Artforum, New York 1974 - 94pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Cover Image by Ralph Eugene Meatyard. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. This 1974 issue (Volume XIII, Number 3) of the noted periodical "Artforum" features the notorious double-page advertisement designed and paid for by Lynda Benglis featuring a vivid color photograph of the artist naked but for a pair of white sunglasses staring at the viewer while thrusting an amply endowed latex phallus from her vaginal area. It has become one of the most iconic images of the Feminist Art movement, and one that caused tremendous controversy at the time within the magazine's editorial ranks. Additionally featured are articles on "Skyscraper Style: Art Deco New York", John Storrs, William Rubin, Lynda Benglis by Robert Pincus-Witten, Jonathan Borofsky by Lucy R. Lippard, Max Kozloff on Ralph Eugene Meatyard and Photography, as well as a slew of informative period reviews and ads. A most presentable example of what is one of the scarcest and most sought after "Artforum" issues showing some overall wear, rubbing, and handling. It has been priced accordingly. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.         Oregon Trail 1975-2000

Eugene: Bend in the River Council. (1974). An ambitious project conceived by Kesey (as Co-Director) and others to form a Council to address the major problems facing Oregon (and by extension, the U.S.) in a manner which would expose the issues to the public at large and allow for public input. This is a press kit cum prospectus for the council, including numerous separate pieces, e.g. a copy of a letter to Kesey from the Governor, lauding the project; a two-page set of proposals for the creation of the council and its structure and agenda; two issues of The Bend in the River Reality, a broadsheet newspaper, to which Ken Kesey and Ken Babbs, among others, contribute to Issue 1, the "Special Armory Issue," and the same contributions appear in Issue Number 2, the "Special Coast Issue"; there are two magazine-format issues of The BITR Papers, with different color covers and variant content, some of which overlaps with other items in the lot. The intent of the project was to create an educated, informed "Enlightened Constituency" that would "influence not only the state's politicians, the populace and the industry, but the future course of her sister states as well, and thus help steer this nation through the uncharted waters before us." While it may not be attributable to this particular effort, Oregon has become something of a bellwether for the rest of the region and for the country as a whole; one way or another, the project has in many ways largely come to fruition. All housed in a Bend in the River Council folder. Edge-sunned and musty; very good. Rare. First Edition. No Binding.

This book will long remain a unique anthology of the great events that occur when dreamers and theorists can get together with engineers and inventors" (The Economist ). It "is especially noteworthy for its photographic historical record of surprising completeness. Among the diverse items included are a letter from the philosopher Charles S. Peirce that contains the first known description of a switching circuit designed to solve problems of logic, Leonardo Torre's chess-playing machine, and a page of the first program written for a modern computer. Charles and Ray Eames, experts on the presentation of visual documentation on these subjects, are to be complimented on their fine book" (Herbert W. Franke). "Charles Eames (1907-78) and Ray Eames (1912-88) gave shape to America's twentieth century. Their lives and work represented the nation's defining social movements: the West Coast's coming-of-age, the economy's shift from making goods to producing information, and the global expansion of American culture. Their evolution from furniture designers to cultural ambassadors demonstrated their boundless talents and the overlap of their interests with those of their country" (The Library of Congress). Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1973. 175 pp., illus. Edited by Glen Fleck. Oblong quarto, original three-quarter cloth over linen boards, original printed dust jacket. Dust jacket with two closed-tears to spine and little edgewear to spine tips and corners. Clean text, crisp pages, and excellent binding. A beautiful copy of a visually stunning book.
