His invention resulted in the company AB Defibrator in Stockholm which was merged with Sunds AB to form Sunds Defibrator in 1979. Asplund was rewarded the Gold medal (Guldmedaljen) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) in 1947 for the invention and his further development of the defibrator-method for pulping wood and other fibre rich materials. He was later rewarded the Great gold medal (Stora guldmedaljen) from IVA in 1969 for his efforts on defibration technology. The annual Arne Asplund Mechanical Pulping Award, was established in 1985 to commemorate Asplund's contributions to the pulp and paper industry." (Wikipedia). "Washi is a style of paper that was first made in Japan. Washi is commonly made using fibers from the bark of the gampi tree, the mitsumata shrub (Edgeworthia chrysantha), or the paper mulberry, but also can be made using bamboo, hemp, rice, and wheat. The word "washi" comes from wa 'Japanese' and shi 'paper', and the term is used to describe paper made by hand in the traditional manner. Washi is one of the UNESCO's Intangible cultural heritage objects." (Wikipedia)

Framed Typed Letter Signed about show business

1977 - American film director, who had a close friendship with Katharine Hepburn and many other celebrities. 1 page on personal stationery, 10.5 x 7.25 inches, no place, November 9, 1977. In this jovial letter, which includes five handwritten words, Cukor talks about mutual acquaintances in the entertainment industry and discusses his plans for upcoming projects, in part: "This is the life! What a racket - this writing reviews, biographies -- and cleaning up. Boy, it's lucky for you that I didn't find out how easy it is - I'd've gone after Ethel Merman myself. But from here on in, no holds barred! I'm in this for good - so watch out.I'm going to follow Liz Smith's invaluable and intelligent suggestion that I write 'MY FRIEND, GRETA'. No - I'd better not do that because Gaylor Hauser said 'She's my best friend.' I'll think up another title.I'm glad that it was happy times with Miss Merman; also that you talked yourself into getting one percent of the Cole Porter show. It gives me an idea, I'll get into that side of it later on -- writing musical shows." Three horizontal folds and a small stain near the bottom left corner, but overall in very good condition. Float-mounted above a 3.5 x 4.5-inch black-and-white photo of Cukor crouching outdoors on one knee with two dogs. Matted in gray and set in a white frame measuring 19 x 12 inches.       (No-place:: no-publisher,. August 4, 1977). Early draft of Robert Towne's screenplay for the 1984 movie "Greystroke," which was based on Burroughs' novel, TARZAN OF THE APES. The film was directed by Hugh Hudson with Christopher Lambert starring as "Tarzan" (the name is never used in the film's dialogue) and Andie MacDowell as Jane; the cast also included Sir Ralph Richardson, who received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Supporting Actor." Unfortunately Towne, who was apparently frustrated at being passed over for director, used the pseudonym "P. H. Vazak" (the name of his dog) for the film and so his Oscar nomination for "Best Adapted Screenplay" was under that name. 170 pages, printed on rectos only, clasp bound with black card covers. Plain white label on front with handwritten "GREYSTROKE / Rob't Towne"; title handwritten on "spine" (left-side page edges). Covers a little loose but holding, otherwise very good.
