Nash Publishing, Los Angeles 1974 - First edition. Quarto. Fine in very good plus dustwrapper with one longish tear. Inscribed by Miller to his second wife June Mansfield: "For June, Merry Xmas! Henry 1974." In the text of this book Miller relates: ".I was married a few years when I finally ran into 'Mona,' in my books, you know, in the dance hall, and we were caught in bed one morning when I thought my wife had gone on a vacation. So I left her immediately and went to live with June -- 'Mona.' And it was through my new wife that I got the courage to make my final decisions and to live by them. she used to say to me, 'Look, give up that job; Start to write.'" A nice association.         THE LIBERAL AND RADICAL YEAR BOOK / THE LIBERAL YEAR BOOK [A run of 41 uniformly-bound facsimile volumes]

The Harvster Press 1972 to 1974, Brighton, UK - 8vo, A few volumes are lightly scuffed & some have a former owner's bookplate on the front endpaper; else each in vg condition. First published in 1887, ten years after the establishment in England of a national Liberal Party, this is an invaluable and comprehensive historical, statistical, and political publication. The volumes cover the years from 1887 to 1889, 1905 to 1932, and 1934 to 1939. Each volume was reproduced from the best original copy available, although the publishers (Harvester Press) observe in a prefatory note to the 1887 edition that "the original, in the British Museum, [had] been tightly re-bound and this has affected the reproduction of the inner margin of some few pages. Extensive inquiries have failed to locate an alternative copy for reprinting." Each volume typically includes complete information on the organization of the Liberal Party, composition of both Houses of Parliament, the various government departments, a summary of legislation passed the previous year, a riding-by-riding account of the previous general election, or by-elections, including candidates and vote counts, and an enormous amount of financial and budgetary data. As this is a very heavy set, we ask that you consult with us prior to placing an order, as to the options and costs to ship. Each volume bound in green buckram with gilt titles [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Brief annotation (by Barahona?) in ink on p. 14. ---- FIRST EDITION of these poems about Timor, dated between 11 and 30 June 1974, one of the author's rarest works. It was reprinted in Rio de Janeiro, 2013.Born in London, Cinatti (1915?1986), poet, agronomist, and anthropologist, studied agronomy and meteorology in Lisbon at the Universidade Técnica, and went on to study social anthropology at Oxford University before entering Portuguese government service, first in Timor and later in Lisbon. He spent a good part of his life in Timor, and also spent time in São Tomé e Príncipe, writing about both places in his poems and scientific works. During his active and distinguished literary career, he was founder and co-director of @Cadernos de Poesia, which also published his @Nós não somos dêste mundo as well as works by other aspiring poets, founder and editor of the literary review @Aventura (1942-44), and author of several later poetry collections. His work departs from that of the @presencistas, displaying a marked affinity for the styles and themes of the nineteenth-century Romantic poets.@Provenance: António [Manuel Baptista] Barahona [da Fonseca], Portuguese poet (born Lisbon, 1939), lived for some time in Moçambique, and in Lisbon in the late 1950s belonged to the "Grupo do Café Gelo".         A charming original pen-and-ink sketch, entitled 'The Return with the Woman', caricaturing himself, his great-aunt, Adeline, baroness von Roeder ('Tiz') and her tiny,'rat-like', dog.

      - Approx. 11 x 12cm. A fragment only, torn-out (by Brenan himself),from a letter of his to Dora Carrington, but not posted. On the verso are eight lines in Brenan's hand describing part of the incident, but crossed-out and which differs from the version finally sent (see below). Brenan devotes a chapter to an amusing account of his aunt and her eccentricities in 'Personal Record', 1974. He stayed with her several times in her London flat and was her heir. In the letter eventually sent, dated Framlingham, August 9th, 1921, he records the incident :- A dreary evening led to a still drearier dinner at the Pall Mall Restaurant. I was not hungry and took only the hors d'oeuvres & the ice. I did not even TRY to conceal my anger, boredom and dismay. She thought I looked ill and suggested we should walk back across the park, to get the night air and save 1/6d taxi fare. We did this, and she tripped along behind me, like the mummy of some ancient Pharonic jade - half skeleton, half beetle, half clock-work, half-human and wholly vampire - with her face all painted and shrivelled, long dirt-marks under her eyes (she never washes), a little rat-like dog rolled-up in red flannel under her arm [but in the sketch the dog is walking] a long swishing silk skirt below, and on her head a black Mrs. Siddons hat.         [7" vinyl record]: Hey Joe (Version) [and] Piss Factory

