        Alphabets

JOE DALLESANDRO: NUDE BLACK-AND-WHITE PHOTOGRAPH BY BRUCE OF LOS ANGELES - Rare Signed And Inscribed Vintage Original Silver-Gelatin Photographic Print - ONLY SIGNED COPY ONLINE

Los Angeles, CA: Bruce Of Los Angeles - 1st Printing. Signed. 1 pages. Published in . Rare Joe Dallesandro collectible item. A vintage original silver-gelatin print of the young model/actor, as photographed by Bruce of Los Angeles. The print measures 8 X 10 inches and is encased in two protective sheets: A glassine photographic sleeve which is placed inside an oversize thick plastic cover. It shows Dallesandro at the peak of his beauty: Extremely handsome and sexily buffed, in a full-frontal pose. He is shown holding and looking pensively at his fully erect penis, from a revealing profile angle. The image anticipates by about three decades Peter Hujar's most celebrated and beautiful nude, "Bruce de Saint Croix, 1976". This is not a digital print or a later, contemporary print but was printed directly from the original negative during Bruce of LA's lifetime. It is very beautifully developed, with great clarity and subtle contrasts, on Double-Weight Fiber photographic paper, the paper Bruce of LA used in his last years. "Coupled with the fact that it is unstamped but retains its white borders, it dates back to Bruce's lifetime rather than the later Kensington Road-era. Because this is one of the more erotic poses from Bruce's single session with Joe Dallesandro, it is a rare print in this large size and format" (Reed Massengill). Joe Dallesandro remains the cult icon/figure of Warhol's ground-breaking underground films, whose aesthetics and style anticipate by almost fifty years the deliberately crude and gritty sex films that appear routinely online today. Before he was discovered and turned into his very own superstar by Warhol, Joe Dallesandro was the muse of the great male-nude photographers. But it was Bruce of Los Angeles who was the very first to photograph him, in exactly one session. Warhol avidly collected all of the so-called "physique magazines". After his Warhol breakthrough, Dallesandro was photographed by Duane Michals, Jack Mitchell, Francesco Scavullo, and Richard Avedon, among many other mainstream photographers. The Avedon prints are proudly displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is the genuine article, a "must-have" collectible for Joe Dallesandro and male erotic art photography collectors. This is an original vintage silver-gelatin print, and it is very boldly and beautifully signed and inscribed in metallic-silver marker in front by the model/actor: "Dream on XXX Joe Dallesandro". The three X's stand for "love", of course, and is quite special as such. The recipient, Reed Massengill, is the leading authority on male erotic photography in America. According to Massengill, Dallesandro told him that he does not sign his "fully-erect" poses, making an exception in the case of a few of Massengill's print copies. This is the only such signed and inscribed copy of the print available online, is eminently suitable for framing, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a museum-quality, collector's copy. A collection of Dallesandro memorabilia (publicity stills, magazine covers, film outtakes; not one of them is an original print or signed) available online commands more than a staggering $7500. A rare, one-of-a-kind signed copy thus. One of the iconic American model/actors of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy.         The Missing Piece - 1st Edition/1st Printing

This copy is signed by author Shel Silverstein on the half-title page. Minor rubbing to boards; "It was missing a piece. And it was not happy." So begins this fable of quest and fulfillment with its sparse line illustrations to supplement the text. Singing nonsense rhymes it travels far and wide searching for its missing piece. Sadly, when it finds its missing piece and can roll very fast it discovers that life at a fast pace does not have time for pleasurable things like talking with friends, entertaining a butterfly, and singing a happy song. In fact, when it was complete it could not sing at all, so it set the piece down gently and slowly rolled away First Edition; First Printing; Signed by Author [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

SNIFFIN GLUE. Volumes 1 to 12.

Mark Perry. London. 1976/77. First Editions. Quartos. Mimeograph stapled magazines. Original issues of numbers one to twelve, a complete run of the Fanzine (two supplements, or special issues, were published but are not present here). Complete with the original flexi-disc single Love Lies Limp, by Alternative TV on SG Records as issued with number 12. All issues are generally in very good condition, with some staple rust to a couple of volumes, two closed tears to the rear wrapper of volume two, and the odd finger mark to margins here and there. Housed in a purpose made chemise and black cloth slipcase with leather label to the spine, ruled and lettered in gilt. ---------- Sniffin' Glue, the first punk fanzine, was produced by Mark Perry in July 1976 a few days after seeing US punk band The Ramones for the first time at the Roundhouse in London. He took the title from a Ramones song 'Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue'. The early days of the Punk movement largely failed to attract the attention of television or the mainstream press, and Sniffin' Glue remains a key source of photographs of, and information about, contributors to the scene. NME acclaimed "Sniffin' Glue" as "the nastiest, healthiest and funniest piece of press in the history of rock'n'roll habits" and it really became the true chronicle of the early days of British punk rock as well as pioneering the DIY punk ethic. Later, some called it the Bible of the punk movement. For the final issue Mark's sidekick Sniffin' Glue photographer, business affairs and later band manager Harry Murlowski recorded Love Lies Limp released as a flexi disc record, the first release from Mark Perry's band, Alternative TV. Fearing absorption into the mainstream music press, Perry ceased publication in 1977. In the last issues he encouraged his readers to follow him with their own punk fanzines.

