Arabian Peninsula].
Oxford & Abu Dhabi, OUP, 1976. 851 x 813 mm. Colour-printed folding map of the Arabian Peninsula, reviewed by Dr. M. A. el-Farra, showing elevations and areas under cultivation. It pays particular attention to oil fields (naming them) and illustrating oil pipelines, including underwater pipelines. The map labels the Gulf the "Arabian Gulf" and favours Emirati maritime claims. In the Strait of Hormuz, the U.A.E. is shown owning the islands "Bani Tanb" and "Tanb-e bozorg". The map records some of the problematic borders within the region, showing the Iraq-Saudi Neutral Zone, the Kuwaiti-Saudi Neutral Zone, the Kuwaiti-Iranian maritime border (with the Esfandiar oilfield in the center), and Saudi Arabia's undetermined southern border. The UAE is shown bordering Qatar - this technically changed in 1974, but was not made public until 1995: the Saudi/UAE border dispute was apparently resolved with the Treaty of Jeddah, which was signed at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 21 August 1974. The provisions of the treaty were not publicly disclosed until 1995, when it was lodged with the United Nations. However, the United Arab Emirates never ratified the agreement. The map also shows the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, a Soviet satellite state the existed from 1970-1990. - Two small stains along the central horizontal fold. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Pieter Engels & Simon Es
BAMM 1976-1977, Amsterdam. Pieter Engels folding print/posters. 'BAMM: Brain-squad against mass-communication and mediocrity'. Pieter Engels, 9 ‘Project Owlglass’ posters, published by the artist / BAMM: Brain-squad against mass-communication and mediocrity, Amsterdam, 1976-77.The conceptual Dutch artist Pieter Engels created a fictional publicist called 'Simon Es'. Together, Engels and Es called themselves 'BAMM: Brain-squad against mass-communication and mediocrity'. These folding prints were sent out to various art world recipients as cynical, banal and humorous publicity information sheets. They create a subversive dialogue on conceptual art and the cult of the artist. Many of the prints are both exhibition posters and artist's conceptual prints. All prints are 780 x 520 mm. Often printed double-sided black on white stock, with three of the posters printed in two colours: black and gold.Project Owlglass (unnumbered) The first show of Simon Es, works about EngelsPrinted double sided. Eric Carle
tears to jacket. No writing except that of the creator/author/artist. For those in the know.... this is actually a very low price for this book. Yes! An original 1976 Eric Carle's Story Book with 7 stories by the Brother's Grimm! Not only signed by Eric Carle in HUGE purple crayon, but a drawing with crayons in multi color so may classify this as a Carle painting in crayon, of I believe....Carle HIMSELF!? Yes, it is personalized but in this case, I believe adds to the authenticity nature of the moment in which it was done! Not to mention, the motive behind Carle to use crayons, the message he was sending to "Margaret". Imagine what Margaret was thinking or more so the message that Carle was sending when she saw the great artist pull out his crayons to sign! An adult using crayon!? (he's still a kid but all grown up!) Big bold purple signature! Big bold personalized to Margaret! Big doodle in crayon of character "presenting" his storybook! GREAT piece by the iconic writer artist! Jacket is present and in good un-clipped $5.95 price intact with a few small tears and small losses to top and bottom of spine. The important aspect of this item is obviously the drawing by E Carle. This would look great framed but I believe as a first edition, the book should remain intact if framed up. Again, this is a super low price if you are not aware, Carle has promised all his original art to a museum and it's only through these types of items which his art surfaces. Books simply signed by Carle sell @ $1000. This book has a drawing, which is why the original price was fair @$2000, or more! … [Click Below for Full Description]

