Art Periodical - Sharp, Willoughby and Liza Bear, Editors
Avalanche, 1976. First edition. Paperback. Sold here together are the first twelve issues (of thirteen ever published) of Avalanche Magazine. Conceived of by Willoughby Sharp and edited by Sharp and Liza Bear, Avalanche was a highly regarded magazine devoted to conceptual artists. Per the Specific Object website, "Avalanche focused on art from the perspective of artists rather than critics, and investigated new forms of art that were developing in the U.S. and Europe with a radical new media format - probing interviews, extensive use of photography and dynamic layouts. For many artists, publication in Avalanche preceded a one-person gallery or museum show. Aside from an eight-page news section, the editorial content included only interviews by Sharp and or Bear, artists' texts and documents of art and art making, also functioning as an exhibition in print". All issues in at least good to very good condition. The format of the first eight issues was in a stapled 9" square format. The final five issues changed to an oversized folded newspaper format. Complete sets of this magazine seldom come to market. This offering lacks only issue #13 Summer 1976. Some of the artists featured in the pages of these issues included Vito Acconci, Robert Smithson, Jack Smith, Gordon Matta-Clark, Keith Sonnier, On Kawara, Joseph Beuys, Edward Ruscha and William Wegman to name a few. Very Good. [Attributes: First Edition]

Harper & Row, Publishers, 1976. First Edition, First Printing. This is a copy of the first U.S. edition, first printing (with number row ending in "5" and "First U.S. Edition" slug present. Subsequent printings removed the "First U.S. Edition" slug). Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in archival protective cover. SIGNED with a lengthy inscription in Spanish by author and Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Marquez on the second blank page. There is no conventional plot, only chronologically scrambled episodes that take the protagonist General from a deformed, charismatic stud into a mindless blood beast, imprisoned on the throne of illusions his very power creates, coming to think of himself as a God and even naming his son Emanuel. The book is a supreme polemic, a spiritual expose of an attack against any society that encourages or even permits the growth of such a monstrosity. SIGNED copies of this title are quite RARE. 1976. All enquiries : aqualibris@rocketmail.com A superb work. The Iliade, Homer, translated by the Nobel Literature Prize winner Salvatore Quasimodo, here illustrated by Georgio De Chirico with 26 full colour lithographs, in a precious olive wood box with gilt title, the text in Italian with original Greek text included, the text pages, luxuriously printed on heavy art stock contained in a goatskin folio with a sculptural bas-relief disc on front cover. Rare, said to have be issued by Delfino-Edizoni D' Arte in a Limited Edition of 1500 copies, in Rome, however, far fewer have ever made their way onto the world market, this book is quite scarce according to auction records for the past 40 years since publication - quite possibly fewer than 1500 copies were actually printed. Title in red and black, decorative chapter headings and drawings for each chapter, additional to the 26 paintings made by Georgio De Chirico to illustrate The Iliade. Below are photos of this impressive folio, measuring 50cm X 35cm, the depth of the olive wood box containing the lithographs approx. 5cm, the spine of the goatskin folio containing the text, printed on heavy art paper ( the text papers similar to Arches or Fabriano) is also about 5cm. A beautiful near fine copy, stating near fine due to age, the olive wood boards of the box have slightly separated due to their age, on the base of the box, internally, very minor marginal yellowing. 1976. A complete run in 9 issues of the groundbreaking French feminist quarterly "bande dessinée" or comics magazine, featuring work almost entirely by international women artists, together with essays on other female-centric media and culture including books, television, film, and music, and special features on often provocative social and political themes including racism and anti-Semitism, homosexuality and transsexuality, incest, and sado-masochism. Illustrated profusely throughout with comics, cartoons, and photographs. 4to. Orig. illustrated wrpps. with colorful graphic cover designs, some minor wear to wrpps., no. 9 with some minor loss to spine. Paris (Les Humanoïdes Associés) 1976-1978. Ah! Nana was an innovative but short-lived publication. At the time, comics were an almost exclusively male domain, but this magazine, with the slogan "fait par et pour les femmes", was the first French publication created entirely by women, although occasional male contributors were included. Women artists were often pigeon-holed into illustrating children's books, and were excluded from conferences and important events. However, Ah! Nana fully embraced the French feminist movement together with the underground culture: along with comics, it included a feature called "Histoire de la BD Féminine," which profiled female cartoonists from all over the world. Some of the artists whose work was included over the run of the publication include Chantal Montellier, Florence Cestac, Nicole Claveloux, Trina Robbins, Shary Flenniken, Sharon Rudhal, Mary Kay Brown, Aline Isserman, and Cecilia C … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bradbury, Ray
1976. First Edition. Ephemera. Fine. 11 leaves, 6 by 8 inches, written on one side only. An original poem handwritten in a burst of inspiration in late June 1976, as the Viking spacecraft was entering Martian orbit. The poem was published in the Los Angeles Times on Sunday, June 27, 1976, and in the September Bradbury special issue of Xenophile (#26). The published text in the Times is different in many small ways and significantly at the end, omitting the entire last page of the manuscript. The history of the poem is given in notes written by Bradbury in the margins and between the lines on the first page: "Written in Disney projection room! R.B." Followed by, "Ray Bradbury, written on Thursday, June __, 1976. 10:30-10:37 A.M. then to Times at 12:30 that morn." This note seems to have been written after the fact as Bradbury was unsure of the exact date which, if it was a Thursday, was probably either June 17 or 24. The final note reads, "And now for Bruce Francis with love from R.B. Oct. 6, 1978." Francis was a friend of Bradbury's and a fellow author. With the original envelope, addressed by Bradbury in two colors of ink, both of which are used in the manuscript. Autograph manuscripts from Bradbury are scarce. Fine.

Schleimann
LIKE NEW. ONE-OF-A-KIND LEATHERBOUND SET by Heinrich Schleimann, privately rebound 1976 editions. Extremely rare. Look absolutely great on a shelf next to your Easton Press titles. Towards the end of last century, a shabbily dressed old scholar was to be seen wandering over an obscure mound in Asia Minor. In his coat pocket he always carried copies of the Iliad or the Odyssey. He had discovered ancient Troy. Most unscientific of archaeologist, Heinrich Schliemann nevertheless founded the modern science of archeology. Schliemann had made four fortunes. He had traveled half the world, sired three children by a Russian wife, and learned a dozen languages. Perseverance had turned this penniless grocer clerk into the successful businessman personified. Yet for many years his wealth had tasted like ashes. He still did not know what he wanted. Then, while studying philology at the Sorbonne in his 46th year, he remembered the stories of the ancient Greek heroes--and set out to uncover buried Troy. his search was quickened by a fierce hunger for gold. Instinctively he chose his spots and ordered the workmen to dig. twice he discovered great treasures of gold. Then he secured a divorce and asked a Greek bishop to find him a new wife who was good, beautiful and an enthusiast for Homer. With the lovely seventeen-year old Sophia, whom he chose from a photograph, he began his most successful archaeological excavations. Against hope, against all the evidence, this strange man discovered the walls of Troy, King Priam's palace and enough antiquities to furnish a whole museum. These leather … [Click Below for Full Description]
