        Original silk-screened poster: Historical Photo-Silkscreen Movie (from the "Calendario" of 1977)

      [San Francisco: Galeria de la Raza, 1976/77], 1977. Original screen-print in silver and black inks, 17-1/2" x 23" (44cm x 58cm). Printed on heavy paper, inscribed in pencil below image: "Para Rachel y Leon whom are a source of inspiration and familyhood. Con amor y corazon / René Yañez," dated 1977. Light bumps and creases at corners; paper slightly toned at extremities; image still clean and bright, Near Fine. & & From the Galeria de la Raza's "Calendario" for 1977. Chicano artists affiliated with the gallery produced these calendars, each consisting of thirteen original screenprints, beginning in the early Seventies. Individual prints were also sold in numbered editions. René Yañez was among the founders of the Galeria de la Raza in 1970, and is credited with being one of the first to popularize the phenomenon of the Día de los Muertos in the United States (a theme much in evidence in the present work). The inscription is to Rachel Romero and Leon Klayman, collaborators in the guerrilla art project The San Francisco Poster Brigade, which operated in San Francisco from about 1977 to 1980.

Accompanied by a copy of the separate printing of John Dreyfus' memoir of Dame Hildreth and the revived Press from THE BOOK COLLECTOR, inscribed by Dreyfus.

        Travesties. An original script for the American production Stoppard's 1974 play

      1976. Eighty-five loose-leaved sheets printed on rectos only, housed in a cardboard binder and dated February 2, 1976. On the title page is the printed text "Property of David Merrick Arts Foundation, Doris Cole Abrahams, Burry Fredriks". Very good. The US production of Stoppard's play opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on October 30 1975 and closed in March 1976 after 156 performances, winning Stoppard and producers Merrick, Abrahams and Fredriks the 1976 Tony Award for Best Play.. No Binding. Very Good.

      (Verona: Franco Riva, 1976). Folio. 37pp., + (6)ff. plates. One of 75 copies, signed by the poet. Six poems by the Italian poet and Nobel laureate Eugenio Montale, accompanied by six full-page etchings in sanguine of drawings by the poet. Several of the illustrations depict seaside scenes from the poet’s journal, drawn in a carefree style. A lovely production from an Italian private press, part of the series “I Poeti Illustrati.” Bound in full vellum, gilt-stamped on the front cover with the publisher’s insignia. Gilt to spine, with a red morocco label bearing the author’s name. Housed in a slipcase covered in marbled paper. Slipcase is beginning to crack along one side, else very fine.

      Raamin Presse Hamburg: Raamin-Presse, 1976. Quarto. (40)pp. From an edition of 170, this is one of twenty copies with an additional two plates signed and numbered by the printer and illustrator, Roswitha Quadflieg. Translated into German from the original French by Elmar Tophoven, the short story "L'Expulsé" ("The Expelled") first appeared in Fontaine in 1946 and was reprinted in the collection Nouvelles et Textes pour rien in 1955. The text is accompanied by eleven woodcuts by Quadflieg, which illustrate elements from the story, including the stairs down which the narrator is expelled, his hat, and the rather large old woman upon whom he falls. Bound by Christian Zwang in grayish-brown Fabriano paper blind-stamped on the spine and boards. Fine.

        EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES

      Houghton Mifflin Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1976. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine (with a closed tear at the top of the front panel). Signed by Robbins in green ink on the half-title page. His second, and most famous book. Basis for the big screen film (1993). Tells the tale of Sissy Hankshaw, a woman born with a mutation (she would not call it a defect) giving her enormously large thumbs. This novel is a transgressive romp, covering topics from homosexuality and free love to drug use and political rebellion to animal rights and body odor and religions. Sissy makes the most of her thumbs by becoming a hitchhiker.

This is copy number 13 of 22 hand-numbered copies with a Rimbaud piece Signed by Patti Smith bound in. The colophon indicates that there were 25 copies signed by both poets, but Verlaine signed none, and the handwritten limitation seems to indicate that there were 22 copies rather than either the 25 stated, or the 20 we've heard speculated. Rare. .
