… [Click Below for Full Description]

(GAY POETRY.)
London: the Company of Nine, the poetry group of C. H. E. London,, [1974]. Small octavo. Original illustrated blue wrappers, stapled at the fold. Cover design by John R. Davies. Excellent condition. First edition, sole impression, of this rare early gay poetry anthology. This is a presentation copy sent by V. George Toland, the Secretary of the Company of Nine, to gay publisher Winston Leyland (b.1940), with Leyland's ownership inscription. Laid in is a typed letter signed, dated 1 September 1975, complimenting Leyland on Gay Sunshine, offering the present volume, and inviting him and his readers to the Campaign for Homosexual Equality poetry group meetings in Covent Garden where "there is always plenty of time for drinks and fraternizing...". Copac lists only two copies, with the British Library giving 1974 as the date of publication. Winston Leyland (b.1940) was a leading figure in American LGBT publishing who won the Stonewall Book Award in 1980. He established the Gay Sunshine Press in 1975, and his Gay Sunshine Journal (1970-82) was particularly influential for its interviews with prominent gay writers of the era.

Dick, Philip K[indred]
Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1974. First edition. A fine copy (no remainder spray) in a nearly fine dust jacket with some mild rubbing mainly to corner tips and spine ends. (16472). Octavo. cloth. 1974 Nebula and 1975 Hugo nominee. Winner of the 1975 John W. Campbell Award. "One day in 1988, the nation's top TV star wakes up to find himself unknown. No one has heard of him, there is no record of birth, he has no identification to show the omnipresent police. In Flow My tears, the Policeman Said. (Doubleday, $6.95), Philip K. Dick has written a proficient tale of an America taken over by data banks and bureaucrats. College students and professors have been ruthlessly separated from society, as a former advocate of law-and-order once proposed. In this dark future, all blacks are sterilized after the birth of their first child. By the time the hero finds himself an unperson, blacks are an endangered species, treated much as the whooping crane is today. But the sociological comment is only background; the real problem is whether JasonTaverner is the victim of a plot or a skid-row bum who dreams that he is a TV star. A recommended slide toward solipsism." - E.H. in Psychology Today, June, 1974. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-329. Survey of Science Fiction Literature II, pp. 797-801.
