        Roots

Doubleday, New York., 1976. First edition. A 587 page novel. Cloth-backed boards.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the front free endpaper: ''November 12, 1976 - Decca, lovely, talented, dedicated friend and colleague - who has helped me to sweat this book through - the family of Kunta Kinte wishes the very warmest best to you and Bob and your family.. With brotherly love! Alex Haley''. The recipient is Jessica Mitford, writer, academic, activist and, of course, one of the Mitford sisters. ''Bob'' is the civil rights lawyer Robert Neuhaft with whom she had two sons. Mitford was closely involved in the civil rights movement of the sixties, which is presumably when she met Alex Haley. Rowling states that Mitford had the most influence on her writing, so much so that she named one her children Jessica.Tail of spine slightly bumped. Aders e.a., Die Grafen Van Limburg Stirum, Teil I, Band I, Assen 1976, p.231-232"."Eerste druk van een zeldzaam boekje over Friesland door P.J. Gauthier.

La Plata: Edición de E. A. Vigo 1976-1980 - Limited Editions, each of the 3 issues a numbered edition from 200 copies. The issues are assembled from loose sheets, most measuring 9 x 7 inches, each housed in a cardboard folder, of which the later two are silkscreened by Vigo. The three volumes together make a complete set of all three volumes of "Sobre CC 2641900, International Book", a mail art generated artists' book organized by the Argentine artist Edgardo Antonio Vigo. Issues 1 and 2, produced in 1976 and 1977, each contain 26 contributions; the final volume, produced between 1978-1980, contains 27. The overall content, created by participants ranging from Argentina, South America, the United States, and Europe, reflects art trends in minimalism, conceptualism, generative systems, as well as Vigo's particular interest in constructivism and concrete, visual poetry. Many of the artworks are additionally tinged with political critiques; Vigo, then living under the harsh and violent Argentine military junta, developed mail art as an alternative network of political communications. Vigo appears to have asked his collaborators to create a single page 9 x 7 inch artwork; in Issue One only Genésis P. Orridge disregarded these instructions, but in later issues several other artists would break the format. Most of the works are signed or initialed by the various artists, all are numbered. Full contents of each issue as follows; International Book, 1976. Number 157/200.

Uniformly fine.. Limited Editions, each of the 3 issues a numbered edition from 200 copies. Total of 26 contributions, including Arethuse; Anna Banana; Diego Barboza; Julien Blaine; Paulo Bruscky; Jorge Carballo; Guillermo Deisler; G. J.         Original Tattoo Flash Art. 1976

      - Original art on thick cardstock poster board. Measuring 18.25" x 14.25". Faint stain in the lower left-hand margin, else near fine. Signed: "Drawn by Spike 1976." Colorful and attractive flash art (if a bit crude in spots) with nine images plus the artist's cartouche. The central image is of a lingerie-clad vixen astride a Confederate Flag-draped skull framed in a garland of cannabis leaves. Other images include fierce and colorful birds, a skull impaled on a barbed cross, a white stallion, the Keep on Truckin' man, etc. Anecdotally from the Virginia Beach, Virginia-area, but no evidence beyond the signature of the most excellent Spike. Flash art from an era when body art wasn't a required rite of passage into adolescence.
