New York: Self Published, 1971 (1979). New York: Self Published, 1971 (1979). First Edition. Hardcover.. Near Fine/VG+. 4to, Unpaginated (62pp). Black cloth in dustwrapper. The hardcover issue bound by Clark in 1979. A little wear to head and tail of dustwrap, overall a beautiful copy. Flatsigned by Clark to titlepage. More images available on request. Larry Clark's landmark book. Cited as inspiration by such figures as Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, and Gus Van Sant. Its graphic depictions of sex, violence, and drug abuse in the youth culture of Oklahoma were acclaimed by critics for stripping bare the myth that Middle America had been immune to the social convulsions that rocked America in the 1960s. The raw, haunting images taken in 1963, 1968, and 1971 document a youth culture progressively overwhelmed by self-destruction and are as moving and disturbing today as when they first appeared. Cited in numerous publications- 260 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume I", pages 272-73 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", page 25 of "From Fair to Fine: 20th Century Photography Books That Matter", and pages 208-09 of "The Book of 101 Books".         CSP *

Centre Social Protestant, Lausanne 12.1971.

The Package. A Mystery ( SIGNED)

The Bobbs-Merrill Company,, Indianapolis / New York 1971 - Laurie Anderson's first book and signed by her. Laurie Anderson was born in Chicago in 1947. One of eight children. She studied the violin while growing up. Played in the Chicago Youth Symphony. She graduated in 1969 from Bernard College in New york City, and went on to study at Columbia University, working towards a degree in sculpture. The art scene of the early 1970's fostered an experimental attitude among many young artists in downtown N.Y.C that attracted Anderson, and some of her earliest performances as a young artist took place on the street or in informal art spaces. In the most memorable of these, she stood on a block of ice playing her violin while wearing her ice skates. When the ice melted,The performance ended. I mention all of this because I believe Ms. Anderson is a natural resource in New York City. One of our greatest talents. No wonder her steady companion was Lou Reed. This being her first book. Previous owners inscription. Very small lettering and nice handwriting. It is price clipped. Other wise a fine copy. Rare. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Diane Arbus: An Aperture Monograph

Millerton, New York: Aperture. Millerton, New York: Aperture. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE (with "Two girls in identical raincoats" image) of this classic collection of the photographs of Diane Arbus. Following Arbus's suicide in 1971, the curator of MOMA, John Szarkowski, began work on staging a major retrospective of Arbus's work. At first there was little interest in the project and the proposal for the accompanying catalog was rejected by every major publishing house before Aperture magazine's Michael E. Hoffman agreed to print the book. The resulting MOMA retrospective was a huge success, traveling throughout North America and attended by over seven million people; the corresponding book, Diane Arbus: An Aperture Monograph, has since become one of the most influential photography books ever produced, cementing Arbus's reputation as one of the most original and expressive photographers of her time. Millerton, New York: Aperture, (1972). Quarto, original boards with photograph on front panel, original dust jacket. Book near-fine with some foxing at top edge (as usual), dust jacket in outstanding condition with only a slight hint of toning to spine and rear panel edges and tiny closed tear near the top of spine. A beautiful copy, rare in such good condition.

Included are: An uncorrected galley proof, with notations - Signed by William Peter Blatty, A corrected galley proof, with notations- Signed by William Peter Blatty, A promotional page that was separate but is the length of the galley pages, - Signed by William Peter Blatty,An advance reading copy of The Exorcist, with rubber stampings of the publishing house as shown, - Signed by William Peter Blatty, A first edition book of The Exorcist in dust jacket, - Signed by William Peter Blatty,A double lettered copy limited edition of the book which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the film, - Signed by William Peter Blatty (and others as issued), A numbered copy of the book celebrating the 25th anniversary of the book, - Signed by William Peter Blatty (and others as issued), An unopened Exorcist movie CD still in shrink-wrap. I personally presented the galleys, promo sheet, advance reading copy and first edition book (it has some spine slant to the book as shown) to William Peter Blatty many years ago for the signatures. The first edition dust jacket on the book is very good, not price clipped. The number sequence as the rear of the book starts with "1" assuring you it is a first edition. The signatures are at the top portions on the galleys. The text differs in both of these galleys, with hand notations throughout both of them. I cannot show them all-there are too many, but have photographed representative portions of both. They both seem to be complete and were purchased that way many years ago, back in the late 1970's as I recall. They are long and folded on themselves as shown. I have a ruler in the photos to give indication of the size. Both the copies of the limited anniversary editions of the books are as new-never opened but for these photos, and signed by William Peter Blatty as issued. One is in a folding clamshell case, the other in a slip case. They are brand new in like dust jackets. The advance reading copy has the publisher's rubber stamping on the page edges and inside, and is also signed by William Peter Blatty. It has been used, as shown with some spine creasing, etc. as were the galleys. These are important items for an important film in our country's cinematic history. The galley proofs are probably totally one of a kind. Thank you, John Anthony Miller at Phantom Bookshop in Ventura, CA, The corrected galleys are on the left. Note the notations through out both the galleys and the mis-prints. On some photos the first edition book is laid down beside a portion of the galley proof to show the difference. No matter what one thinks, these documents are important which resulted in the culmination of the epic film, like no other ever produced until that time. Only "Rosemary's Baby" book, and hence later the film, was the pre-cursor to "The Exorcist" book and film - whose influence is still being felt even in 2013. I will provide Letters of assurance for all the signatures on the documented material, since I personally presented all this to Mr. Blatty years ago, personally. Thank you, John Anthony Miller (which by the way was the legal name of Justin Miller -mentioned in the film credits, and now deceased-, who portrayed the priest in the epic film. Phantom Bookshop in Ventura, CA. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. I will be happy to send you additional photographs upon request. Thank you, John Anthony Miller, Phantom Bookshop in Ventura, CA  USA

