        DRESS HER IN INDIGO.

      J. B. Lippincott Company, 1971. - First hardcover edition. Fine, bright copy in a lightly rubbed dust jacket. Published as a paperback original in 1969, this was the second Travis McGee novel to be published in hardcover by Lippincott and preceded the Robert Hale U. K. hardcover edition by one month. A wealthy old man laid up in the hospital is desperate to understand the last months of his daughter's life before she was killed in a car crash in Mexico. It was puzzling. She'd cleaned out her considerable bank account, left Miami and hadn't been heard from again. Travis McGee ventures into the steep hills and strange backwoods of Oaxaca through a bizarre world of dropouts, drug freaks, and kinky rich people--and begins to suspect the beautiful girl's death was no accident.         Auguste Renoir, Catalogue Raisonné de l'Oeuvre Peint, Figures 1860-1890

Lausanne: Editions Durand-Ruel, 1971. Lausanne: Editions Durand-Ruel, 1971. First Edition. Hardback. Very Good/Very good. 2657 Folio. The first in what was to have been a set of five volumes of the catalogue raisonné of Renoir's work. This first volume, however, was the only one to appear of this particular project. It includes a preface by Charles Durand-Ruel, an introductory chapter on Renoir as a figure painter, an account of his life (pages 31 to 60 plus bibliography to page 74; illustrated in colour reproductions, typically quarter page, of some of the paintings). The catalogue itself is organised with four monochrome reproduction to one page and the four catalogue entries facing that page. There is an index with biographical notes of the models known to have sat for Renoir, and lastly an index of owners of the works. This copy is number 1160 of the limited print run of 1850 copies. Condition notes: Some sunning to the dust jacket (unclipped), which also has slight signs of wear. Book itself is firm, clean and bright, with perhaps a little age tanning to the preliminary pages. There is some just-discernible wear to the spine strip. Overall a very good copy in a very good dust jacket. (If you are looking at this listing on a site that shows photographs, please be assured- the wide angled lens used has caused distortion of the image shape, and the book is a regular-issue rectangular one!).

Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream

New York: Random House, 1971. New York: Random House, 1971 Illustrated by Ralph Steadman. First edition, first printing. Publisher's black cloth spine over dark gray boards, Steadman's Raoul Duke illustration to the front cover in blind, spine lettered in metallic silver; original pictorial dust jacket designed by Susan Schwaab, with Steadman's illustration of Duke and Dr. Gonzo driving through the desert, lettered in blue, red, and black. A fine copy, with a hint of wear to the extremities, fresh pages; unclipped dust jacket, with some light wear and minor soiling to the extremities, slight crease to the front panel, else fine. A bright and pleasing copy. Originally published in Rolling Stone, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the author's best known "failed but essentially noble experiment in Gonzo journalism," a literary genre that subjectively blends truth and fiction. The novel tells of the protagonist Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr. Gonzo as they travel on a drug-fueled, wild adventure "into the heart of the American Dream." The plot is loosely based on the author's actual adventures with American attorney and activist Oscar Zeta Acosta and is supplemented with Thompson's reflections on the 1960's counterculture movement. Ralph Steadman's iconic and grotesquely beautiful illustrations animate Thompson's bizarre journey, assisting the reader in picturing the novel's absurd events. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was adapted into a popular film of the same name, starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro, in 1998.. Illus. by Steadman, Ralph. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Dust Jacket Included.

Signed in person in NYC during the 2014 book tour of Mr. Robbins autobiography or as he would say, a true account of an imaginative life, titled Tibetan Peach Pie. Just 2 months shy of his 82nd birthday, Tom Robbins graciously signed this book as well as others. As for the book, the book is tight, crisp and clean. Corners are sharp. Quarter bound with green cloth binding over black cloth. Light rubbing to black cloth on rear cover. Bright green endpapers. Pages lay tight. Deckled foredge. Only flaw keeping the book from grading fine is minor soiling to rear panel and light wear at foot and crown of backstrip. The DJ is in slightly lesser condition than the book. 1st issue DJ with $6.95 price intact on flap. Rear of DJ shows light rubbing and handling. Unforgiving black DJ edges shows a small closed tear to front and rubbing at edges, folds and corners, mostly near the backstrip.         AMONG FRIENDS. Inscribed

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1971. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1971 Fisher, M. F. K. AMONG FRIENDS. Inscribed. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1971. First edition. 8vo., 306pp. . 8vo. 306pp. Publisher's gray cloth stamped silver, green ep's. Warmly inscribed in black ink on the ffe: "For Marjorie Lindner / from M.F.K. Fisher / [Together, we are among / friends!] / Affectionately - / Bareacres Ranch / 1974" A fine fresh copy in like dustwrapper. Among Friends chronicles childhood recollections of growing up in Whittier, California, at the time still a predominately Quaker community. Fisher writes "The white children I knew when I was little had no need to be anything but well fed and secure in the best houses in town where they belonged to the best families. . . Their ancestors, buried in the Whittier cemetery or along the routes to California, had given up other homes just as solid, positions just as secure, to live their own lives as they saw fit, in a place where they could practice their beliefs unscorned. The settlement they named for their American poet would be theirs, and theirs it was when we came to it.". Signed by Author. 1st Edition.

        Barakei / Ordeal by Roses

Tokyo: Shueisha, 1971. Tokyo: Shueisha, 1971. An excellent copy: Very faint crease to front end paper, else just about fine in black felt over boards with an illustration mounted to the front cover (slight crinkle), metal plate mounted on the title page, in a very nice example of the folding chemise, just a hint browned from inevitable offsetting from the flaps, and with only a few spots of foxing to white cloth. The original cardboard is lightly soiled and scratched, with a few small edge tears.. First of this Edition. Oblong folio in elaborate chemise, original card box. The reinvented edition of Hosoe's enduring masterpiece, designed by Tadanori Yokoo, and published just months after Mishima's suicide (his essay has been translated into English). One of the most original productions in the history of 20th century photographic literature.

The General of the Dead Army

London: W. H. Allen, 1971.. London: W. H. Allen, 1971. First Edition of the author's first book to be translated into English. Octavo, original cloth. Warmly inscribed by Kadare on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Kadare was the first recipient of the first Man Booker International Award; beating out several Nobel Laureates. The General of the Dead Army ponders the futility of war as it follows an Italian general and a priest who seek the remains a fallen comrade. It received many positive reviews: "Mr. Kadare advances wryly and dryly into the darkness…[he] doesn't do messages; he brings them to lethal life" (New York Times). And the Boston Globe called it "a powerful and poignant Albanian novel." The novel has also been entered into the Parisian magazine Le Monde's 100 Books of the Century, and twenty years after its publication by Sh.B. Naim Frashëri in 1963 it was adapted into an Italian drama film directed by Luciano Tovoli.
