard Cover. Fine.

SUPERB 4 PAGE ALS FROM BERT MATHIEU WITH PHOTOS OF DURRELL, TEMPLE & MATHIEU, October 6, 1978.

Mathieu, October 6, 1978, New Haven - Miller, Henry [Bert Mathieu] SUPERB 4 PAGE ALS FROM BERT MATHIEU WITH PHOTOS OF DURRELL, TEMPLE & MATHIEU, October 6, 1978. Superb 4 page Als from Miller's friend [& translator of Miller & Rimbaud], Bert Mathieu, 6 October 1978. Very Chatty. In part. "Dear Henry / There must be a great rejoicing in your house this week after the announcement that the Nobel Prize had gone to Bashevis Singer! If they haven't got the guts to give it to Henry Miller, the least they can do is give it to a writer whom you warmly admire. I'll never forget the story you told me last year about Singer's response when you told him of your admiration for Knut Hamsun. All three of you are giants, of course. And I'm convinced that you will also get the Nobel. It's only fitting that all three of you should have it. "All you have to do is live long enough". . . Larry Durrell joined us all in writing to the Nobel Committee, as you had recommended, but he seemed to think you were far above such awards! As far as he was concerned (and I'm with him 100%). Giving Henry Miller the Nobel Prize id like presuming to offer the Nobel Prize to Homer, to Dante, to Dostoevsky, to Whitman, Such writers don't need it." Besides as Larry quickly added, "Henry awarded himself the Nobel Prize years ago at the Villa Surat." / What a trip I had in the south of France! The visit to Larry's was the high point. . . As you predicted. . . We spent many hours talking about everything from sex to the Tao Te Ching, from wine to Nietzsche’s Sils Maria. . . I'm sending you a couple of photos to give you an idea of the warmth of the visit. / Bert". Three, 3" x 5" colour photos enclosed of Durrell, F.J. Temple & Bert with snappy captions by Bert on the verso: 1 - "Henry / Do you recognize F. J. Temple on the right? He was living with a beautiful young woman on the second floor at Durrell's", 2 – "Sommieres, July 30, 1978 / This photo was taken on the day of my departure. We had hit it off and had been having some good talk. Here, we're all a bit subdued", 3 - "Larry playing the clown! Every time the camera appeared, he would be magically transformed into a buffoon. What a man!" With original mailing envelope on which Miller has written "File". [Frederic-Jacques Temple was born in Montpellier in 1921, where he still resides. Ami et biographe d'Henry Miller, compagnon de voyages et d'écriture de Blaise Cendrars, de Lawrence Durrell ou de Joseph Delteil, FJ Temple est à la fois essayiste, poète et romancier.
