Norman F. Maclean
University of Chicago Press, 1976. Condition: Good. LOWEST PRICES / HIGHEST QUALITY BEST FEEDBACK RECORD IN EBAY HISTORY!! Over 30,000 books sold with 100% positive feedback! Title: A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT Author: Norman Maclean Publisher: University of Chicago Date: 1976 First Edition, in dust jacket, signed by the author. "In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing." A very rare association copy, signed by the author, with an equally interesting provenance. The book was a gift from Maclean to a fellow University of Chicago faculty member, Andy Armstrong. Armstrong himself was a fascinating figure. Originally in advertising, he was given the account for a small women's cigarette called "Marlboro" and charged with broadening its appeal. He came up with the "Marlboro Man" cowboy concept in the mid-50's. With a minimal budget, the ruggedly handsome Armstrong became the first "Marlboro Man" in commercials at that time. Though greatly successful, Armstrong decided to leave advertising and return to college. He ultimately became a professor at Shimer College, an experimental college of the University of Chicago. There he met Maclean, and the two became friends, vacationing together with their families in the cottage Maclean describes in "River." When Maclean published his landmark book, he gave a signed copy to Armstrong, When Andy Armstrong died, the book passed on to his daughter, Margaret. She then gave it as a gift to the playwright Joe Starzyk. The inscriptions from Margaret to Joe in the book fuel speculation that the two had more than a platon … [Click Below for Full Description]

[REID, Jamie]: [Sex Pistols]
np, 1976. First Edition. Handbill. 8 1/4" x 11 3/4". Printed recto only. Very good with some flattened creases and a 1/3" edge tear on the bottom. Artwork by Jamie Reid, featuring a repeated image of Rotten/Lydon snarling into a mic. Very Good. Beginning in 1976, The Sex Pistols' took up Tuesday night residency at the 100 Club (a venue better known until then for jazz), gigs that would be pivotal for the band. As Jon Savage has written in his definitive ENGLAND'S DREAMING: "In the intimate setting of the 100 Club, the group could relax enough to take risks with their material and their performances. There they began to master their equipment, using the acoustics of the small club to experiment with overload, feedback and distortion. Electric amplification had provided much of the excitement of early Rock'n'Roll: pushing their equipment to the limit [...] the Sex Pistols twisted their limited repertoire into a noise as futuristic as their rhetoric" (177). The club also served as location for the famed 100 Club Punk Special, a two-day festival featuring the Pistols, The Damned, The Buzzcocks, The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and other unsigned acts, an event that was instrumental in bringing punk to the mainstream. It was also at the 100 Club pogoing was first invented, a development often attributed to Sid Vicious, but more likely simply fans' practical response to poor visibility in the tight confines of the club. Describing the June 29th date (of which bootlegs exist), Savage writes: "[B]ut the 100 Club take is something else. Here the Pistols are wound up to a pitch … [Click Below for Full Description]

1976. All enquiries : aqualibris@rocketmail.com A superb work. The Iliade, Homer, translated by the Nobel Literature Prize winner Salvatore Quasimodo, here illustrated by Georgio De Chirico with 26 full colour lithographs, in a precious olive wood box with gilt title, the text in Italian with original Greek text included, the text pages, luxuriously printed on heavy art stock contained in a goatskin folio with a sculptural bas-relief disc on front cover. Rare, said to have be issued by Delfino-Edizoni D' Arte in a Limited Edition of 1500 copies, in Rome, however, far fewer have ever made their way onto the world market, this book is quite scarce according to auction records for the past 40 years since publication - quite possibly fewer than 1500 copies were actually printed. Title in red and black, decorative chapter headings and drawings for each chapter, additional to the 26 paintings made by Georgio De Chirico to illustrate The Iliade. Below are photos of this impressive folio, measuring 50cm X 35cm, the depth of the olive wood box containing the lithographs approx. 5cm, the spine of the goatskin folio containing the text, printed on heavy art paper ( the text papers similar to Arches or Fabriano) is also about 5cm. A beautiful near fine copy, stating near fine due to age, the olive wood boards of the box have slightly separated due to their age, on the base of the box, internally, very minor marginal yellowing. With facsimile 1968 dated inscription by Salvatore Quasimodo. A remarkable work in every aspect. Please see photos. All enquiries: aqualibris@rocketmail.com SHIP … [Click Below for Full Description]