Louise Nevelson
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons. In well used condition with original notes from Nevelson. LOUISE NEVELSON Book FILLED w/HandwrittenNotes from Nevelson * Dawns Dusks 1976 LOUISE NEVELSON Book FILLED w/HandwrittenNotes from Nevelson * Dawns Dusks 1976 This is an interesting find. It's 1976's "Dawns + Dusks - Conversations with Diana MacKown" from famed sculptor and artist, Louise Nevelson. On the surface, this is a run-of-the-mill copy of a not too rare book. And it's a book that's not in great shape. Curled edges and corners. And TONS of notes and underlining. But that's what makes this one so special. At some point in time, Nevelson, who passed away in 1988, apparently had this particular book in her hands. I don't think she was the owner. She simply expanded the book with lots of notes, underlining and signatures. Go ahead and take a look at the pictures. I've provided a sample of her signature. (It's the final picture - taken from FindArtInfo.com) ) Then take a look at the signature and notes on the title page. And the signature under the watercolor on page 19 of Rockland High School. Or under Sky Cathedral on page 134. Or her own photo on page 124. Listen, as far as I can tell, the handwriting and signatures match up. There are other notes in the margins keeping tabs of reading progress from what appears to be 1997. It was an unexpected treasure found in a southern California thrift store. This, fans of Louise Nevelson, is something special. Notes. Underlining. And a peek inside the mind of a genius. Will be shipped USPS Priority Mail with a signature required. John Dryden
Kentfield, California: 1976. Condition: Fine. One of 140 copies, folio size, [54] unnumbered leaves, with original prospectus. The forty-second limited edition from The Allen Press, being the masterpiece of John Dryden (1631-1700). "Dryden was England's greatest poet-dramatist in the period between Shakespeare and the writers of the late nineteenth century, and his romantic tragedy of Antony and Cleopatra is one of the world's noblest classics. Antony has been described as intelligent, brawny, ribald, with an easy going nature - primarily a soldier. Cleopatra, who ruled the wealthiest territory in the East, was then (first century B.C.) the greatest queen on earth. In addition to her famed feminine pulchritude, historians extolled her vitality, intelligence, and intellectual-cultural virtues" (per the book's prospectus). Lewis and Dorothy Allen selected this text after a 1971 safari to Egypt. The portrait of Cleopatra on papyrus was furnished by Dr. Hassan Ragab of the Papyrus Institute, one of 140 paintings painted by several of Cairo's finest artist-craftsmen especially for this edition. DESCRIPTION: Original ecru cloth from France with title printed in vermilion to upper board and backstrip, title-page printed in black and vermilion, gilt and seven-color frontisportrait of Cleopatra on papyrus tipped-in with translucent oriental paper guard, each of the five Acts opens with an engraving which was hand illuminated by Dorothy Allen, the margins of each text page are decorated with Egyptian hieroglyphs and symbols in a sequence in four colors and black; handset Unciala and … [Click Below for Full Description]

Syl LABROT
New York: Eclipse, 1976. Condition: Fine in an almost fine jacket. Because of its size, true collector's copies are uncommon. First Edition. Large oblong quarto. Underrated artist book by a photographer who worked more often in commercial jobs than a fine art context. Published same year as Eggleston's Guide, this technically innovative book uses an unusual color palette set on deep blacks that prefigures the graphic digital futurism of the 1980s. Labrot's experiments conjures images not unlike the photography of Lucas Samaras. The image and color laying processes anticipates the techniques and style of computer generated digital graphics. 1976. All enquiries : aqualibris@rocketmail.com A superb work. The Iliade, Homer, translated by the Nobel Literature Prize winner Salvatore Quasimodo, here illustrated by Georgio De Chirico with 26 full colour lithographs, in a precious olive wood box with gilt title, the text in Italian with original Greek text included, the text pages, luxuriously printed on heavy art stock contained in a goatskin folio with a sculptural bas-relief disc on front cover. Rare, said to have be issued by Delfino-Edizoni D' Arte in a Limited Edition of 1500 copies, in Rome, however, far fewer have ever made their way onto the world market, this book is quite scarce according to auction records for the past 40 years since publication - quite possibly fewer than 1500 copies were actually printed. Title in red and black, decorative chapter headings and drawings for each chapter, additional to the 26 paintings made by Georgio De Chirico to illustrate The Iliade. Below are photos of this impressive folio, measuring 50cm X 35cm, the depth of the olive wood box containing the lithographs approx. 5cm, the spine of the goatskin folio containing the text, printed on heavy art paper ( the text papers similar to Arches or Fabriano) is also about 5cm. A beautiful near fine copy, stating near fine due to age, the olive wood boards of the box have slightly separated due to their age, on the base of the box, internally, very minor marginal yellowing. With facsimile 1968 dated inscription by Salvatore Quasimodo. A remarkable work in every aspect. Please see photos. All enquiries: aqualibris@rocketmail.com SHIP … [Click Below for Full Description]

Wyatt, Leo
[Newcastle on Tyne: Leo Wyatt, 1973-1976]. Each engraving is one of 75 copies, signed and dated by the artist in the lower margin. 1 vols. The images, of various sizes, average 8-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches, plus generous margins. Rare Copper and Wood Engravings by Leo Wyatt. Leo Wyatt's profession was that of designing and engraving steel dies and copper plates. In his late fifties, challenged by the assertion that famed English wood engraver Reynolds Stone was seemingly "the sole practitioner of the Chancery Cursive letter in engraved form today" he began to engrave lettterheads and bookplates on wood utilizing this classic letter form. He also created separate alphabets and engraved quotations, bringing samples with him on two trips to America, in 1977 and 1978 where he found a new popularity and market for his work, although suites of his engravings, such as those offered here, remain extremely rare. He died in 1981. Taylor, Leo Wyatt's Little Book of Alphabets, Introduction. One copperplate faintly toned, otherwise all very fine condition. In blue wrappers, with paper label.
