Femme coiffée] (titre non contractuel) Dessin Femme coiffée Superbe oeuvre Dessin original

      - Sans date, sans lieu [vers 1975 ?] Dessin original sur papier teinté. Stylo noir, craie blanche Dimensions de la feuille : 42 x 32 cm environ Dimensions du dessin (vue) : 39 x 29 cm environ Cadre moderne d'attente. Voir photo.

        Dragon [Numbers 1-10]

Berkeley: Bay Area Research Collective. 1975-1976. First. Ten issues. Octavos. Scattered foxing to various issues, very good or better except number 7 which lacks the rear wrap. Published by a pro-Symbionese Liberation Army propaganda collective, Dragon was something of an ongoing screed that espoused the beliefs of the violent left underground of the 1970s Bay Area. Issue #1 contains pieces critical of General Motors and P.G.&E., a chronology of The Red Guerrilla Family, and instructions for making a pipe bomb. Other issues include comments about the Black Liberation Army, George Jackson Brigade, Front de Liberation du Quebec, Coalition Against Psychiatric Assault, and Weather Underground, to name just a few of the groups mentioned. A compelling resource documenting the prevailing opinions and issues concerning the revolutionary groups active in the Bay Area during the mid-1970s. .

ECOTOPIA: THE NOTEBOOKS AND REPORTS OF WILLIAM WESTON

Banyan Tree Books, Berkeley 1975 - First Printing, cloth issue. Octavo (21cm); hunter green cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; [6], 167, [3]pp. Trivial wear to spine ends, else Fine in a Very Good+ dustjacket, price-clipped, with rubbing to rear panel, a few small nicks and tears, and a shallow chip and scrape at crown. Scarce hardcover issue of Callenbach's self-published first novel, and ecological utopia now referred to as "the novel that predicted Portland." "Callenbach could not find a publisher for his book in 1974, and was told that it was neither a novel or a tract. "Somebody said the ecology trend was over," he says. "I was on the point of burning it." But he persevered, collecting small checks from friends to pay for 2,500 copies to be printed" (Vaughn, Jacqueline. Environmental Politics: Domestic and Global Dimensions, p.316). Callenbach presents a vision of the future, 19 years after the northwestern U.S. has seceded, as viewed by an American reporter visiting and relaying his observations. "Appropriate technology, environmental concern, improved relationships, concern for the common good, natural recycling, decentralization, willingness to use those machines which are useful but will not harm the environment, cooperation, and careful planning have led to a society not yet utopian, because of external and internal threats, but well on the way" (Lewis, pp.36-38). Reprinted many dozens of times, the first printing - issued simultaneously in wrappers and cloth - is uncommon, particularly in the cloth issue. Sargent, p.161. [Attributes: First Edition]

Austerity Binge. Original artwork for the dust wrapper of Bevis Hillier's Austerity Binge.

Mounted, framed and glazed, 330 x 630mm in frame. A rough and a final draft of the artwork for the dust wrapper of Austerity Binge. Mounted with a manuscript caption by Bevis Hillier. Bevis Hillier in an article for the Spectator wrote: "The best, gaudiest jacket ever designed for a book of mine was again by the Bentley-Farrell-Burnett team, for my Austerity/Binge (1975), about the decorative arts of the 1940s and 50s. Perhaps some will merely see it as further evidence that the Seventies were 'the decade that taste forgot'; but massed copies made a great polychrome splash in the windows of Hatchard's and other bookshops: and I think that Peter Bentley, the chief designer of this jacket, showed outstanding skill in transmuting post-war motifs into something unmistakably of the later decade to which it belongs." Bentley-Farrell-Burnett were employed by Penguin to design the covers for their Evelyn Waugh paperbacks. They also designed LP sleeves for the likes of Tyrannosaurus Rex.

        Transport in plants.

Berlin, Heidelberg, New York, Springer,1975/85. New Series. 18 vol. in 26 books. 25 x 17 cm. Kunstleder. Leatherette tape. Encyclopedia of plant physiology ; Vol. 1 - 18. Sehr gut erhalten. In top condition. From the contents; When Wilhelm Ruhland developed his plan for an Encyclopedia of Plant Physiology more than three decades ago, biology could still be conveniently subdivided into classical areas. Even within plant physiology, subdivisions were not too difficult to make, and general principles could be covered sufficiently in the two introductory volumes of the Encyclopedia on the physical basis of cell biology. But the situation changed even during the 12-year publication period of the Encyclopedia (1955-1967). The new molecular direction of genetics and structural research on biopolymers had an integrating effect on all other biological fields, including plant physiology, and it became increasingly difficult to keep previously distinct areas separated. Ruhlands overall plan included 18 volumes and about 22,000 pages. The new series has 2 more books, one of them is the General Register. ( still available as an E-book or in soft cover). We offer a library set in top condition with a library label on spine an inside (only on the back side of the titel) with the usual library stamps.         Original watercolor artwork for ABA 75 Convention

1975 - Watercolor on paper. Image area measures approximately 8 by 11 1/2 inches. Matted and framed. This illustration was used on the cover of the May 19th, 1975 edition of Publisher's Weekly, which featured an article on the 1975 American Booksellers Association Convention. The scene shows a typical Gorey character with enormous golden wings proclaiming "ABA 75" upon them in red. The mustachioed man, dressed in slacks, a tweed sportcoat, yellow sweater and green bow-tie, hovers bat-like over a small crowd of characters wielding books, each of whom has a speech-bubble pitch above them. The faded burlesque dancer in a diaphanous flapper-style dress, feather headdress, and festooned with beads holds up her "Follies of the Follies" and explains that "I still have all my costumes to wear to book-and-author luncheons." Next to her, a small boy pitches his "exposé of group activities in an Eastchester kindergarten" entitled "Plasticine & Clothes Pins." A barefoot, bearded beach-bum in a poncho, an apron-wearing aspiring cookbook author, and a man in a plaid 3-piece leisure suit round out this assembly. Some of the details here suggest that Gorey, who was no stranger to book-related events such as this, may have attended this convention. Writing in the June 16th, 1975 issue of the New Yorker, Lillian Ross observed that "All over the convention, the word used for people whose names appeared on the covers of books was 'author' (never 'writer')." Further on, she noted the presence of "two dozen publishers who were beating the drum for cookbooks," and she likened the experience of walking the aisles to "walking an old Coney Island path between sideshow hawkers." Gorey adhered a small paste-over correction to the leg of one of the characters, revealing insight into the artist's process. A fine, colorful example of Gorey's commercial work that is especially appealing for its book-oriented content.
