Lancelot du lac [Lancelot of the Lake] (Original French film poster)

, 1974. 1974. Original French "affichette" poster for the 1974 film, "Lancelot du lac" (released in the US and UK as "Lancelot of the Lake") directed by Robert Bresson. Bresson's bloody take on the King Arthur legend was an expansion of the aesthetic he had already developed, where the violence that was once implied became a reality-though certainly still quite surreal. Near Fine condition, with a couple of repaired tears at the top edge and an extremely faint, almost negligible discoloration toward the top. 24 x 32 inches, rolled, on linen.

        Att vilja gå vidare.

      - Stockholm; Tidens förlag, 1974. First edition. 21,5x14 cm. 272 pp. Publisher's boards with printed dustjacket. The jacket has a faint dampstain at base of spine, and a short tear at top front folding; it is slightly wrinkled along the top of front panel and rear panel is a trifle soiled. Spine ends are slightly bumped. Contents are clean and bright. Articles and speeches by Palme from the 60s and early 70s on the themes of democracy, solidarity, social movements and the welfare state. Inscribed: "Till Lennart [Geijer] fr. Olof". Olof Palme (1927-1986), Swedish politician and Prime Minister of Sweden 1969-76 and 1982-86. The book is inscribed to the Swedish politician and lawyer Lennart Geijer (1909-1999). He is mainly remembered for his role in the 'Geijer Scandal' in the 1970s. In 1976, as Geijer held the position of Minister of Justice, he was pointed out as a possible safety risk by the Swedish Security Service, due to his alleged involvement with prostitutes from East European states. Palme was informed about this through a report which listed several Swedish politicians, who were pointed out as customers of a certain callgirl network in Stockholm. In 1977, the newspaper Dagens Nyheter published an article on the matter, but Palme denied that Geijer would have been suspected and he also denied the existence of the police report. The report was made official in 1991 and Geijer was, after all, mentioned in it. His guilt has, however, never been proved. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

N.P., [Los Angeles] 1974 - Original typed letter from Charles Bukowski to John Bryan, signed by Bukowski in black ink. Single sheet of white 8.5 x 11" stock; two old, faint folds, with a few tiny soil spots and light edge wear; Very Good+. Previously unpublished letter from Bukowski to publisher, journalist, and newspaper editor John Bryan, who for many years published Bukowski's 'Notes of a Dirty Old Man' column in the pages of OPEN CITY. A particularly raunchy letter, detailing both Bukowski's lady troubles, as well as his general sentiments toward women: "yes, here I am on Carlton Way. I am, as usual in troubled waters, soft-prey for any female, even though I eat pussy like the whorehouse master and even almost love their farts, they always find a way to stamp the heart, the gut, that last feeling inside that managed to rise for one last time.they piss on me, walk away.I am doomed, friends, not because of the female but because I dream more into her than there can be." Concluding remarks include some hysterical comments on Patricia Hearst, which we surmise are entirely made up. Letters between Bukowski and Bryan are scarce, and this one is wonderful, showing the poet in truly rare form.

        Eigenh. Brief m. U.

Berlin-Kalusdorf, 8. VII. 1974. - 1 S. 4to. Gedr. Briefkopf. Gelocht.

New English Library 1974 - First edition, first impression of King’s first novel – rare, with a print run of only 600. Very Good minus: bound in clean purple boards with light wear to the corner and spine tips; bright gilt. Small previous owner’s signature to the top of the ffep beside an inked number, ‘314’; the shadow of a removed bookseller’s label to the foot of the front pastedown and a little darkening and minor marking to the endpapers; the cheap paper used has browned (as is almost always the case), particularly at the extremities, with foxing and light soiling to the edges; the binding is secure but with a hint of play at the hinges (again, as is common); one page (p33) has a 6cm tear rising by the gutter from the bottom edge (not affecting the text). The unclipped dustwrapper (£2.50 net stated) is Very Good: very bright and striking, with no fading at all to the spine and no tears; rubbing and light wear to the spine tips, corners and (very slightly) to the edges; some short ripples to the laminate and a few minor, smoothed creases – presents very well indeed in a removable, archival-quality Brodart protective cover. All-in-all, a nice example of a milestone in fiction. All orders are sent very carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and sturdy cardboard. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        The Diviners

