Published in connection with the artistsÕ group Colab, the magazine was an ad-hoc collective publishing venture featuring writings and projects by Diego Cortez, Terence Severine, Eric Mitchell, Kathy Acker, Michael McClard, Duncan Smith, Jacki Ochs, Mitch Corber, Alan Moore, James Nares, Jimmy de Sana, Betsy Sussler, Arturo Schwarz, Beth B, Tom Otterness and many others.         Portrait of T.S. Eliot.

[No date c.1977] 450 x 560 mm in glazed wooden frame. Artist's Proof print captioned and signed in pencil by the artist. A note on the backing to the frame suggests that this was a limited edition print of 45 copies. The backing also has a label with Jacqueline Morreau's London address. A handsome image of the poet deep in thought somking a small cigar. "A US born figurative painter working on the representation of women from a feminist viewpoint, Jacqueline Morreau studied with Rico Lebrun in Los Angeles and completed a training in medical illustration before settling permanently in London in 1972. Technical skill and concern with depicting the human body have both remained central to her work, even when this commitment contravened feminism's 1970s rejection of oil painting as too traditional to be politically valid. Although Morreau's art is traditional in appearance, it is revolutionary in content. Morreau was one of the four artists who organized "Women's Images of Men" - an exhibition which opened at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and toured Britain in 1980-81 - and, in her paintings and drawings, she has continued to express what she has described as `the divided self'. Through metaphorical scenes, often derived from classical mythology, Morreau presents complex and often conflicting views of women which not only reclaim and represent familiar stories from a female perspective, but also act as allegories for the values of contemporary society... Just as Greek mythology is underpinned by strata of complex and ambiguous sexual messages, so are Morreau's paintings... Morreau is one of the few artists to produce work that is both didactic and open to wide interpretation. " Louisa Buck, The Sexual Imagination, ed Harriett Gilbert, London 1993

        The Shining

A UK First Edition, First Printing (New English Library 1977 with the code 'R49' present on page 447). The print run for the US First Edition was 25,000 and, given the low print runs of the UK editions of 'Carrie' and 'The Stand', which consisted of just 500 and 1000 copies respectively, the UK First Edition of 'The Shining' is likely to be considerably rarer than that of the US. Small bump to top of spine; edges toned and lightly foxed; a little off-setting to front endpaper and front board slightly bowed at the bottom. Original and unclipped dust jacket has some rubbing, chipping and wear to the top with a stain to the inside, and is now protected in a high-quality archival cover. A good copy of a contemporary classic.

1977 Unpublished Interview on "Athletes Series" - SIGNED Original Audio Cassette with 40 MINUTES OF RECORDED INTERVIEW

      - Original cassette tape, autographed by the artist himself, of a 1977 interview with Warhol conducted by a journalist for Australian Women's Weekly. Together with a clipping of the article that resulted, about Warhol's new "Athletes Series." Warhol has signed on a strip of masking tape on the cassette (acting on his own suggestion that the interviewer should ask all her subjects to sign their tapes!). Audio in fine quality, with a slight background humming and one period of lower volume, but voices distinct throughout. The signed strip of tape measures 3 x 0.25 inches (7 x 0.5 cm). Together with a signed and notarized letter from the interviewer. A unique item from the influential artist. The tape contains 40 minutes of audio, which was quoted in the article but has never been released or published in full. The purpose of the interview, conducted at Warhol's Factory in New York's Union Square (in an area that once had been the boardroom of S & H Green Stamps), was to discuss his series of portraits of top athletes, commissioned earlier that year by Richard L. Weisman. Weisman sits in on the interview as well. Voices heard are those of Warhol, Weisman and Kathleen Brady, who conducted the article, as well as some of Warhol's staff. Warhol discusses his love of the Polaroid Big Shot camera; his telling Muhammad Ali to be quiet so he could take his photo; Australia's appreciation for contemporary art, especially Pollock's Blue Poles; and the beauty of New York's Twin Towers. He describes O.J. Simpson as "so interesting" and "beautiful," also commenting that Campbell's Soup should be served on airplanes, among other topics. Weisman has particular praise for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. On side 2, three minutes of the tape are faint because Warhol, Weisman and Brady stepped away from the recorder and towards some of the art under discussion.Richard Weisman commissioned 8 sets of the "Athlete Series," hand-painted and silk-screened images of sports stars including O.J. Simpson, Pele, Jack Nicklaus, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, from Warhol in 1977, paying $800,000 for 80 pieces. After donating several sets of the prints to universities, the athletes themselves, and several sports halls of fame, Weisman lost the remaining sets in a 2009 theft from his home.

