Visions of Cody. Introduction by Allen Ginsberg

New York: McGraw Hill,, 1972. Octavo. Original burgundy cloth, titles to spine gilt, top edge stained brown, tan endpapers. With the dust jacket. Top edge a trifle marked, spine lettering slightly dull but an excellent copy in the dust jacket. First collected edition, first printing. A remarkable association copy with Ginsberg's full page presentation inscription to his lover Peter Orlowsky, "For Peter dear coming back from Washington DC seeing McCarthy CIA Dentist Named White House Circumambulation Gaté [come/gone] Gaté [come/or gone] paragaté [shore gone] parasamgaté [other shore totally gone] Bodhi [Mind] Svaha [amen] - what would Jack've thought? Allen Nov 28 1972" This mantra is adapted from the so-called Heart Sutra Dance (Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha - Going, Always Going, Going Beyond, Further Beyond, Completely Gone to Buddhahood, Svaha - So Be It) and relates almost too perfectly to the great scandal which would eventually lead to Nixon's demise. A truly wonderful Beat association, inscribed by Ginsberg just three years after Kerouac's untimely death and at a key moment in modern US history.

Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Photography Monograph. Near Fine./Good +.. np (200pp), profusely illustrated in b&w. "The Face of Love" is one of the lesser-known yet still classic books of erotic imagery from the sixties. It is a compilation of the dark, grainy nudes of both women and couples by the Dutch photographer Sanne Sannes, who was tragically killed in 1967 in an automobile accident at the age of thirty. Like his "Sex a Go Go", this was a posthumously published (in 1972), and it includes appreciative essays by Jim Hughes and Louwrien Wijers. A most handsome copy of the book itself whose price-clipped dust jacket shows light overall wear, rubbing and soiling, some creasing and minor paper loss at the extremities, and a diagonal closed tear to the front panel starting at the spine. It has been priced accordingly. Munich, Germany: Rogner & Bernhard, 1972. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Munich, Germany: Rogner & Bernhard, 1972. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 90 pages. Artist Book. One of the greatest photography books of the 20th century. Limited Edition of 2000 copies. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely beautiful production by Pierre Molinier and Rogner & Bernhard: Regular-sized volume format. Black cloth boards with black titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and photographic tableaux by Pierre Molinier. Essay by Peter Gorsen. Printed on thick coated stock paper in Munich, Germany to absolutely the highest standards. In publisher's original paper wrappers. In glassine DJ, as issued. Presents some of the most hauntingly beautiful auto-erotic photographs ever taken by an artist/photographer who was truly way ahead of his time. The challenge Molinier poses is fundamental: Is he an artist or not? That is to say, his fetishism can be easily dismissed and its transcendent beauty denied. His is the work of someone who was, on the outside, a conventionally handsome and refined French gentleman. His unsettling work, which he produced for his own private pleasure, belies this mask and rejects it. Because he also created remarkable etchings and paintings, Pierre Molinier did not think of himself primarily as a photographer but as an artist who fully realized his vision through photography. He shot carefully staged photographic tableaux that utilized mannequins and other props. The latter remind us of his obsession with sex as pure fantasy, as something which begins and ends as a fantasy that can never be achieved in reality. In the process, he created some of the most disturbingly beautiful photographs of the 20th century. Molinier proves that the erotic (as opposed to the pornographic) is ultimately about beauty (rather than about sex) , an aesthetic (rather than a sexual) experience. Lucas Samaras, Helmut Newton, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Ellen von Unwerth, among many others, would not be possible without Molinier's pioneering example. A masterpiece, this is a "must-have" title for Pierre Molinier and erotic art photography collectors. This is an Import title and is now highly collectible. This is one of very few copies still available online, is still in the publisher's original paper wrappers, and is especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a beauty. A rare copy thus. 50 plates. Selected as one of the "Seminal Photography Books of the 20th Century" in the "Book of 101 Books". One of the greatest artist/photographers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 3920802950.

