Near Fine copy in a Good dust jacket. Clean, square binding.         [Photographie originale] Trois tirages de deux portraits photographiques de Chris Marker portant des masques de Folon. Photographies par Jean-Michel Folon. Circa 1972

1972. Photo. Illus. by Jean-Michel Folon. Bon. Aucune reliure.

Tirages rares. Bel état..

1972. Photo. Illus. by Jean-Michel Folon. Très bon. Aucune reliure. Tirages rares. Bel état..

        Existential Errands

Little Brown, Boston, 1972. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine Condition/Very Good. Signed by Author. Surface marks to jacket and a slight paper adhesion on the rear panel, short tears to jacket at spine ends, still attractive and very good. Faint wear and discoloration to book edges. Inscribed by Mailer "To Buzz and Carol These were the years, hey gang? Love Norman May '72". Buzz and Carol Farbar were longtime friends of Mailer's from the publishing business - Buzz was involved in Mailer's three movies (Maidstone, Wild 90 and Beyond the Law), playing Buzz Cameo in the improvised gangster film "Wild 90" which is the subject of the essay "Some Dirt in the Talk" in this collection. Years later Buzz was arrested in a sting operation trying to buy a kilo of cocaine (actually a harmless white powder being shopped by an undercover agent). In return for a promise of a radically reduced sentence, Buzz was convinced to wear a wire to a lunch at Armando's in Brooklyn with Mailer where he would get Norman to admit that he was the money guy in an international hashish ring run by Mailer's onetime associate Richard Stratton. It didn't work out and Buzz was given no a harsh 6 year sentence. His wife Carol divorced him in 1985 and he ended up tragically committing suicide after being released from prison. Needless to say, rumors about Mailer's involvement in the drug smuggling and in Buzz's silence on the matter have made the rounds over the years. A terrific association with a close associate and one of the more puzzling episodes in one of the great literary lives of the 20th century. Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Essays & Literary Criticism; Signed by Author. Inventory No: 043587. .

New York: Siamese Banana, 1972. First edition. Wraps. Very Good. 4to. Side-stapled mimeograph. Fine but for mild damp-stain (which a colleague humorously referred to as "authentic New York School soilage") to lower edge of - mainly - front cover; traces of same to rear cover and bottom edge, close inspection only. Else sharp and bright. First edition, one of 26 lettered copies signed by Brainard. The "A" copy. Typical Brainard: gossipy, funny, and erotic. Filled with New York School in-jokes and sexually graphic images. There was an unsigned edition (no apparent priority), which strangely seems more uncommon than the signed. OCLC notes more than a third of this edition already behind institutional walls. Arguably the most desirable copy of an increasingly scarce Brainard title.

New York: Warner Paperback Library 1st Editions 1972-1975 ----------36 paperbacks, some are Canadian printings. In 1972 to 1975, Warner Paperback Library issued these 36 Avenger novels, reprinting the 24 novels from the "The Avenger" hero pulp magazine (24 issues, September 1939 to September 1942), plus 12 new original novels continuing the series, all as FIRST EDITION PAPERBACK ORIGINALS. All 36 books offered here, the COMPLETE SET, are FIRST printings, there are NO later printings. Paul Ernst (1899-1985), using the famous house name Kenneth Robeson (which was also used on the Doc Savage pulp) wrote the first 24 books for the pulp magazine, and they are reprinted here in book form for the first time. Books 25-36 were written by Ron Goulart (1933- ), also using the Robeson pseudonym, as new books published here for the first time. Front cover art was by Peter Caras for the first 8 volumes, and by George Gross for all other volumes. As for condition, this is a marvellous set, with, but for the most modest shelfwear, almost all of the books being unread as new. Descriptions of the few exceptions follow: # 2, faint reading crease / # 28 faint reading crease, 4 small drops of some liquid which has penetrated the front cover and marked the verso and first page as well, pen price on first page, mild edgewear / # 32 some edgewear, corner crease / # 36 faint corner crease.       London: New English Library 1972 - Uncorrected Proof Copy of this unpublished book. Original green printed card covers, in the dustwrapper. An excellent FINE copy, without inscriptions or stamps. Illustrated throughout. Complete with the NEAR FINE lightly creased dustwrapper with the publisher's stamp reading "Publication 20 APR 1972" to the underside. The dustwrapper illustration is by Tony Lamb, the image repeated without colour as an illustration in the book. The book had it made publication, would almost certainly have been issued with a laminated hardcover or as a paperback original so the dustwrapper seen here is most likely the proof artwork for the upper and lower covers (a theory further supported by the very thin and completely blank flaps). Loosely laid in is the publisher's slip with the signature in red ink of Mark Howell underneath which Peter Haining has signed and inscribed "The compiler of this little opportunist book which was never published!". Rare. We are aware of only two other copies, both lacking the dustwrapper / cover artwork; one copy in the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library at Emory University, the other sold at auction in 2006 (front cover detached).Provenance: Mark Howell, editor New English Library; then to Peter Haining, editorial director New English Library. The best John Lennon book never published! Compiled from interviews given by Lennon over 1970 and 1971 the book was due to be published by New English Library in April 1972 but was pulled at the last minute. There are several theories for this, the strongest being that the publication might jeopardise John's already troublesome application for his US Green Card, a fight that started following his deportation in February 1972 up until being granted permanent residency in July 1976.
