        Struttura colore n. 1.

Segue i corsi superiori all’Istituto magistrale a Trento.

[Poster]: The Fabulous Cockettes Host a Private Benefit Soiree Featuring The First Annual Miss deMeanor Beauty Pagent (sic) and dance With special added attractions Lady Divine

San Francisco: House of Good. 1972. Original large illustrated broadside on pink thin cardstock. 11.5" x 17.5". Art signed in the print by "W.R.S. '72". Slight wear, very near fine. A very attractive poster of a drag queen beauty pageant contestant parading about with bouquet and sash. This was one of the first San Francisco appearances by Divine (born Harris Glenn Milstead). Divine was described by "People Magazine" as the "Drag Queen of the Century," a character actor who usually played female roles, particularly for filmmaker John Waters. According to Bernard Jay's biography Not Simply Divine, Waters wrote a speech for Divine's appearance here, intended to shock the not easily shockable audience, "I smuggle rotten fruit into California and I eat pounds of white sugar! I had to come to California because I killed a couple of cops back East! Don't you realiuze? I killed Sharon Tate, and they've arrested the wrong people!" The Cockettes, a psychedelic drag queen troupe founded by Hibiscus (George Harris) performed outrageous parodies of show tunes, and much else. Breaking many social, cultural, and sexual boundaries along the way, they alos influenced the glitter rock-era of David Bowie, Elton John, and The New York Dolls. A very nice and much larger than usual broadside. .

Christianity at Glacier [Signed] [Kristnihald undir Jökli]

Reykjavik: Helgafell [Vikingsprent], 1972. First edition in English Translation. A Very Good copy of the first edition in English translation (bump to the lower leading edge of each board, otherwise Fine), in a Fine dust jacket with only light wear, SIGNED BY HALLDOR LAXNESS on the title page; originally published in Icelandic as "Kristnihald undir Jökli" (Helgafell, 1968), the novel centers around Pastor Primus, the Pastor at Glacier, certain charges made against him, and the emissary sent by the Bishop of Iceland to investigate the matter. Just before her death, Susan Sontag finished writing a review of the novel (the last review she ever wrote) in which she called it "wildly original, morose, uproarious". Halldor Laxness won the 1955 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his vivid epic power which has renewed the great narrative art of Iceland", making him the first (and, as of the day of this listing, the only) Icelander ever to win the Prize. In our experience, signed copies of trade editions of Laxness' work (as opposed to Limited Editions which are called to be signed) are not terribly common to the market, and signed copies of this work by Halldor Laxness are quite uncommon, especially when in a condition as nice as is this copy. A nice copy of this highly-notable and much-discussed novel by Halldor Laxness, SIGNED BY HALLDOR LAXNESS. QUITE SCARCE INDEED.

The result [is this] massive, handsomely designed volume [that] captures the art world at one of its most volatile and vivid peaks...[Mulas] was ideally suited to infiltrate that scene as a sympathetic and unobtrusive observer...With more than 500 photos reproduced in heavily inked, knockout black-and-white, the book has a marvelous scope. Its arresting cover image-a pair of New York cops confronting a gaggle of bohemians at a party in Andy Warhol's Factory-isn't typical, but it suggests something of the scene's exhilaration and notoriety..."         Poesies Antillaises

Paris, Fernand Mourlot 1972 - Portfolio loose in Velin d’Arches, collected in the original orange chemise with the lithographed manuscripted title, well preserved in the original orange cloth clamshell box. The portfolio contains 28 lithographs in full page in brown, 27 Initial Letters, and numerous ornamental drawings in blue. Limited edition of 275 copies, of which our copy is one of 200 exemplars (N. 209) Matisse conceived this portfolio in honor of his traveler poet friend John-Antoine Nau that he met in the early 1900 during a trip in Martinique, the island then become a common loved and inspiring place, for both the poet and the artist. Matisse begun his project in 1945, working with exotic models from Martinique and Le Malgache toward the illustrations of the portfolio, and choosing among the most evocative poems that best draw his inspiration. Matisse created, on the wave of this emotional poems of Nau, 27 beautiful women's faces, each with a different expressions and intensive look that reflect their deep and secret mood. As frontispiece Matisse drew a portrait of John Antoine Nau, from a picture that he requested and obtained from the heirs of the poet. Many ornamental drawings and ornate initial Letters complete the portfolio. It took 8 years of Matisse life to complete his drawings and assemble the portfolio, but unfortunately Matisse never saw this work published, due to financial problems and the precarious health of the artist, the portfolio was issued 20 years after his death. One of the most important and beautiful work form Matisse, a scarce edition in excellent condition Ref: Duthuit 37 - Manet to Hockney, No. 129 [Attributes: Hard Cover]
