The Hermetic Journal (Complete Run of 42 issues, 1978-1988)

Edinburgh: Megalithis Research Publications, 1978-1988. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Near Fine. Published Quarterly. 42 issues in stapled wrappers. Most issues run 44 pages, others run 40 pages. Black and white illustrations of Alchemical designs and emblems to all volumes. This quarterly journal which was edited by Adam McLean was dedicated to the Hermetic Tradition, in particular focussing on Alchemy. The alchemical tradition has been a source of inspiration to mysticism and various forms of occultism, but sadly the wellspring of Alchemy has been much neglected in recent years. This long-running journal printed a wealth of material that had not been formerly available outside of libraries, however, the bulk of its content consists of original research material and commentary on the alchemical tradition, with additional articles and essays on Kabbalistic, Astrological and Magical ideas. McLean's editorial policy was completely independent of any particular school or esoteric path, and contributions were sought from many different sources. McLean himself was responsible for a large number of articles throughout the issues. Other contributors included Ithell Colquhoun, Kenneth Clark, Stephen Skinner, Mike MaGee (as Sri Lokanath), Joscelyn Godwin, Deirdre Green, Peter Dawkins, Mobius Rex, Joseph R. Ritman, Graham Knight, R.A. Gilbert, and many others. Issues included numerous alchemical images, plus the latest news and events, a running list of available occult magazines and journals, book reviews and more. There are over 1600 total pages in this complete set. A unique and desirable addition to any occult library. Nearly all issues are in near fine condition with a few in very good condition. Complete runs are exceptionally rare.

Le sourire au pied de l'échelle -

André et Pierre Gonin 1978 -, Lausanne - 1 volume. Fort in-4 Non paginé (environ 240 pp.) Sous étui en plexiglas. Sous couverture cartonnée. Intérieur très frais. Texte en partie incomplet. Très bel état. EXEMPLAIRE UNIQUE.

        The World According to Garp.

Dutton, New York 1978 - The uncorrected proof of the first edition of the author's breakthrough novel. Octavo, original green wrappers. Signed by the author, who has added the words, "In [The World According to Garp], we are all terminal cases John Irving." In very good condition with some light sunning to the extremities. Rare. The World According To Garp is a comic and compassionate coming-of-age novel that established John Irving as one of the most imaginative writers of his generation. A worldwide bestseller since its publication in 1978, Irving's classic is filled with stories inside stories about the life of T.S. Garp, novelist and son of Jenny Fields. "There is something of Byron about John Irving. Not only is it that he woke after the publication of The World According To Garp to find himself famous, but the extremity of his opinions and the nervous violence of his language recall that intemperate noleman, and like Byron, he would certainly say that love is no sinecure" (Robertson Davies).         Figura femminile.

Firmato e datato in basso a destra. Si vende in cornice. Formato: Carboncino di cm 50x340 cm (dimensione foglio). Buono.

Shih "A Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser" in Physical Review Letters 84 No. 1, January 3, 2000, pp. 1-5 WITH Jacques, Vincent E., Wu, Alain Aspect, Philippe Grangier, et al. "Experimental Realization of Wheeler';s Delayed-Choice Gedanken Experiment" in Science 315. No. 5814, February 6, 2007, pp. 966-968 WITH Peruzzo, Alberto, Peter J. Shadbolt, Nicolas Brunner, Sandu Popescu, and Jeremy L. O'Brien "A Quantum Delayed Choice Experiment" AND by Florian Kaiser, Thomas Coudreau, Pérola Milman, Daniel B. Ostrowsky, and Sébastien Tanzilli "Entanglement-Enabled Delayed-Choice Experiment" in Science 338 No. 6107, November 2, 2012, pp. 634-637 and 637-640