J R R Tolkien
Folio Society. The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, by J.R.R. Tolkien. These are the 1976 Folio Edition, 1st Impressions. This set of two books, are the first Folio Society publication of The Hobbit. They are examples of the two Folio Society variants, both in Near Fine condition with slipcases. These are the true 1st printings of the 1st Folio Edition. Brown cloth and leather. (Maroon coloured edition being the 2nd printing of the Folio edition as per Hammond). Here you have both states with one having the Folio Society Title page, and the second Title page does not state "Folio Society" as it should, instead the pages are identical to the 1976 A&U Deluxe edition!Per Hammond, the Folio Society was to take the Deluxe edition pages and remove certain pages from the beginning (title page, copyright page, etc) and replace them with the Folio pages. However, a very few of the books were bound by the Folio Society with all of the original Deluxe pages included and not replaced with Folio pages, but with the binding being the Folio format.Very Scarce indeed!Very unusual and extremely hard to find both variants. [Talking Heads]
np, 1976. First Edition. Oblong broadside, 8.5" x 11". Offset printed. One corner chipped. Faintly folded in half. Mild wear. Very good or better. Very good. Early flyer for this pair of dates by Talking Heads, predating their first album and even their record contract (they would sign to Sire in November). In addition, these dates at NYC's short-lived Ocean Club were among the first Jerry Harrison played with the band (though he didn't officially join until the following month): "I came down to NY to play together -- I was living in Boston at the time. I was quite poor so I helped move someone to New York in his van. When we finished there was not enough room for my keyboards so I just took a guitar. When I arrived they said 'Where's your keyboards?' And I said there was no room, but let's play together - I'll just use a guitar. We started and it was magic immediately." Despite this nascent moment in the band's career, however, the simple typographic elegance of this flyer shows their identity was already firmly in place. And a similarly styled flyer for a Kitchen appearance the same year reproduced in TALKING HEADS CHRONOLOGY strongly suggests this is a band if not Byrne design. An excellent bootleg of the second of these shows remains widely available (also featuring saxophonist Fletcher Buckley). Just about the earliest flyer from this defining band we've encountered. Gabriel García Marquez
Harper & Row, Publishers, 1976. First Edition, First Printing. This is a copy of the first U.S. edition, first printing (with number row ending in "5" and "First U.S. Edition" slug present. Subsequent printings removed the "First U.S. Edition" slug). Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in archival protective cover. SIGNED with a lengthy inscription in Spanish by author and Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Marquez on the second blank page. There is no conventional plot, only chronologically scrambled episodes that take the protagonist General from a deformed, charismatic stud into a mindless blood beast, imprisoned on the throne of illusions his very power creates, coming to think of himself as a God and even naming his son Emanuel. The book is a supreme polemic, a spiritual expose of an attack against any society that encourages or even permits the growth of such a monstrosity. SIGNED copies of this title are quite RARE. Schleimann
LIKE NEW. ONE-OF-A-KIND LEATHERBOUND SET by Heinrich Schleimann, privately rebound 1976 editions. Extremely rare. Look absolutely great on a shelf next to your Easton Press titles. Towards the end of last century, a shabbily dressed old scholar was to be seen wandering over an obscure mound in Asia Minor. In his coat pocket he always carried copies of the Iliad or the Odyssey. He had discovered ancient Troy. Most unscientific of archaeologist, Heinrich Schliemann nevertheless founded the modern science of archeology. Schliemann had made four fortunes. He had traveled half the world, sired three children by a Russian wife, and learned a dozen languages. Perseverance had turned this penniless grocer clerk into the successful businessman personified. Yet for many years his wealth had tasted like ashes. He still did not know what he wanted. Then, while studying philology at the Sorbonne in his 46th year, he remembered the stories of the ancient Greek heroes--and set out to uncover buried Troy. his search was quickened by a fierce hunger for gold. Instinctively he chose his spots and ordered the workmen to dig. twice he discovered great treasures of gold. Then he secured a divorce and asked a Greek bishop to find him a new wife who was good, beautiful and an enthusiast for Homer. With the lovely seventeen-year old Sophia, whom he chose from a photograph, he began his most successful archaeological excavations. Against hope, against all the evidence, this strange man discovered the walls of Troy, King Priam's palace and enough antiquities to furnish a whole museum. These leather … [Click Below for Full Description]

Art - Roth, Dieter
Edition Hansjorg Mayer, 1976. First edition. Spiral_bound. Volume 1 of the collected artist books of Dieter Roth. Decorated clamshell cardboard box containing two distinct "children's books" and a separate one page sheet with title and printing information. From an edition of one thousand copies. The first book is entitled Kinderbuch and consists of 28 pp of color screenprints and die-cuts. Fine condition in plastic spiral binding. The second book, Bilderbuch, is 23 pp, housed in a two-ring binder and contains color acetate and white paper, die cut. A near fine copy. The box itself shows some heavy wear with splits at corners and some creases as if a weight was placed on it at some point. This copy benefits, however, from the fact that it has been INSCRIBED by Roth to fellow RISD artist/photographer Mary Kocol. The inscription is dated May 1986 in Providence which was the time and place of a Dieter Roth retrospective exhibit at The Rhode Island School of Design. Dieter spent a year at RISD in the mid-1960's as a visiting artist. Although he signed many books in his lifetime, books inscribed by Dieter are not common, and copies inscribed to fellow artists are even more desirable. Listed in Aaron's and Roth's In Numbers - Serial Publications by Artists Since 1955. Very Good. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]
