The Oxford Companion to the Theatre

London: Oxford University Press, , 1972. Third edition. Octavo (230 x 145 mm). Presentation binding of purple full morocco for Asprey, decorative gilt spine tooled with the motifs of Comedy & Tragedy, two-line gilt border on sides enclosing single roll tool border with ornamental corner pieces, all edges gilt, two-line gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers. Spine lightly sunned. A handsomely bound copy. Presentation copy to one of the greats of British television comedy and light entertainment, Ronnie Barker (1929-2005), inscribed on a preliminary blank leaf: "To Ronnie, To say Congratulations on 25 'Glorious Years' (contrary to the vicious slur about your age on p. 80) luv Danni (?) 11.11.73". This was clearly signed at a star-studded party celebrating Barker's quarter century in the business (he made his professional debut as an actor on 15 November 1948 as Lieutenant Spicer in a performance of J. M. Barrie's Quality Street). Amongst the many luminaries who have signed are Josephine Tewson and June Whitfield, both of whom performed many times with Barker, Richard Briers, Michael Bates, Michael Hordern, Frank Windsor, Barker's agent Peter Eade, Joan Sims, and Barker's long-time partner and co-star of The Two Ronnies, Ronnie Corbett.

[Original Pen and Ink Panel for:] THE DOCTOR'S DILEMMA [caption title]

[New York?: The Artist, 1972. Original pen and ink cartoon panel on artist's tracing paper (298 x 168 mm, plus ample margins). A few marginal finger smudges, but about fine. Double-matted. The original artwork for this collaborative five-panel (plus title) comic strip by Ashbery and Brainard, prepared for publication in the 1 November 1972 issue of CHICAGO (Kermani C204). With Ashbery's name incorporated in the title panel at top, and captioned at the bottom, "Drawn by Brainard." A fine example of the significant body of collaborative work by two friends, which manifested itself early on in the era of 'C' COMICS and the ferment of the 1960s New York literary and artistic community.

Monty Python's Flying Circus Season 3 Episode 10: "E. Henry Thripshaw's Disease" (Original script for the 1972 television episode)

London: British Broadcasting Corporation [BBC], 1972. Draft script for the 36th episode (season 3, episode 10) of the British comedy series, aired in 1972. As it had not yet been ordered in the series when issued, it is noted here as "Episode 13." John Cleese was once asked in an interview what he felt was the difference between the development of comedy for Saturday Night Live (which he hosted several times) and Monty Python's Flying Circus. His response was that it was pretty much the opposite of live sketch comedy, in that SNL would "write the show in a day, rehearse for a week, and perform it live," while the Python troupe would "write the show for a year, build the sets in a day, and record it in an hour and a half." One need look no further than this meticulously detailed script from the legendary series, which notes every detail of the preparation to which Cleese referred, including exactly 90 minutes during which the content was actually recorded, as well as every detail of each sketch. The BBC censored this episode more than any other in the series, cutting three sketches ("Big Nosed Sculptor," "Revolting Cocktails," and "Wee-Wee Wine Cellar"), as well as much of Terry Gilliam's animation, all now believed to be lost. All of these missing sketches appear in this script. The episode that aired contained the remaining sketches: "Tudor Jobs Agency," "Pornographic Bookshop," "Elizabethean Pornography Smugglers," "Silly Disturbances," "The Free Repitition of Doubtful Words," "'Is There?'...Life after Death?," "The Man Who Says Things in the Wrong Order," "Thripshaw's Disease," "Silly Noises," and "Sherry-drinking Vicar." Yellow self-wrappers, mechanically reproduced, 66 leaves. Pages and wrapper Near Fine bound with a single tarnished silver brad at the upper left corner.

[Vgl. Vostell.         Alea encuentros 1972 Pamplona. Encuentros - Rencontres - Meetings - Treffen - Incontri. 26. VI - 3. VII 1972 Pamplona. Organizacion ALEA, Direccion Luis de Pablo y J.L. Alexanco.

Pamplona. Edit. ALEA. 1972. First edition. 28 x 21 cm. 306 unpaginierte S. OKarton. \"The crux of the idea was to create a new way of inhabiting art, sharing the stage, getting the spectator involved, bringing feelings together in harmony, mixing the avant-garde with the traditional, art with sound, with constant attention paid to the quality of the events and their ability to come alive. The title would define our wish; the location was ideal for fitting enough venues into the old quarter of a city to host the numerous artistic happenings that were proposed. The main figures were sought among those who embodied what was to come and what had already become established in the different trends. It lent itself to putting new concepts face to face with those that were already apparently settled. The controversy was on.\" (José Luis Alexanco José Luis Alexanco). Versand D: 2,00 EUR 20.         Max Ernst.

Max Ernst (* 2. April 1891 in Brühl - + 1. Shashin yo Sayonara / Bye, Bye Photography, Dear

Tokyo: Shashin Hyoron-sha, 1972. Light inevitable creases at the spine, tiny crease to the top of the rear wrapper, small tape shadow to the rear end paper, a thoroughly near fine copy in wrappers in a near fine jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell box.. First Edition. Small quarto. SIGNED by Moriyama in Japanese and English. The photographer's third book: a masterpiece of Japanese photography, and the book that best illustrates the conceptual ideals and vision of the Provoke photographers. Here Moriyama pushes the boundaries of the medium: assembling images from a variety of sources, placing them in a tumultuous and discordant anti-sequence, and assaulting the viewer with full-page grainy, blurry, and sometimes indecipherable pictures. (Parr / Badger, v1, 298; Roth 218; Open Book 290; Auer 543).

Small craft warnings. A New Directions Book. Book Club Edition.

ohne Ort, New Directions Book, cop. 1972. 1. Tennessee Williams (* 26. März 1911 in Columbus, Bundesstaat Mississippi - + 25. Michelson is today a Professor of Cinema Studies at New York University. In this volume, published in 1972, Brakhage investigates four of the principal architects of cinema, including Sergei Eisenstein.