[New York]: Mer Records. 1974. Original 7" vinyl 45 RPM record. Fine in modestly age-toned, about fine plain white sleeve as issued, in the original mailing envelope. Signed by Patti Smith on the white sleeve. Also included is a small, age-toned clipping from The Village Voice advertising a contemporary performance by Smith at Max's Kansas City, listing the book and record stores where this record could be purchased, and noting that it could be purchased directly for $2.50 from Sunburst Industries. Patti Smith's first vinyl single, "Hey Joe" and "Piss Factory" on the B side, produced by Lenny Kaye for Robert Mapplethorpe. The record, mailer, and clipping are housed in (and easily removable from) an acrylic stand. An exceptionally uncommon record, the original mailer is rare. This copy is addressed to R.W. Bayley in Forest Knolls, California, with the return address of The WARTOKE Concern in New York (listing the same Broadway address as Sunburst Industries), and postmarked September 26, 1974. The recipient, Roberta Bayley, is a photographer who created one of the most important photographic records of the punk scene as it germinated in New York City, and she was also the co-author (with Victor Bockris) of the first biography of Patti Smith (Patti Smith. New York: Simon & Schuster 1999). The clipping is pictured in the biography. Her iconic photographs (including the photo that graced the jacket of the first Ramones album) helped define the New York punk aesthetic. Her reminiscences in Leg McNeil and Gillian McCain's Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, possibly the best single volume source of the early history of punk, were central to the book. .

".What Harry Mitchell least expected, as he entered the darkened room, was the perverted version of 'This is Your Life' on a home movie screen, starring pillar of the community Harry Mitchell and the beautiful, golden-haired Cini, produced and presented by a trio of psychopaths and for sale at the new low price of $150,000, payable now. Otherwise worldwide distribution. What the unholy three -- the dealer in porno flicks, the trigger-happy coke head, the vodka-swilling boss of the nude model joint -- least expected was a mark who'd come on strong. He was not the straight-A stiff he had looked like at first but a tenacious dude with a spine like steel. When they threw their punch -- the shattering second home movie with its depraved, entangling climax -- he didn't even crumble. For Harry Mitchell was a tough, selfmade man. He had gone from assembly line to ownership of a multimillion dollar company, had a wife and children he loved, and had a good reputation, and he was not about to lose everything to three psycho punks with their blackmail scheme. Not even after that scheme turned to murder." Purchase with confidence: all books, gradings, and descriptions are rendered the care of a genuine bibliophile.       L'Herne, Paris 1974 - Alexander Calder (1898-1976) Etchings from the Santa Clause Portfolio Limited edition of 175 copies; each signed and numbered in pencil by the artist Published by L'Herne Paris: 1974 Signed Calder, lower right Dimensions: 20 1/4 x 26" E.E. Cummings (1894-1962), an American poet, essayist and playwright, first published his one-act play, Santa Clause, in the Harvard Wake in the spring of 1946. The play was inspired by his reunion with his estranged daughter Nancy, whom was married to Willard Roosevelt, grandson of Theodore Roosevelt. Cummings considered the play Santa Claus, which expressed his belief in the joys of love, his most successful. The allegorical Christmas fantasy recounts the tale of Santa Claus and the sinister character Death, who exchange identities in a cynical scheme to sell shares in a worthless wheel mine. A little girl, whose innocence allows her to see through their deception, finds them out. Remorseful, Santa reveals his true identity, reaffirming his faith in love and giving and reconciles with his estranged family. Alexander Calder illustrated this monumental artist book with nine full-page etchings, whose simplified linear motifs deftly convey the emotional power of the story. Each original etching is signed and number in pencil by Calder.

