        Turtle Island

New Directions, New York 1974 - 114pp. Octavo [21 cm] Chartreuse cloth covered boards with a black ink stamped title on the spine. Very good. The spine is discolored. The dust jacket is in Very good condition as well. A sticker announcing the book as a Pulitzer Prize winner has been adhered to the front panel. The edges of the rear panel are barely perceptibly foxed. Turtle Island received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. From the jacket- "The nearly five dozen poems in the book range from the lucid, lyrical, almost mystical to the mythobiotic, while a few are frankly political. All, however, share a common vision: a rediscovery of this land and the ways by which we might become natives of the place, ceasing to think and act (after all these centuries) as newcomers and invaders."         Codex Borbonicus: Bibliothèque de l'Assemblée nationale Paris (Y 120). Vollstaendige Faksimile Ausg. des Codex im Originalformat. Codices selecti; XLIV.

Akademische Druck u. Verlagsanstalt, Graz, 1974. 39 p. 39x40 cm bross + 1 tavola costituita da 36 fogli uniti di misura 40x1420 cm ca. (40 cm x 142 METRI!!!) custodia editoriale di misure 44x43x5 cm. The Codex Borbonicus is an Aztec codex written by Aztec priests shortly before or after the Spanish conquest of Mexico. The codex is named after the Palais Bourbon in France. It is held at the Bibliothèque de l'Assemblée Nationale in Paris. In 2004 Maarten Jansen and Gabina Aurora Pérez Jiménez proposed that it be given the indigenous name Codex Cihuacoatl after the goddess Cihuacoatl. The Codex Borbonicus is a single 46.5-foot (14.2 m long sheet of amatl "paper". Although there were originally 40 accordion-folded pages the first two and the last two pages are missing. Like all pre-Columbian codices it was originally entirely pictorial in nature although some Spanish descriptions were later added. There is dispute as to whether the Codex Borbonicus is pre-Columbian as the calendar pictures all contain room above them for Spanish descriptions. Codex Borbonicus can be divided into three sections: The first section is one of the most intricate surviving divinatory calendars (or tonalamatl). Each page represents one of the 20 trecena (or 13-day periods) in the tonalpohualli (or 260-day year). Most of the page is taken up with a painting of the ruling deity or deities with the remainder taken up with the 13 day-signs of the trecena and 13 other glyphs and deities. With these 26 symbols the priests were able to create horoscopes and divine the future. The first 18 pages of the codex (all that remain of the original 20) show considerably more wear than the last sections very likely indicating that these pages were consulted more often. The second section of the codex documents the Mesoamerican 52 year cycle showing in order the dates of the first days of each of these 52 solar years. These days are correlated with the nine Lords of the Night. The third section is focused on rituals and ceremonies particularly those that end UsatoBuono Anno pubblicazione: 1974. 23 ...

The Drowning Pool (Original screenplay for the 1975 film)

Warner Brothers / First Artists / Coleytown / Turman-Foster, Burbank, CA 1974 - Revised Final Shooting script for the 1974 film. Based on the 1950 Lew Archer novel by Ross Macdonald. Private investigator Harper (Newman) returns in this sequel to the eponymous 1966 film, investigating a blackmail plot in a Louisiana bayou, where he finds himself in between an ex-lover, an oil tycoon, and the local police. In this early draft of the script Newman's character is named Lew Ryan, perhaps evidence that the production did not begin as a direct sequel to %Harper,% but simply as an adaptation of the source material. Set in Louisiana, and shot there on location.Blue studio wrappers. Title page present, dated September 16, 1974, and October 3, 1974 (Revision), noted as FINAL SHOOTING SCRIPT, with credits for screenwriter Wynn and novelist Macdonald. 128 leaves, with last leaf of text numbered 130. Mechanically reproduced, on white stock, with pink, yellow, goldenrod, and green revision pages throughout, dated variously between 9/30/74 and 10/6/74.         Tragedy and Hope - A History of the World in Our Time

Publisher Uncertain, USA 1974 - Signed Signed and inscribed by Carroll Quigley upon half-title page in black marker, dated 1974. 1348 pages. Index. No dust jacket. "Shows the years 1895-1950 as a period of transition from the world dominated by Europe in the nineteenth century to the world of three blocs in the twentieth century." - from dust jacket (not included). Most notable for its revelation of plans for a global government, based upon Quigley's access to secret archives. Author mentored Bill Clinton at Georgetown. Clean with light wear. Binding sound. Unmarked but for incidental 1/4" ball pen mark to page 105. Prior owner's bookplate inside front board. Although this copy satisfies many points of being a first printing, our research suggests it may be a bootleg reprint, circa 1974, therefore we offer it as such.         ANTONIO SAURA.

Ed. Peso 705 gr.

        Ma Gastronomie

Wilton, CT: Lyceum Press, 1974. Quarto, 191 pages. Photographically illustrated. First English language edition of this touchstone book for so many of today's chefs. Point's posthumous work is part memoir, part culinary guide and part cookbook. The book was finally made available again in 2008, with a new introduction by Chef Thomas Keller, in which he says, "Through Chef Point's words I finally understood and discovered a higher sense of purpose. . . .," High praise indeed from Thomas Keller. In our experience, this was always the one book being sought when a young cook, grease spattered and tired-eyed, would enter our shop, saying "chef told me I have to read this book..." Tiny bit of spotting to top edge of text block, otherwise a fine copy, in the brown dust jacket, with some light edgewear and small ink mark to the front jacket flap. Inscribed on the half-title by Madame Point, "Livre souvenir de Fernand Point, en hommage gastronomique, Mme F. Point.

Winston S Churchill, His Complete Speeches 1897-1963, full set of 8 volumes

New York: Chelsea House Publishers in association with R. R. Bowker Company, 1974. First edition. Hardcover. During more than half a century of public life Sir Winston Churchill delivered speeches whose incisive wit, artful cadence, stinging criticism, soaring sentiment, and resolute defiance still echo today. This complete set of 8 massive volumes contains the vast majority of Churchill's speeches from 1897 to 1963. The set is nearly 9,000 pages in length, takes up 18 inches of shelf space, and weighs 34 pounds. Before this incredible undertaking, many of Churchill's speeches had never been published in volume form. A great many of these impressive sets ended up in libraries, and consequently bear ex-library wear and markings. This set is NOT ex-library; we find no previous ownership marks, either within or on the text block edges or bindings. Overall condition approaches very good minus. The bindings all retain strong color and show only light wear to extremities, with all bindings still attached to the massive text blocks, even if a few bindings have hinges that are tender or starting. The contents remain bright within. Spotting appears confined to the page edges, with a small stain affecting the Volume I frontispiece, title page, and Preface. Volume VIII is the most flawed, with a sizable bump at the lower front hinge and wrinkling to the lower fore edge of pages 8650-8917, not from moisture but rather as if the sharp corner of another volume was once dropped on the lower fore edge of this volume. Withal, a full set with no previous ownership marks with good shelf presentation at a price considerably less than a near-fine or better set would command. Please note that this large, heavy set may require additional postage. Bibliographic reference: Cohen A284.1, Woods/ICS A145(a), Langworth p.349.

EAU SOUS TERRE Cinqu Poèmes d'Arlain Jouffroy sur cinq gravures de MANINA

RENZO SOMMARUGA, 1974.

Swatches of the appropriate fabrics, black and blue muslin with metallic embroidered flowers, are attached. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year.