        THE QUAKER

TRITON PRESS U.S.A. 1976 - The stunning Andrew Wyeth Metropolitan Exhibition in 1976 was one of the great successes in that gallery's history. After the close of the show it was agreed to issue a special Collotype of one painting, the image that had been most requested; THE QUAKER. Andrew Wyeth considered this to be one of his best temperas, and it certainly received the approval of critics and the public. Thomas Hoving, the Director of the Met, worked with Harry Lerner of Triton Press to bring about a faithful image of this never reproduced work, and Wyeth agreed to approve every stage. 'The final result has my complete approval' declared the artist at the end of the long process, and each print was then fitted into a scrupulously exact copy of the original frame. There is a discrete blind embossed Triton logo in the lower left corner of the print, which guarantees the absolute authenticity of the print. This particular example has been carefully stored in a low light environment, and it is magnificent. When a rare copy of this extraordinary issue comes to an auction house, in its original frame, it achieves a very high price indeed, much more than is being asked here. 'The Quaker' is an exceptional work, and a very exacting process has ensured all the subtlety of the original tempera is captured. THIS PRINT, IN THE SPECIAL FRAME, HAS ACHIEVED VERY LARGE SUMS AT AUCTION, THE HIGHEST FOUR TIMES THE PRICE OF THIS ONE. On the back of the picture is the ORIGINAL PRINTED DESCRIPTION about how this beautiful subtle print was achieved. Please ask about the cost of carriage of this considerable package. Costs will depend on destination of course.

Report to the Secretary of the Army By the Special Commission on the United States Military Academy, regarding the Honor Code (with) Extensive Annotations By Col. "Red" Reeder, Letters and Notes

West Point New York:: USMA,. 1976.. Staple-Bound. Very Good. A scathing and pithy commentary (also known as The Borman Report) on the state of affairs at West Point by Colonel Russell Potter "Red" Reeder, Jr. (1902 - 1998) United States Army officer, a highly decorated veteran of WWII and author - here reviews and comments on the Commission's investigation of the West Point system of Honor and its Code - nearly every page with his insertions, commentary and suggestions - at this time, the Point under scrutiny for reported abuses and scandals involving the cadets; Col. Reeder, for 20 years the respected Athletic Director of the USMA was concerned with and influential regarding changes needed in the Honor Code; this after several cheating incidents and 'scandals' concerning the cadets and incompetence on the part of the staff at the Point were publicly revealed; 91 pages, with handwritten marginal notations, underlining for emphasis in red and blue and references to other internal notes and incidents by him; Col. Reeder cites specific instances where the code and its application had been either abused or misinterpreted by less-than-caring Point administration, often resulting in unfair, foolishly judged and downright poor treatment of cadets; Throughout, Col. Reeder's approach is one of humanity and good sense and is especially potent, given that his entire life was spent within the U.S. Army under one aspect or another and his years of experience with the men and boys under his command gave him insight that would be difficult to surpass; At front is stapled-in a note on Reeder's letterhead, stating "...There will be moans abt. this report. Some at USMA think nothing is wrong. But in 30 years there have been two cadet honor dismissals, involving abt. 100 cadets each, plus one "Scandal" that was swept under the rug.. USMA should expect some outside changes because they were not cleaning up internally..."; laid-in are a carbon of a typed letter signed from Reeder to Col. Frank Borman, on the Special Commission, wherein Reeder tells of meeting with General of the Army Eisenhower who specifically had asked Col. Reeder about the cadet's adherence and loyalty to the Code and his concerns, Reeder noting that now more than ever is there need for paying attention to the good structure of the Academy since enrollment was nearly 4 times the size as when Eisenhower was a cadet; with a note to Col. William J. Taylor Jr. regarding the report and Taylor's grateful reply after reading it and Reeder's comments and recommendations; evidently, Reeder had sent the annotated report to several respected colleagues as well as the commission, since there are notes that Lt.Col. Dale Hruby as well as Brig. Gen. Harvey Fraser had been in communication, list in reviewing this document (their names both on the front cover as being forwarded the report); side-stapled; some edge tips wear, soiling to cover sheet and back cover, which is coming loose from the stapling; laid-in materials with light wear and contained in the original manila envelope titled in Reeder's hand (worn with tears); overall, in very good condition; a very interesting annotated report and group of correspondence, a unique archive of material concerning the USMA at West Point during a particularly troublesome time of upheaval and self- examination, especially as coming from the knowledgeable pen of the prominent Col. Reeder.