Anything For Joe aka "Oral Oracle"

Cameo 1974 - ANN GRIFFIN (DEAN KOONTZ penname) - ANYTHING FOR JOE, published by Cameo Crown CC-170 in 1974 (originally published in 1970 by Cameo under the "Gracie Amber" penname and under the title "Oral Oracle"). This book is one of a number of 30 or so books that Dean Koontz wrote for Cameo books early in his career under various pennames (like Gracie Amber or Leonard Chris), and one book he actually published under his own name (Bounce Girl). Dean Koontz has since disavowed and otheRwise denied having ever written such books (besides Bounce Girl which was published under his own name and the Leonard Chris book "Hung"), but the evidence is undisputable: The Library of Congress confirms that Gerda Ann Koontz (Dean's wife) holds the copyrights to this book. "Ann" is one of the five names listed in the dedication of the gothic romance "Demon Child" (which Koontz wrote under the penname of Deanna Dwyer). All five of the first names listed in the dedication of "Demon Child" have turned out to be pseudonyms that Dean had used for this particular "Adult" literature. In an article written by Dean Koontz entitled "Dean's Drive" in the sci-fi fanzine Energumen #8 (6/71), Dean Koontz admitted to writing 30 of these books in 1970, along with Pig Society and The Underground Lifestyles Handbook (both of which were also published by the same publisher, Cameo books in 1970). One of the titles that Dean Koontz admits to having written ("Thirteen and Ready") was written under the penname of Ann Griffin. In an early sci-fi fanzine, Beabohema #8 (1970), Dean Koontz again talked about writing these books. The authors initials (A.G.) are simply Dean's wife's initials in reverse. One of the Ann Griffin cameo books "Protest Ball," lists the author's address as Harrisburg, Pennsylviania (where Dean and his wife were living in 1970). Finally, in Dean Koontz's writing how-to book "How to Write Popular Fiction" (1972), he refers to these books and specifically to the Ann Griffin penname. Book has vertical spine crease, no spine lean, original cover price has been (attempted) punched out (common defect employed by some used bookstores), faint creasing at corners on cover, no soiling or staining to white covers, hint of color rubbing to cover, no former owner markings or used bookstore markings inside, no missing pages, no creased pages, pages are flat and tight and appear unread. Overall a VG+/FINE- book of this rare 1970s Dean Koontz pen name book. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Dean Koontz 1st printing hardcover/paperback/magazine appearances up for sale. This collection represents his efforts to have the book published during the early 1970s. Contained here are: a spiral bound, hand made mock-up (measuring 5" x 3.5") assembled by Crumb himself to establish copyright, composed of 143 leaves with 295 distinct illustrations with a photograph of the original manuscript on each page, printed rectos only; a rubber stamp from Dana Crumb used to imprint the inside front cover of the mock-up which reads: "This book is the property of Dana Crumb Associates 819 Eddy Street San Francisco, California 54109 Must Be Returned Within 30 Days of Receipt"; a dummy of the hardbound book as originally conceived by Crumb with blank pages, bound in black cloth and titled in silver and blue; along with a first edition copy of the book published by Scrimshaw Press in 1975, fine in near fine dust jacket. From the collection of his lawyer Albert Morse who is mentioned on the dust jacket flap: "I gave the book as a gift to Dana when I first met her, as a token of my love. We got married shortly after. It has been hidden away all these years, along with some early sketchbooks of mine, and other sophomoric-romantic works done in the throes of horny passion. But now the time has come to review it to the world. I guess. My lawyer Albert Morse think it will sell like hotcakes and make a lot of money. I dunno."A wonderful archive of material from Crumb's first major project. .
