The Tamarind Seed (Original screenplay for the 1974 film, with six original film still photographs)

London: AVCO Embassy Pictures, 1973. Draft script for the 1974 film. From the collection of still photographer Bob Willoughby. Rainbow copy with blue, pink, and white leaves. Included are six vintage black-and-white single weight reference still photographs from the film. Bob Willoughby (1927-2009) studied with Saul Bass at the Kann Institute of Art in Los Angeles, worked as a photographer for magazines such as "Life," "Look," and "Harper's Bazaar," and as a set photographer for every major studio, documenting some of most important films of the era and creating intimate portraits of some of Hollywood's greatest celebrities. Willoughby moved his family to County Cork, Ireland in 1972, working on only a handful of films through the late 1970s and early 1980s (this was one of his final films), though he would continue to photograph, exhibit, and publish books for the remainder of his life. Based on Evelyn Anthony's 1971 novel, about a woman on holiday in the Caribbean who meets a handsome Russian. Judith Farrow (Andrews) meets Feodor Sverdlov (Sharif), and together they visit all the beautiful spots on the island, but Judith's ties to the British government, and Feodor's to the Russian government cause problems for their romance. An underrated but serious look at espionage in the Cold War. Set in Barbardos and shot on location there, and in London and Paris. Yellow studio wrappers, marked copy No. 122. Title page present, dated April 1973, with credits for screenwriter Edwards. 127 leaves, mimeograph, with pink and blue undated revision pages throughout. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Very Good bound internally with two silver brads. Stills Near Fine.

        Bricklin conceptual car design

1973. Mixed media on paper. Signed "Grasse" Design for Bricklin car company This strikingly handsome sports car design was designed for Malcolm Bricklin's unsuccessful car manufacturing effort of the mid-1970's. He worked for Chrysler, Ford and Nissan, and eventually had his own design firm. From 1973-75, he was Chief Designer for Bricklin. He died in 2010.       George Allen & Unwin 1973 - First edition, fourth impression (1978), signed with characteristic flourish to the ffep by the author: “with love/ Roald Dahl”. To the bottom corner of the front pastedown is a small bookseller's label, identifying the seller as The Abbey Bookshop in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, the village where Dahl lived for over 30 years and where the book was written - a nice association. A lovely, Near Fine+ copy: tight and square binding in pictorial boards; both internally and externally very bright, crisp and clean; Fine but for a little sunning to the spine, a trace of dustiness to the top edge of the page block, and a little offsetting and a couple of tiny faint marks to the rfep.         Law, Legislation and Liberty - A New Statement of the Liberal Principles of Justice and Political Economy, Volume 1 [Vol. I]: Rules and Order

The University of Chicago Press, 1973, Hardcover, Book Condition: Fine, First Edition, Signed. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall, xi, 184 pp. Index. Footnotes. Signed (F.A.H.) and inscribed atop front free endpaper by Hayek to his colleague, legal scholar Theo Mayer-Maly, whose bookplate is affixed below. "What I am ultimately concerned with here... is that destruction of values by scientific error which has increasingly come to seem to me the great tragedy of our time - a tragedy, because the values which scientific error tends to dethrone are the indispensable foundation of all our civilization, including the very scientific efforts which have turned against them." - from Introduction. Moderate age-toning to endpapers. Quarter-inch incidental mark to margin of page four, otherwise very clean, bright and unmarked with negligible wear. A superb copy. Machlup B-15.

With Seventeen Signed Color Photographs. Los Angeles: Natural History Museum, 1973. First Edition. Folio. Cloth Portfolio in Slipcase. Photography Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. np (4pp) + seventeen 13 x 15" archival cardstock sheets each with a 7 1/2 x 9 1/2" type-C color photographic print mounted on the recto, 17 color illustrations. "Marine Portfolio II" is the late Los Angeles based underwater photographer and art collector Edwin Janss' spectacular second - of three total - collection of original color photographic prints of fish, corals, and mostly nudibranchs taken during Mr. Janss' many dives in the Pacific Ocean. It features a brief foreword by the then-director of Los Angeles' Natural History Museum Giles W. Mead accompanied by seventeen vivid 7 1/2 x 9 1/2" color images each mounted on a 13 x 15" archival cardstock sheet additionally NUMBERED AND SIGNED "Edwin Janss" in pencil on the recto. A brand new, internally most handsome example of this exceedingly uncommon, luxe item showing just a bit of wear and trivial spotting to the publisher's dark brown slipcase. While not marked in any way, this came to us directly from the library of Janss' close friend, the late, great artist Sam Francis. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.         The Wicker Man (Post Production Script, September 1973)

London: Pinewood Studios, 1973. Cutting and Continuity script for the 1973 film, "The Wicker Man," directed and written for the screen by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee. An important and rare document that details a now-classic film that from the beginning experienced serious complications. The original film negatives were mistakenly destroyed, followed by years of spurious and unauthorized editing by various distributors (the film did not even screen in the US until 1975). Even today's "director's cut" is only roughly reconstructed from various existing prints, with a relatively long discourse regarding the origins of his island's culture and fruit by Lee's character, Lord Summerisle, still completely missing. This continuity represents the film's original, unexpurgated edit. The front wrapper reads "Printed in London / September 1973," and the film debuted in England in December of that same year, making this likely one of the earliest printed continuities, if not the first. Laid in is a cast and credits list that notes a running time of 86 minutes (contrasted with the most recent reconstruction, which runs 100 minutes). Green card wrappers, with credits on the title page for director-screenwriter Hardy and producer Peter Snell. 192 pages, long sheets, prong binding at the top edge. Very Good or better condition overall.
