        THE FOREVER WAR

St. Martin's Press, [1974 i.e. 1975]., New York - Octavo, boards. First edition. Signed inscription by Haldeman "for Apple" dated 4 September 1976 on title page. "Tough, slick narrative of an interstellar war which lasts [over] 1000 years. To the soldier hero, it seems to last about ten years, thanks to the time-dilation effect of faster-than-light travel. Good, realistic, military SF which actually subverts many of the clichés of that category . (he was a Vietnam veteran, which helped). Initially rejected by 18 publishers, it has since sold over a million copies." - Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition (1995), pp. 141-2. Haldeman's first SF novel. Winner of the 1975 Hugo award for best novel. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-479. Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, p. 360. Survey of Science Fiction Literature II, pp. 813-8. Faint spotting to upper edge of text block, else a fine copy in very good or somewhat better dust jacket (priced $7.95) with some of the almost inevitable rubbing to blue background ink, here limited to rear panel, mostly upper spine end and upper rear corner.       USSR: Sabchota Sakartvelo, 1975. 1975. NEAR FINE in GOOD+ dust jacket. A very scarce book. A literary treatment of the variants of the text of the Georgian epic 'Amirani' (or Amirany) - brilliantly illustrated by the Georgian sculptor and artist Vakhtang Oniani.       London: Jupiter Books,, 1975. Lowry, a portfolio of The Lowrys containing 3 prints each signed by Lowry limited to 300 copies and a bronze cast medallion of Lowry by Solomon limited to 300. With a prospectus for Rochdale College of Art with a large drawing of Solomon on the front cover drawn and signed by Mervyn Levy. First edition, first impression, of The Paintings of L. S. Lowry. This is the dedication copy of the book as Solomon is the printed dedicatee, signed on the title page by Lowry and Levy, the edges are also painted blue. Usually this edition is signed on a bookplate to the pastedown. Solomon's set of prints and medallion are number 6, a letter from the publisher enclosed also states that he was also sent set number 11. While at grammar school Solomon was inspired in art by Mervyn Levy, who later became a leading art critic and dealer himself. He became principal at the Rochdale College of Art in 1953 and had been a friend of Lowry since the 1950s. His friendship with Lowry had some benefits for the Rochdale art students as Lowry sometimes visited the classes and looked at the students' work, occasionally offering advice. Solomon also cast a bronze bust of Lowry that was selected by the Royal Academy for inclusion in its summer 1967 exhibition. In April 1976, at the age of 56, he suffered a heart attack and after about a month in Birch Hill Hospital he had another and died.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF ANDY WARHOL (FROM A-B & BACK AGAIN) - SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY WITH A CAMPBELL'S SOUP CAN DRAWING

(WARHOL, ANDY). Warhol, Andy. THE PHILOSOPHY OF ANDY WARHOL (FROM A-B & BACK AGAIN) - SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY WITH A CAMPBELL'S SOUP CAN DRAWING. Signed Presentation Copy with a Soup Can Drawing. New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1975. First Edition. 8vo. Cloth Over Boards in Jacket. Artist Autobiography. Fine/Near Fine. 242pp, no illustrations. Dust jacket design by Herb Lubalin with a photograph by Philippe Halsman. "The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (A-B & Back Again)" is the charming 1975 confessional autobiography cum successful artist's instruction manual penned by Andy Warhol with the assistance of Pat Hackett, Brigid Polk and Bob Colacello. It combines the Pop Art titan's ephemeral musings and concrete business suggestions intertwined with hilarious transcribed excerpts from his ever-present daily telephone calls. A most handsome example of the stated 1975 printing (showing the letter A struck from the printing history) of this inspirational and aspirational tome additionally bearing a BOLDLY DRAWN CAMPBELL'S MANHANDLER SOUP CAN DRAWING WITH A SIGNED PRESENTATION "To ... / Andy Warhol" in black marker across the entire half title page showing a thin margin of mild sunning to the top edge of the boards. In the scores of copies of this with drawings we've handled over the years, this is the first example of "Manhandler" we've seen!.         Baltics; Translated by Samuel Charters

Oyez, Berkeley 1975 - 8vo, unpag.; printed green wrappers. This copy has been boldly inscribed by Tranströmer on the first blank for fellow poet Christopher Middleton with the addition of an elaborately stylized letter "W" (which Tranströmer sometimes did in homage to his grandfather, whose name was Westerberg). He has also added textual corrections and glosses by hand to four pages of the poem. With the publisher's two-page press release and portrait photo of the poet loosely inserted. Tranströmer received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2011, four years before his death. Bump to the spine, just about fine. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

THE PHILOSOPHY OF ANDY WARHOL (FROM A-B & BACK AGAIN) - SIGNED PRESENTATION COPY WITH A CAMPBELL'S SOUP CAN DRAWING

Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, New York 1975 - 242pp, no illustrations. A most handsome example of the stated 1975 printing (showing the letter A struck from the printing history) of this inspirational and aspirational tome additionally bearing a BOLDLY DRAWN CAMPBELL'S MANHANDLER SOUP CAN DRAWING WITH A SIGNED PRESENTATION "To . / Andy Warhol" in black marker across the entire half title page showing a thin margin of mild sunning to the top edge of the boards. In the scores of copies of this with drawings we've handled over the years, this is the first example of "Manhandler" we've seen! PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.         Dessin original érotique [Coït] (titre non contractuel)

      - Sans date, sans lieu [vers 1975 ?] Dessin original sur papier teinté. Stylo noir, craie blanche, rouge.

The Poor Mouth (An Béal Bacht). A bad story about the hard life.

London: Published by Bernard Jacobson Ltd., 1973, 1975. Edited by Myles na Gopaleen (Flann O'Brien). Tanslated by Patrick C. Power, and illustrated by Ralph Steadman. Quarto. Original rough broad-weave cloth (resembling sacking), lettered in black on the front cover using Steadman's calligraphy, map endpapers. Pictorial double-page title-page, illustrated throughout by Ralph Steadman. Neat library stamp of Denis Anthony Collins on recto of rear free endpaper. An excellent copy. First edition in English, number 44 of 130 copies signed in pencil by the artist at the head of the title page and in the lower margin of the original aquatint (loosely inserted). Also inscribed flamboyantly across the half-title: "With best wishes from Ralph Steadman", accompanied by signature ink splashes and a thumbnail portrait of a dejected individual. The wonderful original print shows the hero's father and Martin O'Bannassa "sitting on top of the hen-house, gazing at the sky to judge the weather and also chatting honestly and quietly about the difficulties of life". "This celebrated satirical work, An Béal Bocht, first published [in Gaelic] in 1941, is here translated for the first time under the title of The Poor Mouth? [O'Brien] comments mercilessly on Irish life? The key-words in this work are surely 'downpour', 'eternity' and 'potatoes' set against a background of squalor and poverty" (Patrick C. Power in his Translator's Preface).
