BNF.

"We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly fisherman who tied his own flies and taught others. He told us about Christ's disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fishermen.'' Maclean's elegiac meditation on the intricacies of fly fishing, logging, fighting forest fires, playing cribbage and being a husband and father. Two novellas and a short story, the first of which was adapted to film by Robert Redford, with Tom Skerritt, Craig Sheffer, and Brad Pitt.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good.

Else a beautiful near-perfect copy! Limited to 1111 copies, 1000 trade copies, 100 copies numbered, 11 copies lettered. This copy is neither numbered nor lettered but appears to be the only copy available of this edition signed by both. The Dying Earth was Jack Vance's first published book, originally appearing as a paperback original in 1950 published by Hillman Periodicals. Underwood-Miller's first book is this title, and they essentially went on to publish the entire Jack Vance canon in beautiful limited and signed-limited editions until circa 1995. Although this copy is not numbered or lettered, this may be a presentation copy of some sort. The present copy may be the only copy available of the 1976 edition signed by both Vance and Barr. I would guess a copy of one of the signed-limited-numbered copies would probably be priced at about $950, perhaps more, if it ever became available. My price is firm as I may never see another copy of the original 1976 edition signed by both writer and artist. In over 20 years of collecting, I have yet to see a signed-numbered copy of this edition. There was a 1994 second Underwood-Miller edition of this title signed by both Vance and Barr, but that's the only other edition I've ever seen signed by both, which is priced at about $400 to $500 these days. This first hardcover edition is more desirable. On a Personal Note: I knew Mr. Vance slightly because he resided not far from my current residence. During the last four years of his life, I visited him about a half dozen times. He was completely coherent, although the last few times I saw him he had lost a great deal of weight. Interestingly, he said he thought The Dying Earth, rather juvenile, even though I have to heartily disagree with him as I believe it's one of the all-time greatest books of SF-Fantasy ever written. He was old school, and could be rather cantankerous. He detested the so-called "Occupy Wall Street" movement. He signed many of my books, although at the time he was blind, and I had to guide his hand to the book, and his signature tended to be messy. (The present offering appears to have been signed around the time the book was published.) He would listen to the radio and kept up with current events and news. The SF-Fantasy World will sorely miss one of the greatest writing minds of the 20th century. RIP Mr. Vance.NOTE: All modern books with dustjackets come with dustjacket covers.ALSO: The picture is the actual item for sale.         Pharmacopoea collegii medicorum Bergomi, rationem compenendi medicamenta usitatiora complectens. Altera editio ...Bergamo, Comino Ventura, 1581. Folio. With woodcut device on title-page and colophon. Modern sheepskin parchment.

Durling 989; G. Sonnedecker, Kremers and Urdang's History of pharmacy (1976), p. 424. Second edition of the first official pharmacopoeia of the Venetian Republic, compiled by the College of Physicians of Bergamo. "The title 'pharmacopoea' was not used in Italy until 1580 at Bergamo" (Sonnedecker), when the first edition, the Pharmacopoeia Bergamensis , was published. In 1601 the pharmacopoeia was replaced by the official pharmacopoeia of Bologna, after various delays of a revised edition.Since the first pharmacopoeia by Valerius Cordus (1515-1544) had appeared, authorities of several cities followed the example of compiling a book with remedies and cures to various diseases and ailments. Its main goal was to enhance uniformity between the cities physicians, their prescriptions and their medicines. However, many private pharmacopoeias were in circulation as well. With a restoration to title-page, not affecting the text, and one leaf detached. Heavily browned, with some waterstains, small spots and thumbing. A fair copy.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (Original UK three-sheet poster for the 1976 film)

London: British Lion Film Corporation, 1976. UK illustrated three-sheet poster for the 1976 film. An extremely uncommon poster, and an interesting interpretation of the film, in that it leans more toward Bowie's "Station to Station" persona than it does the film itself. Then again, Bowie was also dressing a bit like this in the film--which leads one to wonder whether he was living in the real world, or the film, or both. 40 x 80 inches, folded. Near Fine.
