A complete run in 24 issues of the feminist French arts and literature journal, founded by Xavière Gauthier (pseudonym of Mireille Boulaire) with the goal of giving women a place to express themselves freely through writing and imagery, including prose and poetry, each issue corresponding to a specific theme or topic and with an individual subtitle, themes include food, prostitution, prisoners, death, blood, desires, and many others. Profusely illustrated throughout. Lg. 8vo. Orig. wrpps. Paris 1976-1982. Over the course of its publication, many well-known artist and writers made contributions to Sorcières, including Hélène Cixous, Annie Leclerc, Marguerite Duras, Chantal Chawaf, Nancy Huston, Viviane Forrester, and Julia Kristeva, et. al.         Brutus Killed Caesar

1976. 108708 BALDESSARI, John. Brutus Killed Caesar. [4] pp. Illustrated with 33 photographic tryptichs. Oblong 8vo., 100 x 275 mm, bound in publisher's spiral-bound wrappers. Preserved in tan cloth box. Akron: The Emily H. Davis Art Gallery of The University of Akron, [1976].$ 2500.00 First Edition. Printed in a limited edition. The artist John Baldessari juxtaposes three images in a tryptich format. Each page repeats the use of the same two portraits: an young man on the left and and an older man on the right. The center image then creates the crucial dialogue between the other two - Baldessari makes use of a variety of objects that could all be used as murder weapons - some a bit more mundane than others: a kitchen knife, a banana peel, an apple and a revolver, a cue ball, a briefcase a wire coat hanger, among others. A very fine copy of this conceptual artist's book.

The American Monument

The Eakins Press Foundation, New York 1976 - 1/2000. Oblong folio (12 x 17"). Unpaginated. [2] leaves (Title page, and a quote by Walt Whitman), [77] leaves (Photographs), [6] leaves (Text). Original triple screw post bound blue-green cloth with black lettering to spine and front cover.Splendidly illustrated throughout with 213 duo-tone photographs scrupulously reproduced and bound ledger-style, "The American Monument" is a humorous, lyrical, and excessive expression of a country's obsession with immortalizing itself. Writing in "The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century," Vince Aletti describes "The American Monument" as "almost maniacally inclusive, rounding up everything from Plymouth Rock to a plaque commemorating the Pony Express in Salt Lake City and treating them with the same nonchalance. The doggedness of Friedlander's quest is at once astounding and hilarious. History stalks the landscape at every turn." A brilliant book, conceptually ambitious in the manner of the New Topographic school of Adams and Baltz, but with a deadpan wit that is Friedlander's own. Parr and Badger writing in "The Photobook: A History" go even further in their unqualified praise for this book: "The American Monument" is an encyclopedic lesson in how to put a picture together."One of 2,000 unnumbered copies.Slight age-toning to covers.         PACIFIC OVERTURES (Bound Presentation Score)

New York: Privately Printed, 1976. Sondheim, Stephen. Thomas Z. Shepard. PACIFIC OVERTURES, Original Dye-Line Copy of the Autograph Musical Manuscript, Composer's Score, Used in the Recording of the Broadway Cast Album. New York: Privately Printed, [1976-1977]. First (and only) printing, presumably limited to a small handful of presentation copies. Bound in green cloth (slightly abraded on the back cover), front and spine with "Pacific Overtures" lettered in gilt, this magnificent folio (15" by 12" by 1 ¼") is a warmly inscribed gift to Thomas Z. Shepard, Producer of the RCA Broadway cast soundtrack of PACIFIC OVERTURES (and a winner of 12 Grammy Awards for his various Broadway cast recordings, including several by Sondheim) from the Music Preparation team of Mathilde Pincus and Al Miller. Pincus and Miller prepared this Pacific Overtures score for the Conductor and the Orchestra Musicians via transcribing it into individual parts, with all the music as played originally in the Broadway Production, complete with all significant instrumental cues. Near Fine condition with great eye appeal. Laid in is a copy of a photograph of the recording session featuring the team of Thomas Z. Shepard, Stephen Sondheim, Music Director Paul Gemignani, Kenneth Glancy (RCA company president) and Hal Prince. Mr. Shepard has hand-written their names on the back of the photocopy along with a sentiment ("the sessions were joyous") re: their collaboration. This folio is inscribed on the ffep: "Dear Tom: To our dear, dear friend. We hope the next book we present will be your very own opera. Love Mathilde and Al, May 27th, 1977." There is also a later ink inscription by Shepard gifting this book to a collector. Thomas Z. Shepard's archive is already residing at Yale University; it contains virtually every item related to his prolific career so this is an exceedingly rare escapee. . Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.

NY Rocker February 1976-December 1977, New York - 30 x 42.5cm, 10 volumes (ca 20-60pp each). Numerous Black & White plates. A little fragile with some edge chipping, but in remarkably good condition considering the age and nature of publication. The early downtown NY punk/rock scene in all it's glory. From a map of where everybody lives to hundereds of photographs of who was who at CBGB's, Max's and the like to profiles of The Ramones, Patti Smith, New York Dolls, Television, Richard Hell, The Runaways, Iggy, Blondie, Cherry Vanilla, Mink DeVille, Mapplethorpe, John Cale and english people (Pistols, Clash etc.) In many cases NY rocker was the first on the scene, when it was a much smaller affair. Texts and photography are phenomenal, and comprise one of the most complete records of underground rock and the downtown scene during the period. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Zutphen, De Walburg Pers, 1976. Portfolio cloth-covered boards with letterpress-title, 67,5 x 53 cms., containing a colophon-sheet with printed text in handwriting by Paul Citroen + number '64' in pencil [from an edition of 100 copies], containing 12 lithographs in black&white, approx. 65,5 x 50,5 cms., each NUMBERED '64/100' AND SIGNED, depicting portraits of Mara, Lyda, Ella, Jan Cremer, Piet Clement, Mieke, Mart Kempers, Ellenor, Nora, Willem Sandberg, Anneloor and Christi, each signed, dated -'76- and titled by Citroen, each numbered '64/100' in pencil, printed by Piet Clement and Henk van Leeuwen. Citroen, Paul.

1 TLS (Typed Letter Signed) on the Wild Bunch, March 6, 1976

1976. Typed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, signed by Sam Peckinpah on March 6, 1976 from the Hotel Konigshorf where he was residing. The Wild Bunch was the first realistic violent film of the Old West. When the studio decided to screen it in Kansas City, the audience reacted violently, some were throwing up, others threatening the operator of the projector while Sam Peckinpaugh looked down with delight and said that he was ready to take on all comers himself if they burst into the booth. The studio issued instead a seriously cut version which made no sense but in this letter the fan wants to see the uncut version. Peckinpah here promises when he returns from Europe, he will be delighted to show the fan the real film (not the fan who claims to have seen the edited version 17 times). "Thanks you for your obvious support of the San Peckinpah Benevolent Fund. Every cent helps." A little damp staining to lower edge not affecting letter.