Toronto: McClelland and Stewart [0-7710-4748-7] 1974, 1st edition. (Hardcover) 382pp. Near fine in near fine dust jacket. Large Octavo. Original pale green cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Light discolouration to top and bottom of boards, especially at spine. Black endpapers, faded around edges. Tight text block, very clean save for some very light stains on outer edge of text block. In dust jacket, not price clipped. Lightly worn with some very small closed tears to and slight discolouration at edges. A lovely copy. A first edition of the Governor General Award winner, Signed and inscribed by Margaret Laurence. A signature on the front free endpaper identifies this copy as previously belonging to Raymond Hernandez. The inscription, written by Laurence on the title page reads "Ray, Hope and peace, Margaret Laurence, 1974". Stapled to the top of the title page with two staples is a sheet of paper with writing in blue pen. The paper says "8 November, Friday- Dinner 6 pm." Below is the address of, and directions to, the house where Margaret Laurence lived from 1974 till her death in 1987 in Lakefield, on. This house now has a historical plaque placed there by the Lakefield Historical Society in 1993. Below this is written a phone number and below that M. Laurence. As it is written in the same hand as the inscription on the book, and the writing and name look very similar it is assumed that the note was also written by Laurence, who must have invited Hernandez for dinner while signing his copy. Looking at the back of the note reveals that the paper was originally the cover for the Trent University Staff Benefits program- which suggests that he may have been an employee of the University in Peterburough where Laurence worked as a Chancellor from 1981-1983. Placed loosely in the book are two photographs, presumed to be Raymond Hernandez. Though we were unable to attain any more information about Hernandez it is apparant that he was in some way associated with Margaret Laurence, probably on a personal level. Signed and inscribed by Margaret Laurence..

The Karla Trilogy] Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy, Smiley's People

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1974-1979. First editions of each title in the author's acclaimed Karla Trilogy. Octavo, original black cloth. 3 volumes. Each are signed by Le Carre on the title page. Tinker, Tailor Soldier Spy is signed "David Cornwell aka John LeCarre". Each are near fine to fine in near fine dust jackets, with The Honourable Schoolboy price-clipped. An excellent set, uncommon in this condition and signed. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy garnered instant praise for Le Carre as "[t]he premier spy novelist of his time. Perhaps of all time" (Time). "Le Carre is simply the world's greatest fictional spymaster" (Newsweek). Le Carre's inspiration drew from his experience of the revealing of the Cambridge Five traitors in the 1950s and '60s (Anthony, 2009), and the novel's popularity can be seen in relation to those shocking events. In 2011, the novel was adapted into a successful film, starring Gary Oldman and Colin Firth, and it received three nominations at the 84th Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Actor. This successful production is but one of Le Carre's numerous accolades in espionage fiction. He was awarded both the Helmerich Award and the Goethe Medal, and, in 2008, The Times ranked Le Carré 22nd on its list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945.

        The Wandering Tattler

Wisconson: The Perishable Press Limited, 1974 First edition, first printing. Limited edition, one of 130 copies signed by the author in orange ink on the half-title page. A fine copy. Overall, a very bright and attractive copy. The Wandering Tattler is a collection of poems by Diane Wakoski, a prolific American poet known for the personal quality of her writing. It is truly a work of literary art, as admirable for the craftsmanship of its physical construction as for its words and images. Wakoski's poetry, which incorporates a heavy use of bird-like and spring imagery, is enhanced by the accompanying stunning illustrations by Ellen Layon. These motifs are continued in the publishing and printing processes; published "as our Sun enters Aries or the first day of Spring," the drawings and illustrations are printed on handmade Shadwell papers, the colors of which were drawn from the "colors of the actual birds." Additionally, The Perishable Press Limited, run by professor, artist, and book designer Walter Hamady, boasts the use of a 'tz' ligature in "When the Quetzal Bird Stole the Roadrunner's Feathers," emphasizing the artistic and personal nature of this book's publication.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