        Chapultepec: Historia y presencia

Smurfit Carton y Papel de Mexico. Hardcover. 9687193042 Dust jacket condition: Good. Wear and tear to jacket. Massive book. Due to weight, no foreign orders or domestic priority shipments accepted without prior arrangement as to shipping costs, which will exceed our usual rates. Spanish/English text. From the Foreword: This year Smurfit. Carton y Papel de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. presents Chapultepec, the sixteenth book of its CPM collection (Culture and Past of Mexico). This program of cultural promotion consists in the publication of unique, non-commercial books, profusely illustrated, which present different aspects of Mexico's rich historical and artistical heritage. Through this program we try to contribute to the promotion of our country's cultural values. Within the CPM program, which started in 1972 by presenting different aspects of the country's cultural wealth, we have published sixteen titles which cover from the Pre-hispanic era up to our days. This book in particular distinguishes itself from previous editions, because instead of dealing with *an event, an era or a person, it refers to a very important site, loved by everyone. Chapultepec, forest and castle, is a site which has lived through man's history in Mexico. Its name in nahuatl means "Grasshopper Hill" (Chapul--the abbreviation of chapulin [grasshopper]-- and tepetl --locative which refers to hill). It does not cease to intrigue us why our ancestors chose the name of the insect which visits us every year at the end of the rainy season to designate this sacred place. The name also extended to designate the exuberant forest with multiple water springs, that for centuries supplied water to Mexico Tenochtitlan. From the top of the hill there is an extraordinary view of the City and the Valley of Mexico, a sight which not only surpasses the immense trees, but also the numerous skyscrapers which progress has brought along. This rocky promontory evokes our history from the time previous to the arrival of the Spanish conquerors, continuing with the viceroys' recreational grounds; the first castle in America; the Heroic Military Academy; Maximilian's short-lived empire; Porfirio Diaz' Republic, followed by the revolutionary governments, until it reached its current status as National Museum of History. President Lazaro Cardenas gave it to the people in 1939, to install there the National Museum of History. However, neither Cardenas nor the presidents who have succeeded him, abandoned Chapultepec, because when they moved the presidential residence to Los Pinos --the old Tacubaya ranch of "La Hormiga" which bordered the aztec's magic forest-- physically and ecologically, its gardens today form part of Chapultepec. However, Chapultepec's role goes beyond the historical site. Today it is a recreational site for the thousands of persons of all ages who visit it daily. It also has seven very important museums which play an eminently educational function. Aside from having the most important zoo in Mexico, Chapultepec offers the visitor a large park with mechanical games, two lakes for rowing, restaurants, fountains, spectacular monuments and, above all, many, many trees, flowers and lawns. The ancient forest --with less foliage today than it had some 40 or 50 years ago, but still very beautiful-- is part of a huge complex of gardens and trees; new sections, which previously had been barren hills with some old, crooked pepper-trees, have been added to the park. Nowadays, a walk through Chapultepec bears no resemblance with those days when carriages and "charros" rode their fine horses and showed off their best attires. Today, we don't see the luxurious automobiles which every Sunday drove slowly through its avenues. Chapultepec now belongs to everyone, and people enjoy it as their own. Happiness abounds; there are picnics, children's parties and races, aside from an avalanche of visitors, young and old, local and foreign, who continuously go up the ramp to the Castle, to enjoy and admire the splendid view from its terraces. The subject has enraptured us and we have tried to present it with the respect it deserves. We hope to transmit to our readers this same enthusiasm for Chapultepec. 211 pages. Your order will be on its way by the next business day! . Very Good. 1988.

The River Styx, Ohio and Other Poems

NY: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. (1972). The uncorrected proof copy of the second book by this Pulitzer Prize winning and National Book Award-winning poet. 8-1/2" x 11" galleys, printed on rectos only, bound in red wrappers printed in a pattern with the HBJ logo. In our experience, HBJ proofs in this large format are quite scarce, suggestive of their having had very limited print runs. We've never seen this proof before, and we don't find any records for it in institutional holdings. Slight splay to front cover; else fine. An uncommon early book by one of the most highly regarded American poets working today. . First Edition. Softcover.

New York: Siamese Banana, 1972. First edition. Wraps. Very Good. 4to. Side-stapled mimeograph. Fine but for mild damp-stain (which a colleague humorously referred to as "authentic New York School soilage") to lower edge of - mainly - front cover; traces of same to rear cover and bottom edge, close inspection only. Else sharp and bright. First edition, one of 26 lettered copies signed by Brainard. The "A" copy. Typical Brainard: gossipy, funny, and erotic. Filled with New York School in-jokes and sexually graphic images. There was an unsigned edition (no apparent priority), which strangely seems more uncommon than the signed. OCLC notes more than a third of this edition already behind institutional walls. Arguably the most desirable copy of an increasingly scarce Brainard title.