        Original Manuscript Letter Signed (MLS)

Cambridge, 1971.. 2 page-letter with original envelope. 25 x 20 cm. Excellent condition.. A magnificently angry two page autograph letter by the most important English literary critic of the mid-twentieth century. Written after his retirement on his personal headed notepaper (12 Bulstrode Gardens, Cambridge) F R Leavis fulminates to a graduate student who has inadvertently provoked his wrath. The main target is the young man's enthusiasm for James Joyce: 'I explained many years ago why I saved myself for the writers who seem to me most interesting and repaying, and proposed to leave him [underlined] to the academic industrialists (mostly American). At the best he is a sign of approaching death, and not of new life.' Before this extraordinary put-down Leavis writes at length about the paucity of 'real critics' - presumably Leavisites all. And there are harsh words for the 'examinations industry. I have earned much hatred by my downrighteousness about what goes on in the universities. Good teachers [underlined] don't cram or encourage cramming; they are interested in literature and know how to use what intelligent criticism there is.' Leavis writes in an angular hand, using a fountain pen charged with black ink. This letter conveys one side of the reputation of this famously combative critic. In the interest of balance we should report that former students of the great man who we have encountered recall a much gentler more forgiving human being in person.

        AMONG FRIENDS. Signed with TLS

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1971 Fisher, M. F. K. AMONG FRIENDS. Signed with TLS. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1971. First edition. 8vo., 306pp. Publisher's gray cloth stamped silver, green ep's. Avis DeVoto's copy, neatly signed by her on the ffe. A very chatty one page typed letter laid in from Fisher to DeVoto dated September 16th 1986 covering, health, recopies, aging: "Dear Avis / I love being in touch with you. . . About making breakfast that do not combine citrus and starch. . . And I love highly acidic tomatoes either raw or in tinned juice, so why not have them in the morning. . . And not have any bread or toast or whatever for another hour or so?. . . Yes, please do try the sweet onions in milk. And the milk is delicious later in soups or sauces. It's fun to use the long red trumpet onions . . . They turn rather lavenderish in the milk. . . / With much love / MFK" A fine letter & marvellous Association Copy, fine in price-clipped dustwrapper. Among Friends chronicles childhood recollections of growing up in Whittier, California, at the time still a predominately Quaker community. Fisher writes "The white children I knew when I was little had no need to be anything but well fed and secure in the best houses in town where they belonged to the best families. . . Their ancestors, buried in the Whittier cemetery or along the routes to California, had given up other homes just as solid, positions just as secure, to live their own lives as they saw fit, in a place where they could practice their beliefs unscorned. The settlement they named for their American poet would be theirs, and theirs it was when we came to it." Fisher's good friend Avis MacVicar DeVoto, [1904 - 1989] was perhaps best known for her friendship with Julia Child & lengthy correspondence tracing the evolution of Volume I of Mastering the Art of French Cooking from its inception to its publication.. Signed by Author. 1st Edition.

"Alles Gute Eure Erika". Siebdruck farbig.

1971. 50 x 65 cm, Minimal angeschmutzt Preis in CHF: 660. In seinen Arbeiten führt Dieter Glasmacher ( geb.