THREE INDIVIDUAL ISSUES IN ORIGINAL WRAPS HOUSING THE FIRST EDITIONS OF FOUR FAMOUS QUANTUM EXPERIMENTS RELATED TO WHEELER'S DELAYED CHOICE EXPERIMENT. In 1978, Einstein's last collaborator John Wheeler conducted a milestone thought experiment that has come to be known as Wheeler's delayed choice experiment. Wheeler's paper has generated many subsequent quantum experiments, among them the four famous papers collected here. In Wheeler's 1978 experiment, "a single photon has two paths it could take in an interferometer. In its wave character, the photon will take both paths simultaneously. In its particle character, the photon needs to decide which of the two paths it will take. Wheeler proved, in accordance with quantum mechanics, that the decision whether the photon will behave as a wave or as a particle can be [made] even after it has already entered the interferometer" (Science News, January 9, 2013). The first of the four papers offered here, . "A Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser," published in 2000, by Marlan O. Scully, Yoon-Ho Kim, R. Yu, S. P. Kulik, and Y. H. Shih, describes the first successful "quantum eraser" experiment and incorporates concepts considered in Wheeler's delayed choice experiment. The quantum eraser experiment "achieves the same effect as "delayed choice" by encoding path information on individual particles at the slits but then sometimes "erasing" this encoding later at the experimenter's choice. According to theory, erasure of particle encoding should result in the appearance of wave characteristics despite the fact that the particles had passed through the slit before the encoding was removed" (Wenner Collection). Scully and Kim's, et al. experiment was a complicated construction. "It is set up to measure correlated pairs of photons, which are in an entangled state, so that one of the two photons is detected 8 nanoseconds before its partner. The results of the experiment are quite amazing. They seem to indicate that the behavior of the photons detected these 8 nanoseconds before their partners is determined by how the partners will be detected. Indeed it might be tempting to interpret these results as an example of the future causing the past. The result is, however, in accordance with the predictions of quantum mechanics" (Wikipedia). The second of the papers, "Experimental Realization of Wheeler's Delayed-Choice Gedanken Experiment" by Vincent Jacques, E. Wu, Alain Aspect, Philippe Grangier, et al.,was published in 2007. It was the first to carry out Wheeler's original predictions and is known as the first successful execution of Wheeler's delayed choice experiment. Closely following Wheeler's original line of thought, "wave-particle duality is strikingly illustrated by Wheeler's delayed-choice experiment, where the configuration of a two-path interferometer is chosen after a single-photon pulse has entered it: Either the interferometer is closed (that is, the two paths are recombined) and the interference is observed, or the interferometer remains open and the path followed by the photon is measured. We report an almost ideal realization of [Wheeler's] experiment with single photons allowing unambiguous which-way measurements. The choice between open and closed configurations, made by a quantum random number generator, is relativistically separated from the entry of the photon into the interferometer" (Jacques et al., 2007). The third and fourth papers appear in the same November 2, 2012 issue of Science and both describe "sophisticated demonstrations of the wave-particle duality of single quanta" (Wikipedia). Both also describe Wheeler delayed choice experiments in which the choice about which path the photon takes is made AFTER the measurement is made.  The third, by Peruzzo et al., "uses Bell inequalities to replace the delayed choice devices, but it achieves the same experimental purpose in an elegant and convincing way" (Wikipedia). The fourth, by Kaiser et al., specifically notes that "wave and particle behavior can coexist simultaneously." The result "underlines the fact that a simple vision of light as a classical wave or a particle is inadequate" (Kaiser, 2012). CONDITION & DETAILS: 3 individual issues in original wraps housing four papers. Light pen marks on the front cover of the Physical Review issue; mailing label on one of the Science issues and mailing label removal marks on the second Science issue (see scan). Withal, each issue is in very good condition; each is bright and clean throughout.

L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E [Complete Set of 13 Issues Plus Supplements]

New York, (1978-1981). First Edition. Wraps. Very good +. Large 8vo. printed stapled self-wrappers. Offset printed. Generally very good overall. Toning to spine. Some occasional contemporary notes throughout, all related to contents of the various issues. Issue six with stain to front cover. Else clean and sound throughout. Arguably the most important document to emerge from the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E movement, Andrews and Bernstein's journal published some 16 issues (13 issues proper, plus various supplements) from 1978 through 1981. With its austere production and design (by Bernstein's wife Susan Laufer/Bee), in many ways the clearest expression of the aesthetic and the moment the movement fully matured. Contributors include: Lyn Hejinian, Ray DiPalma, Larry Eigner, Bob Perelman, Ron Silliman, Kathy Acker, Rae Armantrout, Jackson Mac Low, Bernadette Mayer, Rosemary Waldrop, Douglas Messerli, Dick Higgins, Clark Coolidge, Jerome Rothenberg, Barrett Watten, Susan Howe, among many others. With fewer than 200 copies printed for each of the earliest issues, complete runs are quite uncommon, this being only the second we've encountered. [Clay and Phillips 235].

Papyrus Ani BM 10.470. Vollständige Faksimilie-Ausgabe im Originalformat des Totenbuches aus dem Besitz des British Museum. Codices selecti phototypice impressi.

Graz: Adeva, 1978.. Nach dem Orignal London, British Museum, Nr. 10.470. 37 Tafeln ca. 50 x 100 cm in Leinenkassette mit integrierten Aufsteller. 83 S. Kommentar, broschiert. Dynastie, wurde also gegen 1300 v.