The Silmarillion, 1982 Super Deluxe Limited Numbered Edition

Allen & Unwin, London 1977 - 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. Originally published by Allen and Unwin in 1977, reserved and later bound in Red Leather and released in 1982. This is the Super Deluxe Limited Numbered Edition. "This is copy number 189 of the first one thousand copies off the press of the first edition of The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, reserved for later publication in this collector's edition." A Near Fine example of the very hard to find Super Deluxe Limited Edition issued to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the first publication of The Silmarillion. Collected and edited by Christopher Tolkien after his fathers death. Original publishers full red leather binding, with raised bands, gilt stamping, and top edge gilded as issued. The book features red silk ribbon marker bound in, raised bands and gilt stamped Title, Author, and Publisher on the spine. The front boards features the JRRT Monogram gilt stamped in single gilt ruled box. Blind stamp of the heraldic device Tolkien designed to represent Luthien Tinuviel to the rear boards. On the first free endpaper, the Publisher's Limitation Plate, gives the Limitation number of 189 of 1000. The map of Beleriand and the Lands to the North appears as a fold-out map, and is printed in black and red, no tears or marks noted, very clean and bright. Noted points or error's: Page 330 line 4 shows no period after Feanor. Page 352 line 39 has an italicized "and" in 'Lord of Waters and King of the Sea'. Making this the First State of the First Impression, not surprising being one of the first 1000 printed. A striking example of a very hard to find book. Matches in size and style the 1987 Unwin Hyman Super Deluxe Limited Edition of the Hobbit. No foxing, no previous owners name or any other writing. The only fault to the book is a slight bit of fading to the red leather on the spine, no offsetting, no scratches or shelfwear to the bottom edge of the boards. The slipcase is the original publishers slipcase with the opening edged with matching red leather, also in Near Fine condition with light rubbing to the bottom edges and corners of the red cloth covering. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested. Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions. Near Fine / No Jacket, as Issued.

London: Allen & Unwin, 1977. Limited/Numbered. Full-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket, as Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

"Vali: The Witch of Positano" and "Dope: The London Drug Scene" Midnight Movies presented by New York Theatre Ensemble (Original Poster)

New York: New York Theatre Ensemble, 1977. Original poster for a Midnight Movies series hosted by the New York Theatre Ensemble's "Artists Present Artists" series in September and October 1977, featuring two films directed by Sheldon and Diane Rochlin, "Vali: The Witch of Positano" (1965) and "Dope: The London Drug Scene" (1968). Diane Rochlin later changed her professional name to Flame Schon. Two very different films from the husband and wife diectorial team. Vali Myers stars as the titular character in "Vali: The With of Positano," an anti-clerical trance film about a modern-day witch living in a cave in Italy. Vali appears in a smaller role along with young drug victim Caroline Thomson in "Dope: The London Drug Scene," a sparse verité study of London's underground drug world, with music by Geno Foreman and footage of an early (Syd Barrett-era) Pink Floyd concert at UFO. Co-director Sheldon Rochlin was active in the New York theatre world, and directed the definitive documentary about The Living Theatre, "Signal Through the Flames" (1983). The Off Broadway New York Theatre Ensemble was a perfect environment for the small, but groundbreaking, underground works, and in retrospect makes for an interesting connection between cinema and theatre in Rochlin's work. 15.5 x 10 inches, black and white photocopy with silkscreened red ink applied. Small chip at the top margin, else Near Fine.

        Quartet in Autumn (Signed)

Macmillan 1977 - First edition, SECOND impression (October 1977), signed to the title page by Barbara Pym – very scarce, thus. Following the publication of No Fond Return of Love in 1961, her publisher, Jonathan Cape, rejected her subsequent novels and she was unable to secure another, a literary limbo broken only when Philip Larkin and Lord David Cecil named her as 'the most underrated novelist of the century' in the TLS in January 1977. Macmillan subsequently accepted Quartet in Autumn, which would go on to be shortlisted for the 1977 Booker Prize. Near Fine: firm and square binding in sharp black cloth; tiny bump to the bottom lower corner; a trace of very faint (barely perceptible) sporadic spotting to the fore-edge, else bright, crisp and clean. The unclipped dustwrapper (£3.95 net stated) is Near Fine: delightfully crisp and vibrant, Fine but for a little sunning to the spine; presented in a removable protective cover. All orders are sent very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
